    Warwks v Hants 17-0

Oliver Hannon-Dalby angles the ball into Fletcha Middleton, who punches the ball through wide mid on for four runs.

Much better stroke after driving one over first slip earlier this morning.

Chris Woakes finds the edge of Tony Albert's bat, but the Hampshire opener waits in the crease, playing with soft hands to guide the ball safely wide of the slips for four.

He gets a single off the next delivery and Fletcha Middleton drives the fourth ball of the over down the ground for four.

  2. Dropped catchpublished at 11:17 23 June

    Kent 22-0 v Lancashire

Huge chance on the ground for the Red Rose in this Division One relegation tussle.

Marcus O'Riordan edges Will Williams to first slip but George Bell can't hold on.

If we're kind, he might have been put off by movement from wicketkeeper Matty Hurst.

  3. Postpublished at 11:13 23 June

    Essex v Durham 8-0

Early escape for Durham opener Alex Lees, who gets an unwanted edge on a fine Jamie Porter delivery but, to the batter's relief, it flies over the slip corden for four.

  4. 'There was a buzz when the crowd knew Woakes was playing'published at 11:13 23 June

    Warwks v Hants 4-0

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

There was a bit of a buzz around when people realised that Chris Woakes was available to play.

  5. Postpublished at 11:12 23 June

    Notts 3-0 v Somerset

Three slips in for acting captain Craig Overton, who bowls wide of off stump to Ben Slater.

The fourth ball is much straighter and pushed defensively into cover.

A reminder that Lewis Gregory is not in the team for this game, due to a groin injury. Ouch.

  6. Postpublished at 11:12 23 June

    Worcs v Surrey 5-1

    Orthodox, but effective.

Tom Taylor's first ball of a new over is right in the slot and easy as you like, Ollie Pope strokes it away through extra cover for four.

By the way, Shoaib Bashir isn't the only loanee playing for Worcestershire in this game. Essex's Ben Allison is also in the side and sent down a maiden to Dom Sibley in the previous over.

    James AndersonImage source, Rex Features

James Anderson has made the journey to Canterbury with his Lancashire team-mates - he's at the ground, took part in the warm-ups and was bowling in the middle but he's not playing this week.

It means he only has one more chance to play before his final Test match appearance - that opportunity comes next week when Lancashire welcome Nottinghamshire to Southport & Birkdale Cricket Club.

But will he want to play? Of course there is always a possibility of picking up an injury, he's got one last hurrah with England, does he want to bowl before Lord's or make sure he's fit for his final game of his magnificent career?

Meanwhile, Kent opener Ben Compton has made a very quick start, with 13 off nine balls.

  8. Postpublished at 11:08 23 June

    Warwks v Hants 4-0

Close call for Fletcha Middleton, who drives and edges Oliver Hannon-Dalby over a diving Jacob Bethell at first slip for four.

Certainly some pace and carry on this surface.

  9. Notts batting at Trent Bridgepublished at 11:06 23 June

    Notts 1-0 v Somerset

Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed will face the first ball, bowled by acting Somerset captain Craig Overton.

He starts with a maiden over with good pace and carry outside off stump.

Jake Ball will share the new ball with Overton, bowling to Ben Slater who scrambles a leg bye first ball.

    Middx 0-1 v Derbys

    Sam RobsonImage source, Rex Features

We also have our first wicket in Division Two.

Sam Robson is lured into attempting to drive a wide ball from Zak Chappell and Anuj Dal takes a superb catch diving to his left at gully.

Robson made 136 in his previous Championship innings on the same ground. Cricket can be cruel.

  11. WICKET Burns c Bashir b Taylor 0published at 11:02 23 June

    Worcs v Surrey 0-1

    Well, well, well.

Tom Taylor takes the new ball for Worcestershire and Rory Burns obligingly chips his third delivery into Shoaib Bashir's hands at mid-wicket.

Burns can't believe it and Ollie Pope comes to the crease at three a lot earlier than he might have been expecting.

  12. Hampshire begin their innings at Edgbastonpublished at 11:01 23 June

    Warwks v Hants 0-0

Just the one change for this Hampshire team with Abbas in the side for Michael Neser.

Tony Albert is opening with Fletcha Middleton and starts by leaving Chris Woakes outside the line of off stump.

Right then, the formalities are complete - just like the latest series of Dr Who. Time for some cricket.

*'Time' isn't some sort of feeble Dr Who joke - just a happy accident.

  16. Will Bashir bamboozle Surrey?published at 10:54 23 June

Worcestershire v Surrey (play starts 11:00)

    Shoaib BashirImage source, Rex Features

They've had four weeks to think about it, so how will Division One leaders Surrey respond to their innings-and-278-runs thrashing by Hampshire in their most recent Championship game?

They had too much all-round quality for Worcestershire when the two sides met at The Oval in May, winning by 281 runs as paceman Dan Worrall produced brilliant match figures of 10-57.

The Pears should be more competitive on home soil and will have England spin bowler Shoaib Bashir in their side as part of a loan deal.

He took two wickets in three Championship games for Somerset in April and will be hoping conditions at New Road will be more spin-friendly.

  17. No Anderson for Lancashirepublished at 10:52 23 June

Kent v Lancashire (play starts 11:00)

There were hopes that James Anderson might be in the Lancashire team at the Spitfire Ground as he prepares for his final Test match appearance for England early next month.

But the venerable pace bowler was not in the squad named by head coach Dale Benkenstein on Sunday, which is a shame - maybe he'll be involved against Notts at Southport next weekend.

There is no Zak Crawley in the Kent side nor Aussie pace bowler Wes Agar, who has gone home because of a shoulder injury.

The teams have identical W1 D3 L3 records, and both are badly in need of another win to boost their prospects of avoiding relegation.

  18. 100th Warwickshire game for Woakes at Edgbastonpublished at 10:50 23 June

    Warwks v Hants

Chris Woakes does indeed feature for the Bears for the 100th time in first class cricket to strengthen a bowling attack that includes Ed Barnard, Danny Briggs, Craig Miles and Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

The Hampshire batting looks strong with Nick Gubbins, Tony Albert and Ben Brown all in the XI and all century makers in the win against Surrey in the last Championship game.

There's no Michael Neser in the attack though, which is comprised of James Fuller, Keith Barker, Kyle Abbott and Muhammad Abbas.

  19. Tykes hope change of scene will bring first winpublished at 10:49 23 June

Yorkshire v Gloucestershire (play starts 11:00)

There has been exciting World T20 action in Barbados - but today the focus is on Scarbados as Yorkshire make their first visit of the summer to their seaside outground.

The White Rose are seventh in Division Two, have yet to win a Championship match this summer, and are going to need some big performances in seven remaining games if they are to close a 24-point gap to the promotion places.

Alas, Joe Root is not in their squad for this game, so there will be no repeat of his 160 at Scarborough against Sussex 13 summers ago.

  20. Woakes reaches Bears milestonepublished at 10:47 23 June

Warwicks v Hampshire (paly starts 11:00)

    Chris WoakesImage source, Getty Images

Warwickshire have more than their fair share of injuries among their seam bowlers in the past couple of seasons.

It is great news, therefore, that England's Chris Woakes is back in business after time off following the death of his father and ready to play his first Championship game of the season - and 100th in first-class cricket for the Bears.

Woakes took 10 wickets in three Championship appearances last year and will be hoping to remind the England selectors of what he can do with Tests against West Indies coming up next month.
