It feels like it has been too easy to score after lunch.

Saud in particular has taken so many singles on the off side, many of them in front of square. Neither of these players has hit a boundary in front of the square on the off side. Rehan Ahmed is turning the ball into the left-handers. Despite all of this, England are operating with a deep cover. I get that Rehan could drag one down, but even if he does, it won't get hit there.

  3. drinks break

England at least have a drinks break to regroup. What plans can they come up with?

Noman Ali has been down on his back doing some stretches.

That's the value of occupying the crease, getting used to the bounce, width, length then making the right shot.

Noman Ali is beaten on the outside edge but responds by heaving Rehan Ahmed down the ground for six.

That has delighted the crowd which is growing as Pakistan fight on.

WizViz has dropped to have England only favourites at 51% now as Pakistan continue to wrestle back some initiative.

It's been good stuff from Saud Shakeel and Noman Ali.

Saud Shakeel is such a valuable asset for Pakistan.

Close but not to be for England in that over. This partnership is now worth 38 - like a buzzing, irritating insect you can't get rid of from England's perspective.

  8. Not outpublished at 10:10 British Summer Time

It hit Noman Ali outside the line of off stump and would have missed too.

    A sign of the times?

  9. Postpublished at 10:09 British Summer Time

England have three reviews left but this looks optimistic.

  10. England reviewpublished at 10:09 British Summer Time

A change of ends for Shoaib Bashir and a review first ball!

It's Noman Ali on the sweep. It was given not out on the field.

Can England bat like Saud Shakeel?

No I don't think so, they're always trying to be aggressive and try to find quick runs.

Rehan Ahmed stands with his hands on his hips after Saud Shakeel and Noman Ali nudge him for singles throughout this comeback over.

The only real chance since lunch was that lbw shout and that was ruled out by a decent inside edge.

Saud Shakeel has played a great hand. He has played with soft hands but a great innings.

    Pakistan have been purposeful today.

They've been focused on the ball and not the situation, remained in the present moment instead of thinking about the conditions.

Ah. Here is Rehan Ahmed. Can he be the partnership-breaker again?

It's another maiden from Gus Atkinson - the second in this spell.

I'm trying to work out why Rehan Ahmed hasn't bowled since lunch. The best I can come up with is Shakeel's preference for spin rather than pace.

He averages 88 against spinners and 34 against pace bowlers.

Rehan Ahmed was really impressive. The googly he bowled to Aamer Jamal was perfect, textbook delivery.

  17. Postpublished at 10:02 British Summer Time

Still no sight of Rehan Ahmed in the attack after lunch. Gus Atkinson continues...

  18. Pak 206-7published at 69 overs

Sneaky from Soham, trying to tempt a wicket there. We see you.

Five singles come in this Shoaib Bashir over, however, and England need a bit of magic.

  19. How's stat?!published at 09:58 British Summer Time

    Soham Sarkhel
    CricViz analyst

Since the start of 2022, the last three wickets have averaged 20.1 runs per partnership against England.

That is the highest against any Test team in this period.

This partnership is worth around 24 runs now, time for a wicket?

England have changed to the short-ball ploy with Gus Atkinson continuing. It's going to take a lot of effort from Atkinson to get the ball to bouncer anywhere near the batters' heads, given his bowling on the equivalent on a sandpit.

Ollie Pope is there close sniffing a catch but there's nothing doing in this over.
