Bedingham hits four towards deep cover to round off morning session

More Alex Carey drama at Lord's?!

The ball gets stuck between David Bedingham's pads, and the Aussie keeper sprints towards him to try and grab it. It wouldn't have been out but Bedingham hurries to get the ball away from his grasp and drops it to the floor.

In between, David Bedingham whacks Webster for two delightful boundaries as South Africa end the session positively.

The Proteas are 91 runs behind Australia's first-innings 212, and Bedingham is unbeaten on 39.

Beau Webster will bowl the last over before lunch.

Just the one wicket for Australia in the session so far, that of Temba Bavuma. Considering the chaos of yesterday, you'd think South Africa would be pretty happy with that (if it stays that way).

It's alright Ffion, if we can not lose the Ashes before the fifth Test then they will technically only win that in 2026...

  5. SA 106-5published at 47 overs

A more productive over for South Africa, with a bit of help from a Beau Webster no-ball.

The Aussie all-rounder has a hoop earring in one ear. Don't see that fashion statement very often these days.

    Oh, I love those stories.

I played a university game once where we bowled a team out for three (I won't say who). Two of them were wides.

  7. No Balls - new podcast out now!published at 12:18 British Summer Time 12 June

If you're looking for the story behind the viral innings that had Richmond Cricket Club in the spotlight after being bowled out for 2 (yes, two!), chairman Chris Goldie talked exclusively to the No Balls podcast all about it this week.

Alex Hartley and Kate Cross also discuss Cross taking her 100 wicket in her 100th match against the West Indies, becoming the second fastest England woman to reach that milestone.

You can find it all on BBC Sounds or follow this link.

It's been hard work for South Africa to reach 100, it's taken them 45 overs to get there.

That two by David Bedingham broke a run of 18 dot balls and he had a run of 22 dot balls earlier in the innings.

He's usually a quick scorer. It's a disciplined and uncharacteristic innings from him so far.

  10. SA 100-5published at 45 overs

    Here's Beau Webster.

He's very tall, in case you didn't know. Three from the over and South Africa finally bring up their 100.

  11. SA 97-5published at 44 overs

I've been reminded that Australia didn't win the Champions Trophy.

I'm sure I'm not alone in forgetting about that.

Bavuma was clearly distracted by CrepeGate unfolding online leading to a mistimed shot.

South Africa haven't got to parity yet, but they've made significant strides this morning from a position of real jeopardy.

  14. SA 95-5published at 43 overs

When do I start to worry that my entire year is going to consist of working on Australia winning everything?

We had the 16-0 to start 2025, they could win this, they're undoubtedly favourites for the Women's World Cup, then we've got the men's Ashes...

Such a shame for Temba Bavuma.

He adjusted so well yesterday evening and was just starting to put Australia under pressure. Kyle Verreynne joins David Bedingham in the middle.

Marnus Labuschagne is so good in the field, he leapt to his right and took the catch at cover.

Temba Bavuma was trying to pierce the covers and that's a pity because this partnership has been fruitful.

    Great catch!

Temba Bavuma has played some exquisite drives over cover this morning but it eventually leads to his downfall. He times it perfectly off Pat Cummins, but Marnus Labuschagne pulls off a full-length dive and plucks the ball out of the air.

The South Africa skipper departs for 36 from 84 balls.
