England have to play so well to win from here.

  2. Eng 137-4published at 23 overs

    Target 326

Very good over from Noor Ahmad, just two from it.

England are comfortably ahead of where Afghanistan were at the same stage in terms of runs, it's just about whether they can keep wickets in hand to match the explosive finish that their opponents produced.

Jos Buttler needs to draw on all his experience here and all the talk about England's form and his captaincy.

He'll want a big partnership with Joe Root.

    Over to you, Jos.

Harry Brook had played nicely until then. It was as easy as you like for Mohammad Nabi.

    Brook c&b Nabi 25 (Eng 133-4)

Again, Afghanistan strike at a crucial time and again, it's a frustratingly soft dismissal.

From nowhere, Harry Brook just chips the ball straight back to the bowler for the simplest of catches.

It's a nothing delivery, just back of a length but Brook seemed in two minds about whether to block it or whack it. Afghanistan cannot believe their luck.

Liam Livingstone told us the other day he really started to notice the dew in England's defeat by Australia in his fifth over.

Livingstone's fifth over was the 25th of Australia's chase so if it's going to come it would be soon.

That does not help Afghanistan's cause. You do not want to be giving away freebies. England will take any of them, you've just got to dispatch them for four. Afghanistan's spinners have to be tighter.

  9. Eng 131-3published at 21 overs

    Target 326

Well, England will get there sooner rather than later if Afghanistan keep bowling like that.

Noor Ahmad offers Joe Root a filthy full toss that he simply helps on its way for four more.

The run-rate is fine for England, it is all about the wickets column now. That is going to be the problem for them as they progress.

Good recovery from Mohammad Nabi, just four runs from his over to drag back a bit of control.

England need 202 from 30 overs. That's definitely doable.

Very well played by Harry Brook. That's been firmly put away.

The runs are coming at a fast rate. It's the anxiety of, can England get over the line?

Rashid Khan got that big wicket of Ben Duckett but he's also been expensive and Afghanistan can't really afford that.

Harry Brook unveils one of the shots of the day to close the 19th over, a sumptuous drive past mid-off for his third boundary.

The one thing that's for sure is that the wicket is fantastic.

  16. Eng 110-3published at 18 overs

Perfect timing from Harry Brook to place the ball right between slip and backward point for another boundary, as he and Root take eight runs from Noor Ahmad's first over.

The middle overs will be a trial by spin for England.

Rashid Khan is cross with himself as he offers Harry Brook some width first ball, which the batter carves or four, but that is a huge over.
