I think India were desperate to get a wicket. It was a shout of desperation.

  2. Not outpublished at 7 overs

    NZ 52-0

    Good review from Rachin Ravindra.

Nothing on it so it's not out and also a wide.

Clearly Ravidra doesn't think he's nicked it down the legside, he's reviewed that instantly.

  4. New Zealand reviewpublished at 7.1 overs

India think they've got the breakthrough with a catch down the leg side as Rachin Ravindra loses his balance trying to sweep.

The umpire agrees but Ravindra reviews immediately.

Upstairs to third umpire Joel Wilson we go.

Something we noticed the other day is how Will Young just sits in the crease, knowing that they need to build that platform early on.

  6. 50 runs

    NZ 51-0published at 7 overs

Super shot from Will Young to end the over.

He picks up the length from Mohammed Shami and smartly shovels the ball through the leg side for four.

That brings up the fifty partnership.

Mohammed Shami isn't as keen as the other fast bowlers are to catch the return.

  8. Ravindra dropped on 28published at 6.3 overs

    NZ 47-0

    Media caption,

'That would have been a magnificent catch' - Shami drops powerful hit from Ravindra

Mohammed Shami puts down a sharp chance off his own bowling.

After missing with an attempted pull the ball before, Rachin Ravindra makes another slight misjudgement and chips a drive back towards Shami.

The bowler gets both hands up ready for the catch but the flicks off his fingertips and away for a single. His hands obstructed his view there.

We've got a brief delay as Shami calls for the physio to take a look at his left hand.

Taking the tournament as a whole if India win, it will be a hollow victory. If New Zealand win, it will be exceptional.

This has been a good start from New Zealand so far.

  11. NZ 46-0published at 6 overs

Better from Varun Chakravarthy after that poor first delivery.

Just four more come from the over with Rachin Ravindra - who has overtaken Ben Duckett to become the top run-scorer in the tournament - sweeping for two in between of a couple of singles.

I've spoken to a couple of people in the know about Varun Chakravarthy and the suggestion is he's much harder to face at night.

Under lights, with the glare on the ball and his quick action, it's apparently very hard to pick his variations.

  13. NZ 42-0published at 5 overs

Well, India have gone to spin early but the squeeze hasn't started just yet.

A loose delivery to start from Varun Chakravarthy and it darts down the leg side for five wides.

The thing with this Indian side is that the opening bowlers might do their thing but then he spinners come on, that's when the real squeeze will start.

Indian pacers will try to hit the conventional 6-8m length mark against Will Young. Against those deliveries he strikes at just 56 in his ODI career - his lowest among any lengths from pace.

  16. NZ 37-0published at 5 overs

Mohammed Shami switches to round the wicket and immediately squares up Rachin Ravindra.

He finds the edge but the ball not only goes to ground quickly but scuttles away through the vacant slip region for four more.

Another good over for New Zealand.

  17. NZ 31-0published at 4.2 overs

    Wow.

Rachin Ravindra is looking in great touch. On the pads from Mohammed Shami and he whips it dismissively through mid-wicket for four.

Though Mohammed Shami loves coming round the wicket to left-hand batters, he has started from over the wicket to Rachin Ravindra here. Ravindra averages 42 from round the wicket and 33 from over the wicket angle against right-arm pace.

That was easily the most productive over of the innings so far.

That over has just changed the momentum of the game for New Zealand, putting the pressure back on India. India had created decent pressure so far but New Zealand are just starting to give the counterpunch.
