Summary

  1. Eng 162-4published at 28.3 overs

Jos Buttler's mind feels scrambled here, I can't lie to you all.

He missed a reverse sweep in the previous Noor Ahmad over, and he does so again, but this time it hits his pad.

There's an appeal for lbw but again it is not out. No review this time.

  2. Eng 160-4published at 28 overs

Jos Buttler works the final ball over mid-wicket for a couple.

It was a bit of a heave to be honest.

    There's your moment, Jos.

He has to make the most of that. His future as captain may depend on it.

    Ooh! Jos Buttler survives. Just.

It was just clipping the edge of leg stump.

There's no bat from Jos Buttler.

  7. Afghanistan reviewpublished at 27.5 overs

Has Jos Buttler been trapped lbw?

Mohammad Nabi was down on one knee appealing and wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz was on both knees begging and pleading for it.

There's a bit going on out there. Noor Ahmad was warned for running through onto the danger area of the pitch a few overs ago.

Joe Root has wandered down to prod at a similar area on the pitch a couple of times since.

The umpires are yet to step in again.

Jos Buttler is getting restless I think.

  10. Eng 153-4published at 27 overs

We're on dew watch. The TV coverage has just shown one of these buggy cameras that moves.

The tyres are a little wet but there's nothing substantial and nowhere near a spray of water.

The last boundary was more than six overs ago.

If these two are still there in 15 overs it will be game on.

  12. Eng 151-4published at 26 overs

    Target 326

Four singles from Rashid Khan's latest over.

The required run-rate is at 7.29 so it has climbed from the start of the innings but not substantially.

Joe Root has played brilliantly but he needs some support.

Half-century off 50 balls for Joe Root.

He's got to go deep, hasn't he?

    Thanks Ffion.

What are you all thinking then?

England aren't far off halfway through the runs required at the halfway point of the innings, but it those four wickets, isn't it?

Will they win? Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.

  16. Eng 147-4published at 25 overs

    Target 326

Halfway through England's innings, and Afghanistan are in control.

That is my cue to leave you with Callum Matthews, who will expertly guide you through to the conclusion.

For England, in this middle phase, they don't want to be picking up too many dot balls. Even if they can't find the boundary, they need to keep rotating the strike.

Here's how Afghanistan were gifted their fourth wicket, a tame one for Harry Brook.

  19. Eng 142-4published at 24 overs

    Target 326

Sensing the importance of this moment, with Jos Buttler early in his innings, Rashid Khan has the ball back in his hand.

Buttler and Root negotiate the threat calmly for now, working five from the over with minimal risk.

The problem with England is, they’re too lackadaisical. I get the whole “love what you do” thing about Bazball. But elite sport isn’t just about epic bantz. It’s supposed to be hard work. That’s why 99.9% of us can’t do it.
