Alas, no, Andy. You are most likely mixing me up with my ex-Sky Sports namesake. You're not the first and certainly will not be the last.

  5. Bethell survivespublished at 9.2 overs

The TV replays show the ball perhaps brushed Jacob Bethell's sweat band, but there's no glove involved.

    He survives.

Now then, Tom Blundell celebrate a caught behind after Jacob Bethell hooked at a short-pitched delivery from Will O'Rourke.

Testament to England's approach here that Tom Latham has decided to dispense with fielders in catching positions behind the bat, leaving namesake Blundell as a rather lonely figure behind the stumps.

Joe Root and Jacob Bethell refuse to take the bait, and dab the ball into the gaps and milk singles instead.

I suspect they will stick with Crawley. He's had a leaner time this year compared to last, and NZ in particular seem to be a bit of a bogey team for him, but he absolutely dominated Australia in the Ashes last year. He's proven he can hack it when the chips are down, and hasn't done badly enough yet to forfeit his place for me.

    Theo, London

People are so quick to replace Crawley as opener and have clearly forgotten how hard it was to replace Andrew Strauss and find a stable opening partnership.

Any sense Joe Root might slow down this the run-rate are quickly kicked into touch, as he picks up three consecutive fours off Will O'Rourke.

England's all-time leading run-scorer edges through slips, biffs through the covers and then pulls through mid-wicket.

An entertaining cameo from Ben Duckett comes to an end.

He backs away to Will Rourke to give himself room, perhaps anticipating a different delivery, and upper cuts it down to third where Matt Henry pouches the catch.

A bonkers knock from the diminutive left-handed opener.

  13. Eng 55-1published at 7 overs

Jacob Bethell, sun cream smeared right across his nose, is in blistering touch here and doing his best, Dave.

He powerfully whips Nathan Smith across the line again for four, then drills it clinically down the ground for another.

Stand and deliver from Jacob Bethell.

He slaps Nathan Smith's first ball for four down the ground, then powerfully whips his second through mid-wicket for another next ball.

England want to get this done.

Since 1 December 2022, Ben Duckett has the highest attacking shot percentage (57%) in Tests (min 500 runs scored).

By comparison, Travis Head, who is considered as the high intent batter in all formats recently, has 51% attacking shots in this period.

  18. Eng 39-1published at 6 overs

Drilled by Jacob Bethell, as he gets in on the action. The youngster crisply smacks the first ball of Matt Henry's third over straight down the ground for four.

The rest of the over is more sedate by comparison as Bethell and Ben Duckett add another four runs in singles.

That's gotta be that for Crawley. One 200+ score for 9 sub-20 and we're pretending he's passable. See what someone like Banton or Smeed are up to. Similar logic to Duckett.

Zak Crawley is lucky England have so few options for openers. For all the talk of shoe-ins for the Ashes, surely he'll only be batting down under if no one better comes through.

  20. Eng 31-1published at 5 overs

Another boundary for Ben Duckett, as he wallops the final ball of Tim Southee's across the line for four. The England opener must have a tee time booked for later this afternoon.
