  1. wicket

WICKET Jones lbw b Bailey 17published at 11:34 British Summer Time

    Worcs 180 & 40-4 v Lancs 177

Could we have a run chase here?

Rob Jones had looked as fluent as anyone out there in tricky conditions but is pinned high on the back pad by Tom Bailey.

He looks down for a moment before dragging himself off the pitch.

The ball is nibbling around as Brett D'Oliveira comes to the crease for his last bat of the season.

  2. 6 runs

Wharton hustles Yorkshire towards 450published at 11:32 British Summer Time

    Yorks 435-3 v Northants 147

    Shot!

James Wharton ends the 95th over in style with a swivel pull over square leg for six runs!

He's a hit away from a maiden double ton.

Yorkshire need 15 more for a fifth batting point.

  3. Highest first-class score for James Whartonpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time

    Yorks 429-3 v Northants 147

The floodlights are on. Very grey here - but no rain!

Nip and bounce for Jack White as Jonny Bairstow blocks.

He scrambles a leg bye off the next ball and James Wharton goes back and across to pull White in front of square for his record score!

Four more runs! 190 and counting.

  4. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 175-4

Sam Hain, on 74, turns Brett Hutton round the corner straight to a diving Lyndon James - was that a stop or a drop? No run.

This is just the fifth match of an injury-hit season for Hutton - frustrating after a wicket-laden 2023.

Hain ups the frustration as he drives a full ball straight down the ground for his ninth four. He moves to 78.

  5. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time

    Yorks 424-3 v Northants 147

Good line and length from Jack White and Jonny Bairstow is across to try to work the ball to leg. No run this time.

James Wharton pulls Justin Broad over square leg and the ball bounces safely in front of Saif Zaib at deep square.

Single to Bairstow, also at deep square.

Four runs off the back foot through point and Wharton is on 180.

His highest score at this level is 188.

Two more down the ground and Wharton rocks back and across for a pull through square for four more. 12 off the over.

  6. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time

    Worcs 180 & 35-3 v Lancs 177

After that flurry of boundaries, the Worcestershire batters have been tied down a little.

Rob Jones relieves the pressure with a flick through square leg for four off Tom Bailey.

Then a lovely drive down the ground gives Adam Hose a couple off Anderson Phillip to double his score.

  7. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 171-4

Ed Barnard battingImage source, Rex Features

Sam Hain and Ed Barnard will be happy to see the back of Jacob Duffy who takes a breather after a probing handful of overs this morning.

Lyndon James is the first change of the day and opens up with a no-ball.

Three singles and no danger. There is cloud cover, but the track looks good for batting.

  8. ouch!

Postpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time

    Essex 508-8 dec v Surrey 61-2

Dom Sibley has done his best to shake off the tag of being a somewhat conservative batter in recent years.

Nobody could accuse the Surrey opener of failing to take an attacking approach just now as he steps down the track to Jamie Porter and belts a half-volley hard back at the bowler, smacking him on the left ankle en route to the boundary rope.

To give him his due, Porter barely flinched - perhaps more annoyed at conceding four than anything else.

  9. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time

    Sussex 156-2 v Middlesex 271

Immaculate timing from Tom Alsop, who is forward to Ethan Bamber, steering the ball behind backward square for four.

Just a couple of runs off spinner Josh de Caires at the other end.

  10. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 164-4

Brett Hutton turns and lets loose a hearty lbw appeal as he pins Ed Barnard on the pads. Another appeal is ignored.

May have been going down leg.

All very quiet at Trent Bridge. Two singles from the over. Rinse and repeat.

The floodlights are on in Nottingham and umpires Jack Shantry and David Millns have already had the light meter out this morning.

  11. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time

    Yorks 411-3 v Northants 147

Shot! Full and width from Justin Broad and Jonny Bairstow laces the all through cover with a big flourish of the bat for four.

Four more driven firmly through cover point.

He misses with a flashing drive from the crease off the fourth ball and aborts a pull shot when Broad bowls down leg.

He drives again and gets an inside edge to mid wicket. No run there but the intent is crystal clear.

39 needed for maximum batting points.

  12. Leicestershire all outpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time

    Leicestershire 280 v Derbyshire 0-0

Derbyshire have taken the couple of wickets they needed to bowl Leicestershire out on this final morning.

Mitch Wagstaff and David Lloyd are in the middle for the visitors.

No sign of anything being set up for a chase in this rain-affected game at the moment.

  13. Sussex closing in on Division Two trophypublished at 11:10 British Summer Time

    Sussex 150-2 v Middlesex 271

Sussex pass 150 with a flick to fine leg by Tom Haines off the bowling of Ethan Bamber for a single.

Sussex are within 100 of a batting point and the Division Two title.

  14. wicket

WICKET Roderick run out (Williams) 14published at 11:08 British Summer Time

    Worcs 180 & 26-3 v Lancs 177

    Nice fielding, Will Williams!

Rob Jones drops into the offside off Anderson Phillip and immediately calls for a single.

Gareth Roderick sets off immediately, but Williams picks up quickly and an underarm throw runs out the Worcestershire opener by some distance.

Adam Hose walks to the crease.

  15. Fourth batting point for Yorkshirepublished at 11:08 British Summer Time

    Yorks 402-3 v Northants 147

Jonny Bairstow drops the first ball from Jack White into the on side but there's no run there.

He'll get runs off the third ball though, up on his toes to drive the ball through cover for four - and that's the fourth batting point.

One more point needed (450) and a target set at some stage after that to keep the Championship race with Sussex alive.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Majid c Benkenstein b Harmer 5published at 11:05 British Summer Time

    Essex 508-8 dec v Surrey 53-2

Simon Harmer celebrates wicketImage source, Rex Features

Nightwatchman Yousef Majid, making his Surrey debut, has played Simon Harmer pretty well up to now.

But he's on his way as the wily spinner floats one up and the ball fizzes off a leading edge to short cover, where Luc Benkenstein dives to grasp it.

Just another 18 wickets for Essex to capture if they're going to finish the season with a win against the champions...

  17. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time

    Yorks 398-3 v Northants 147

Justin Broad bowls a short ball to James Wharton, who sways out of the way.

The last ball of the over is clipped through mid wicket for four and the White Rose county are more than 250 in front, within a stroke of a fourth batting point.

  18. 50 runs

50 partnership for Hain and Barnardpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time

    Notts 487 v Warwickshire 156-4

Sam Hain clips into the legside for a single to move to 63 and take the fifth-wicket stand to fifty, off 128 balls.

No sign of any fireworks as hopes of setting up a final day chase dwindle.

  19. Postpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time

    Sussex 142-2 v Middlesex 271

Ethan Bamber nearly gets a ball through the bat and pad of Tom Alsop but no breakthrough for Middlesex yet.

Josh de Caires comes in for Tom Helm in the attack from the Sea End and his fourth ball is lofted over long on by Tom Haines for four runs, charging down the track.

  20. Boundaries flowing at New Roadpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time

    Worcs 180 & 25-2 v Lancs 177

After a dismal start, the Pears batters are beginning to find their feet.

A thick outside edge between third slip and backward point off Tom Bailey gives Gareth Roderick his first boundary.

Rob Jones then gets off the mark, clipping Anderson Phillip off his legs for four more.

The quick then bowls wide of off stump and Roderick slices down to the third man boundary.

Three balls later Rob Jones picks up his second boundary off Bailey.
