    Young 8, Ravindra 16

Rachin Ravindra is warming to his task now.

He crunches the next ball through point for four and after another Hardik Pandya bouncer is called wide, Ravindra pulls the extra delivery off the front foot for four more.

Big over for New Zealand, 16 from it.

Rachin Ravindra's picked up a good length ball there, he's hit that very well. He's a fine player.

Ravindra smashes Hardik over deep mid-wicket for six

As if to show how little margin for error there is for the bowlers, Hardik Pandya drops one short and Rachin Ravindra effortlessly nails it over deep mid-wicket for six!

Brilliantly struck from the New Zealand left-hander. So cleanly hit and he made it look so simple.

What's happened here in previous games is that the ball has started to spin in the second innings. There's no grass out there at all.

It looks a good, flat pitch. New Zealand will be hoping that it slows down a bit as the days goes on.

  6. NZ 10-0published at 3 overs

Steady over all round with four coming from it.

Will Young works the ball off his pads for a couple but is beaten next ball by one that Mohammed Shami nips back.

There is a little bit there for the seamers with the new ball but it has been the discipline of the opening bowlers more than anything else that has kept the Black Caps quiet so far.

This going to be an exciting game as India have never lost an ODI in the venue but have never beaten New Zealand in an ICC final. They have met twice - in ICC KnockOut 2000 and World Test Championship 2021.

Rachin Ravindra is such an elegant player. I love the way he shifts through the gears. He's here today, big game, and he looks completely unfazed.

  9. NZ 6-0published at 2 overs

Hardik Pandya opens up from the other end for India and starts with a leg-side wide.

The seamer quickly adjusts and finds his line with just a single coming from the six legitimate deliveries in the over, Rachin Ravindra getting off the mark with a push to mid-off.

Having no Matt Henry is not only sad for New Zealand, but also for the game. He's been the leading wicket taker of the tournament.

New Zealand could probably get away with 270 on this surface but they are playing India, the best chasing team in the world.

I'm expecting a better game than what we saw in the group stages between these two.

  12. NZ 4-0published at 1 over

    Slapped through point for four.

After five dot balls from Mohammed Shami, he offers a bit of width to end the over.

Will Young isn't missing out and drives confidently through point for the first runs of the innings.

It does feel a little bit humid here today, the ball is swinging.

  14. NZ 0-0published at 0.1 overs

    Beauty.

Brilliant start from Mohammed Shami as he gets the ball to shape away from Will Young.

The batter presses forward and the ball snakes past the outside edge.

Here we go then. Mohammed Shami is at the top of his mark ready to bowl the first ball of this final.

Will Young is on strike for New Zealand.

Yep, if Dubai wasn't a home from home for India already, having played all their matches in this tournament there, the crowd looks to be overwhelming in their favour as well...

You will not be surprised to hear the crowd is dominated by India fans. The first started arriving long before the India team did.

Tickets only went on sale on Tuesday after the conclusion of India's semi-final win, which confirmed the match would be here and not in Lahore.

The DJ has been revving the crowd up as ever. Should be a loud one.

Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli, along with Joe Root, are the best 50-over players in the world at the minute. In the role they do they are so good to watch. That number three or four spot, the glue which holds the team together.

Everyone thinks they are nudgers and nurdlers but they score at over a 100 strike rate. More often than not it's effortless. You see other people get their strike rate up above a run a ball and it looks a real effort. Those guys rotate the strike brilliantly against spin and always have an 'out' shot, an area of the field they can penetrate for a boundary.

They might not hit the big sixes you see from other players but all three of them can clear the ropes. It's not like they are an eight-year-old playing U15 cricket. They play the game at their own pace and I just love watching them. I just think they are class.

India have never lost an ODI in the 10 matches they have played at Dubai.

They have won nine games and tied one (against Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2018).

Very odd. But pictures taken, the players are out, the anthems are done and we are just a few minutes away from the first ball going down in this final.
