At the toss, both teams got what they wanted. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Powerplay done and Afghanistan will be happy with the work their openers have done so far.
No wickets down and, after a tough start, they've upped the run-rate in the past couple of overs.

It would've been a stunner if he got hold of that. It was a very difficult chance, not an easy one. A great effort in the end.
Next ball and Ibrahim Zadran cuts up and over backward point.
Adam Zampa is at a wide deep third and runs around, dives and gets a hand to it.
It would have been a stunning grab but the ball bounces and goes for four.

That's not very good, is it? Especially if you're playing at a World Cup for Australia, you have to stop that, but that is a very good shot.
Back under way and Ibrahim Zadran pulls the ball out to deep square.
It should be stopped by Ashton Agar but somehow he lets it bounce through his hands for four.

It's been a very difficult surface so far, even the bounce is not very true because of the sponginess of the surface.
Given the surface, Afghanistan are in a really good position. This isn't a pitch where you're going to get 180, but if you can get 160, that could be a winning score.
Ouch.
Ibrahim Zadran aims a violent swings leg side but the ball from Pat Cummins jags back to beat the bat and hit the opener on the hip.
We've got a brief delay while Zadran receives treatment. Bring on the magic spray!
A rare loose delivery from Josh Hazlewood as he strays onto the pads.
That allows Ibrahim Zadran to just flick it down to fine leg for four.
Afghanistan's best over of the innings so far by some distance.

It's a brilliant strike, but what you do get with Hazlewood, because of the consistency, is the back of the length. You have to connect with it, but you know what you get with him.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz goes again!
Having been beaten by Josh Hazlewood the previous ball, the Afghanistan opener comes down the pitch and muscles this one over the leg side for six.

Brilliant strike. Cummins just got a bit fuller with that ball. Gurbaz just stepped away and went whack, straight for six.
Pat Cummins is into the attack and has the ball on a string from the off.
With the bounce and nip off the seam, Rahmanullah Gurbaz doesn't even want to play a shot in the first half of the over.
But after five dot balls, he's had enough... too full from Cummins and Gurbaz hammers it back over the bowler's head for six.

It is a steady start without blustering really. Ashton Agar has done really well with his pace, his changes are very effective and it makes him very hard to line up. He has varied it very well.
Already, it is clear that it is not going to be easy to bat on this surface.
Ibrahim Zadran punches through the covers for two get off the mark but those of the only runs from Ashton Agar's second over.
Turn, bounce and some seam movement. A batter might settle for dealing with one, maybe two of them, but all three? No thanks.

They'll definitely have an idea of what the pitch is doing before the game, but you have to be able to feedback live too, that is what makes a top-class performer.
Superb first over from Josh Hazlewood.
Plenty of bounce for the seamer and a bit of nip away off the surface to beat the edge last ball.
Four for Rahmanullah Gurbaz but it's very streaky!
Josh Hazlewood finds the inside edge as the Afghanistan opener plays on the back foot but the ball whistles past leg stump and down to the fine-leg boundary.

A real mix of deliveries from Ashton Agar, almost like left-arm seam. He got some big turn. It is baffling to want to bowl first on a turning pitch. In this World Cup, sides are opting to bowl first to learn how to bat on it.
When Ashton Agar does give the ball a little flight, there is definitely some turn.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is beaten going for a big drive, so is Matthew Wade and the ball runs away for four byes.
No runs off the bat in the first over. Five from it but technically a maiden for Agar.
