  1. Pears hope for breakthroughpublished at 13:44 23 June

    Worcs v Surrey 105-2

Ben Allison will take up the attack for Worcestershire at New Road after a fine spell of 0-10 from seven overs this morning.

After a single for Jamie Smith, he finds the edge of Dom Sibley's bat but the ball does not carry to Rob Jones, stationed at second slip.

  2. Play resumes at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:42 23 June

    Notts 111-3 v Somerset

Somerset took two wickets in two balls before the break, removing Ben Slater and Will Young to leave Notts on 71-3.

But since then Notts have looked largely untroubled, scoring at four runs an over.

Joe Clarke returns to the middle unbeaten on 15 at the non-striker's end.

Jack Haynes (23 not out) will face Jake Ball.

  3. Afternoon session begins at Edgbastonpublished at 13:41 23 June

    Warwks v Hants 104-1

Hampshire begin this session in the ascendancy but it might have been a different story had Sam Hain held on to a chance at slip when Nick Gubbins miscued a cut on 28.

Gubbins will face Chris Woakes on 38 not out.

Fletcha Middleton is 60 not out.

  6. 'An even opening session at Trent Bridge'published at 13:23 23 June

    Notts 111-3 v Somerset - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

An even opening session at Trent Bridge, although Somerset would have enjoyed their lunch a little better had Tom Abell not grassed a simple chance at first slip, off Jack Haynes, just before the interval.

Haynes is on 23 and has added 40 so far with Joe Clarke, who made an unbeaten double-hundred when the sides met at Taunton.

The wickets of Slater (to Craig Overton) and Young (to Kasey Aldridge) from consecutive deliveries dragged the visitors back on terms after the hosts had romped to 70-1.

  7. 'Gay and Proctor have steadied the innings'published at 13:21 23 June

    Glamorgan v Northants 101-2 - lunch

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Emilio Gay and Luke Procter have steadied the innings for the visitors on an overcast morning here at Sophia Gardens.

Procter's decision to bat first appeared questionable as James Harris nipped out Ricardo Vasconcelos and Prithvi Shaw with just 19 on the board.

But Gay led the way with an unbeaten 58, passing 700 Championship runs for the season, to steer his side to 101 for two at lunch.

Shaw is one of two Northamptonshire first-class debutants, along with 22-year-old all-rounder Gus Miller - the first Augustus to play for the County since 1892*.

*Congratulations, Andrew, that will surely be our fact of the day.

    Essex v Durham 144-2 - lunch

Essex's South African debutant Eathan Bosch has taken both wickets to fall on day one at Chelmsford.

The first was Michael Jones - he is playing in his first Championship game of the season, having just returned from the World Cup with Scotland.

Jones was on 38 when he edged Bosch to the keeper. It ended an aggressive innings in which he'd hit Simon Harmer out of the ground twice, while scoring four fours as well.

Scott Borthwick was the second wicket. The Durham skipper chased after a ball he should have left well alone. It would have been a one-day wide but he got a bottom edge to the keeper.

Alex Lees has moved onto 50 since then though and David Bedingham, having passed 800 championship runs in the season today, is on 49.

It's a hot day in Chelmsford, where Durham have recorded only one win. That was on their first visit in 1993.

  10. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 13:16 23 June

    Middlesex 86-2 v Derbyshire

Just a couple of singles off the final over of the morning as Middlesex try to steady their ship after an uncertain start.

The day began badly for the home side with Sam Robson dismissed in the first over by Zak Chappell without scoring.

Mark Stoneman and Max Holden put on 67 before the former edged to the keeper, but Leus du Plooy kept Holden company for the last 10 overs of the session.

  11. Lunch at Scarboroughpublished at 13:13 23 June

    Yorkshire 106-0 v Gloucestershire

Smooth seaside progress for Yorkshire at Scarborough as Gloucestershire's decision to field first fails to pay off during the opening morning.

Adam Lyth has again demonstrated excellent shot selection to reach 64 not out from 104 balls and partner Finlay Bean has 31.

Joe Root isn't in the Yorkshire team for this one, but the crowd won't care if they continue to dominate the day's proceedings.

