England are left needing something special to win this match and the series. Pakistan are right in command as they sense a memorable win.

First Saud Shakeel and then the spin twins have swung this game dramatically in the hosts favour.

Read all about a potentially decisive day in Stephan Shemilt's match report.

The best reaction and analysis is below. There also be another TMS podcast available shortly.

We'll be back early on Saturday to see if England can dig themselves out of this hole.

The Pakistan bowlers were getting more out of the surface, they were changing their pace. On this surface we've seen the slower balls are more effective.

The England bowlers did well but they didn't look threatening. I just think the Pakistan bowlers have adapted much faster than the England bowlers have.

More from Rehan Ahmed, speaking to Sky Sports: "Noman and Sajid did bat well. The ball did get softer, there wasn't as much off the pitch and once Sajid came in, hit a few sixes, they got momentum again.

"As a spin group, we tried to hold it as much as we could. Saud [Shakeel] batted very well, there's no shame in him batting well.

"We did what we could and now just looking forward to tomorrow."

I don't think Ben Stokes did enough to make Shakeel play in a different way. The gaps always seemed to be there and Shakeel took them.

  6. 'Momentum with Pakistan but we can still win'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 25 October

England spinner Rehan Ahmed, speaking to Sky Sports: "The momentum is obviously with them but we're not going to hold back from saying that we can still win the game.

"We've got a lot of batting to come, everyone can bat in our team. It's not nice having three down now but, while it changes things a little bit, it's not too much for us."

Batting on this pitch: "Everyone has their own way. Whatever your way is, you have to be clear with it and stick with it. That could change ball by ball or different sessions, bat in different ways.

"We'll have to adapt as quickly as possible."

Ollie Pope got a good ball today but the stats are not pretty. His series is done.

You assume he'll hang on until the New Zealand tour but the doubts are only growing about his place.

Since scoring 196 runs v India in the second innings in Hyderabad, Pope has cumulatively scored 173 runs in 13 innings in Tests in Asia at an average of 13.3 with 39 being his highest score.

The way Sajid and Noman bowled was different to England.

England varied their paces a bit but it was an over slow and an over quicker.

Pakistan seem to be varying their pace and alternating it each ball. It just seemed to be messing England's rhythm up.

It makes it hard to pick which shots to play.

Rehan Ahmed was the pick of England's bowlers. He took 4-66 on his comeback to the team.

There will be questions about England's tactics in the afternoon session.

They seemed to let the game drift, allowing too many singles and that allowed Saud Shakeel to drag Pakistan back into the game.

Had England's batters got out playing attacking strokes we would have said 'why are they doing that there are only 15 minutes to go?'.

I've got no problem with England protecting their pad, the three dismissals were defensive pushes.

I don't think I can fault the shots.

When this match does end, we may look back on Saud Shakeel's innings as the crucial hand.

He batted to his strengths, nudging and nurdling. The left-hander dug in for an innings many England fans would like to see their batters play.

Of his first 100 runs, 70 were singles.

His partnerships with Sajid Khan and Noman Ali allowed Pakistan to double their score from 177 when the seventh wicket fell to a position where they took a sizeable lead.

Pakistan have quite cleverly spread the field. England's first port of call tomorrow is to weather the storm. It's going to be imperative that they get through that initial burst. They need to try and match Pakistan's energy to try and stay in this game.

Love the new brand of England cricket, but the failure of our batsmen to adapt to conditions overseas has cost us over the last few tours.

There was nothing Bazball about England's struggles with the bat there.

Ben Duckett took on the bowling in one over but otherwise they largely looked to defend.

It was a familiar issue of England being unable to play spin in Asia.

I think Pakistan have played brilliantly.

Saud Shakeel went out there and played differently to everyone else, he played how he wanted to.

There's some serious damage that has been done there, there's a lot of pressure on England tomorrow.
