A horrible middle order collapse by England but you have to give full credit to Varun Chakravarthy, who seems to have more mysteries in his spin than an episode of Scooby Doo.

From 83-1 in the ninth to 147-9 in the 18th - that's the story of England's innings.

Eight wickets lost for 60 runs, seven them to spinners with Hardik claiming the eighth.

Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-24 with his leg-spin.

Ben Duckett made 51, Liam Livingstone 43 and Jos Buttler 24, but the remainder of top nine already made singles figures before Mark Wood and Adil Rashid added 10 apiece.

Jos Buttler as a captain must be on the world's thinnest ice.

  4. Eng 171-9published at 20 overs

Wood smacks the ball to long-on and sets off.

The throw from the boundary strikes him on the leg as he comes back for the second.

Hardik closes with figures of 2-33, while England finish on 171-9 - not enough, you'd suspect.

  5. Eng 169-9published at 19.5 overs

Wood walks across his stumps to flick the ball to mid-wicket.

Hardik then sends down an off side wide from his final delivery and Rashid hurries through an extra run.

    Still one ball to go.

  6. Eng 166-9published at 19.4 overs

Two more singles - Wood chops the third ball of the over to square, then Rashid just about manages to get on top of a bouncer to whack it to mid-on.

  7. Eng 164-9published at 19.2 overs

    Hardik to finish.

England hustle through a couple of singles - a direct hit might have seen Mark Wood run-out at the striker's end off the second of those.

  8. Eng 162-9published at 19 overs

Ooof, Adil Rashid has to get out of the way as Shami sends down a chest-high full toss.

England's final pair run-up a few, but can't find the ropes again in the over - 13 from it.

  9. Eng 155-9published at 18.1 overs

    Oh, that's cute.

Adil Rashid opens the face to dab the returning Mohammed Shami through an empty cordon for four.

  10. Eng 151-9published at 18 overs

Mark Wood is the last man out of the hutch for England.

He and Rashid work Hardik around for a trio of singles, bringing up England's 150 with the second of those.

That teeny edge behind from Buttler which only Samson fancied was out seems to have been the turning point for India. All downhill for England from then.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.1 overs

    Livingstone c Jurel b Hardik 43 (Eng 147-9)

    The switch to seam works!

First sight of pace since the fourth over as Hardik returns - his first ball is a harsh wide, but he bags Livingstone with the following delivery.

The Lancashire batter goes for another big heave and finds Dhruv Jurel at long-on.

England's innings almost done - they were 83-1 in the ninth over.

This is the eighth time a bowler has taken a five-wicket haul against England in T20 Internationals.

Three of eight bowlers have been Indian spinners:

    Yuzvendra Chahal - 6-25 in Bangalore, 2017

    Kuldeep Yadav - 5-24 in Manchester, 2018

    Varun Chakravarthy - 5-24, today

A single into the covers takes Livingstone to 43 from 23.

Adil Rashid blocks out the final ball of the over to leave Livingstone on strike for the next one.

Meanwhile Ravi Bishnoi is now finished with figures of 1-46 from his 24 deliveries, with 19 of those runs coming off Livingstone's bat in the spinner's last over.

  16. Eng 145-8published at 16.4 overs

To quote the great sports commentator A. Partridge - "And another!"

Livingstone gets a third six over the over, heaving Bishnoi over square.

  17. 6 runs

    Eng 139-8published at 16.2 overs

    All on Liam Livingstone then?

He smokes Ravi Bishnoi for consecutive sixes over mid-wicket.

    Big, big hits.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16 overs

    Archer b Chakravarthy 0 (Eng 127-8)

    And now a fifth!

Jofra Archer lasts two balls, well-beaten by the first and bowled by the second.

A five-fer from Varun Chakravarthy, picking up the crucial wicket with the final ball of his spell - he finishes with figures of 5-24.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.4 overs

    Carse c Tilak b Chakravarthy 3 (Eng 127-7)

    Varun Chakravarthy has his fourth!

Brydon Carse drops to a knee, trying to lift the ball high over square but finds Tilak Varma, who runs a few steps to take the catch.
