Please see my previous post. Same again from Alzarri Joseph. Same again from Ben Stokes.

  2. Eng 28-0published at 2.2 overs

Dropped a tad short and right into Ben Stokes's arc. Pulled along the ground for four.

England going at 11.5 runs per over. Anyone know what their best Powerplay score in Test history is?!

Stokes is on a mission. Standing there and delivering the ball to the boundary. It's a little like the start of a T20 or one-day international, the powerplay overs.

  5. Eng 21-0published at 1.4 overs

Slap. Stokes finds the boundary...again. This time he stands still, rises up on his toes and hits Seales to the ropes at cover.

  6. Eng 17-0published at 1.2 overs

LOL. Couple of steps towards Seales and bang. Over extra cover. Beautiful from Stokes.

Jayden Seales around the wicket to Duckett.

  8. Eng 12-0published at 1 over

Three boundaries in the over. Stokes followed his opening boundary with another flicked into the leg-side. Then came four byes. When it rains etc.

  9. Eng 4-0published at 0.3 overs

Who had three balls? Anyone? Well, you were right - Stokes crashes the first boundary of the chase emphatically through point.

Anyway, Alzarri Jospeh has new ball in hand. Ben Stokes is ready to face. England need 82 to win.

51 minutes until the scheduled Tea.

Yes, Ben Stokes has opened in a Test. He made 78* in the 2nd innings at Old Trafford back in 2020 against Pakistan.

  12. Postpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 28 July

Right. Who is going to open for England? Ben Stokes, of course. I'm a big fan of this. He's opened in he IPL, right? And did it once in a Test before I think?

What a spell from Mark Wood - a golden spell. Fast bowling, full of length mostly, with the odd short ball just to keep them honest and make them wary.

It's been a spell binding piece of bowling.

    It's not over...but it's almost over.

Thanks Tim. I've seen worse spells.

That was pretty spectacular. Yes, it was the West Indies tail but even so. That will have confirmed what the various newspapers will be using for their colour pieces tonight!

Right, my colleague Sam Dalling is on hand to talk you things through from here.

What did you make of that Mark Wood spell, Sam?

Since lunch, Mark Wood has taken 5-9 in six overs. It is the first time in his Test career that he has taken five wickets in a single spell.

    WICKETpublished at 52 overs

    S Joseph c Brook b Wood 4 (WI 175 all out)

Five wickets for Mark Wood in no time at all!

It's another delivery on an awkward length from Mark Wood which Shamar Joseph thinks is angling into his stumps and is drawn to playing at.

A thick edge takes it between first and second slip and Harry Brook dives to his right to snaffle it.

He softened him up with the short ball that hit Seales, then full in length, very quick, and Seales missed it. After that the cartwheel began!

Jayden Seales is not good enough to get anything on that delivery. The spectacular sight of a cartwheeling stump marks the end of his brief stay! Mark Wood has really been a thorn in the flesh of the West Indies. He just hasn't gotten his reward...until now.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 51.4 overs

    Seales b Wood 0 (WI 171-9)

Stumps out the ground. This time it's Jayden Seales' off stump which is sent cartwheeling after he too is done for pace by Mark Wood.

"Cheerio, cheerio, cherrio" bellow the fans in the Eric Hollies Stand.