  12. Lunch at Sophia Gardenspublished at 13:09 23 June

    Glamorgan v Northamptonshire 101-2

Emilio Gay's memorable season continues with another half-century after passing 700 Championship runs early in his innings at Sophia Gardens.

Gay has 58 not out from 88 balls and has added 82 w2ith Luke Procter since Indian signing Prithvi Shaw fell for two in the sixth over.

James Harris has taken both wickets to fall but it could hard work for Glamorgan this afternoon in excellent batting conditions.

  13. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:07 23 June

    Sussex 84-3 v Leicestershire

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Honours about even at a cloudy Hove although having at one stage been 34-3, Sussex have recovered well after being asked to bat first

The reassuring figure of John Simpson has led the recovery, and together with Ollie Carter - who opened the batting in place of injured Daniel Hughes - has added add an unbroken 50 stand.

Leicestershire will perhaps feel they should have made more of the overhead conditions, with Ian Holland their stand out bowler, taking all three wickets.

  14. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:06 23 June

    Kent 102-2 v Lancashire

Reason for both sides to be pleased in the Garden of England.

Lancashire, who have left out Jimmy Anderson despite the England bowler travelling with the squad, picked up two quickfire wickets around midday.

But Kent opener Ben Compton and Joey Evison have led a tidy and patient rebuild from 44-2, putting on 58 to take the hosts past the 100 mark.

Opening-day supremacy very much in the balance and up for grabs.

  15. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:06 23 June

    Notts 111-3 v Somerset

Four runs come off the final over before the break, bowled by Craig Overton.

Joe Clarke drives crisply through cover to move to 15 while his batting partner Jack Haynes is unbeaten on 23.

Somerset will be a bit worried about the rate of scoring on what appears to be a sluggish pitch but will take some comfort from their double strike, removing Ben Slater and Will Young with successive deliveries to leave the hosts on 71-3.

  16. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:03 23 June

    Worcestershire v Surrey 105-2

Acting Worcestershire captain Jake Libby gives himself the final over before lunch at New Road.

There are four singles from it as Surrey reach lunch in a healthy position, having been 29-2 after 10 overs.

Rory Burns fell to the third ball of the day and Ollie Pope surrendered his wicket with a rush of blood - but Dom Sibley and Jamie Smith have batted with good judgment to add 76 in tandem so far.

Opener Sibley is 43 not out and Smith has 42 from 56 balls, with 15 boundaries between them.

  17. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:03 23 June

    Warwks v Hants 104-1

An otherwise tidy off stump line in the Will Rhodes over ends with a leg side ball back of a length, nudged behind square by Fletcha Middleton for one.

With left arm spinner Danny Briggs bowling at the other end, we may squeeze a couple more overs in here.

Maybe not. Warwickshire want the ball to be changed but the umpires say no.

Briggs flights the ball up to Nick Gubbins who drives through cover for four.

That's the Hampshire 100 in the 30th over.

Briggs bowls full and Gubbins drives for one more run.

Hampshire's session after winning the toss. Warwickshire will rue that missed chance in the slips when Gubbins was on 28.

He's unbeaten on 38 and Fletcha Middleton has 60.

  18. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:02 23 June

    Essex v Durham 144-2

Durham have been very positive in their approach at Chelmsford.

Michael Jones hit a rapid 38 while Alex Lees and David Bedingham have since fashioned a 50 partnership to continue the momentum.

Indeed, big-hitting Bedingham has almost caught his colleague up - he's on 49 at lunch, with Lees on 50.

For Essex, South African Eathan Bosch has taken the two wickets to fall - on his debut for the club.

  19. 100 partnership for Yorkshirepublished at 12:58 23 June

    Yorks 100-0 v Gloucs

Let's hope the windows around North Marine Road are double glazed.

Finlay Bean gives them a test with a huge six over long-on off spinner Ed Middleton.

A couple of maidens follow before Adam Lyth drives Dom Goodman for four to bring up a century partnership.

  20. Postpublished at 12:56 23 June

    Worcs v Surrey 96-2

Jamie Smith is looking in confident mood for Surrey.

Two successive fours through the covers off Adam Finch and he joins partner Dom Sibley on 36 not out.

There's another to end the over, past fielder Kashif Ali's left hand. It costs Finch 12 and Smith now has 40 from 51 balls.
