It looked like it was coming in and I'm sure Hodge was guarding against that. But it just held it's line. This is a very satisfying little spell from Mark Wood.

    Hodge c Smith b Wood 55 (WI 171-8)

Kavem Hodge defends prods at a full-ish ball from Mark Wood. The West Indies batter probably has to play at it, but he's ever so slightly late on the shot.

There's a lovely click as it takes a nice juicy edge and goes through to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith who throws the ball up in delight after gobbling up the catch.

Test match cricket, under lights? In England?!

Yes, it really did happen. I ventured to the cricket museum at Edgbaston this morning and spotted among the exhibits these two balls from a match between England and West Indies played at the ground seven years ago.

However, it's an experiment that was never repeated, and nor is likely to be again.

If you fancy a trip down memory lane, you can ready my colleague Stephan Shemilt's colourful piece on the whole shebang here...

  5. WI 169-7published at 50 overs

    Lead by 75 runs

The left-handed Gudakesh Motie has read everything pretty well so far. He ducks out of the way of Mark Wood bouncer, having earlier left well outside his off stump.

Motie finishes the over by dabbing Wood down to third for a single to keep the strike.

  7. WI 168-7published at 49 overs

Gus Atkinson continues to ask questions from the Birmingham End with some challenging lengths for Gudakesh Motie.

The West Indies batter edges his first ball through gully to pick up a fortuitous four, then ducks out the way of a bumper from the next one.

Mark Wood may just be atoning for his chronic unluckiness!

  9. WI 163-7published at 48 overs

Fans in the Eric Hollies stand roar as Mark Wood steams in for the final ball of the over to new batter Gudakesh Motie, but he is able to fend another full ball into the leg side for a single.

The two bouncers the balls before ensured that Alzarri Joseph's feet were no where near the pitch of the ball. That meant there was a huge gap and the middle stump ended up somewhere near Jamie Smith. Mark Wood is getting his reward late in this series.

A spectacular dismissal - that stump is several yards back from the pitch!

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 47.5 overs

    Joseph b Wood 2 (WI 162-7)

Alzarri Joseph is not chuckling for long, though.

A couple of balls later and his middle stump is sent flying out of the ground by a rasping full ball from Mark Wood.

This could unravel pretty quickly for the West Indies now you sense.

  13. Joseph not outpublished at 47.1 overs

Yes, there's quite a bit of bat on that in fact. Alzarri Joseph chuckles.

I think that is really close if he hasn't hit that!

  17. England reviewpublished at 47.1 overs

This looks a bit speculative from Ben Stokes as Alzarri Joseph is struck on the pad by Mark Wood. Height looks an issue for starters.

This might be the moment that Mark Wood's luck changes in this series. The ball has started reverse swinging. Things might start happening very quickly here, especially while this ball is moving laterally.

Mark Wood was bowling to a clear plan and got his reward.

A change at the Birmingham End as Gus Atkinson returns. He immediately beats the outside edge of Alzarri Joseph's bat.

I wonder if Da Silva was thinking about the short ball? He would have been thinking "he must bowl one soon".

That was the perfect line, the perfect length and had just a little bit of drift.

Non-striker Hodge immediately turned to the Hollies Stand. When you look up and see your partner not even looking at you, you know it's time to go.
