Although England have been in a spot of bother, Brook's excellent run in New Zealand continues.

He has an average of 78.4 in New Zealand across all the three formats, the highest for him in any country where he has played a minimum of three matches.

  2. Eng 167-9published at 31 overs

Luke Wood is the new batter for England. Harry Brook leaves him two balls of Mitchell Santner's over to survive.

A stout defensive prod followed by a leave outside off stump.

Brook has 86 off 77 balls. Suspect he will try to whack a few now.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 30 overs

    Rashid c Bracewell b Duffy 4 (Eng 166-9)

Jacob Duffy bounces it wide and Adil Rashid has a wild slash at it...but it's a fresh-air shot.

Next ball, and Duffy has hit man, though, with a rather tame dismissal.

Rashid attempts to work Duffy to the leg side but is through the shot a way too early and ends up chipping it to Michael Bracewell at short mid-wicket.

  4. Eng 164-8published at 29 overs

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner, back straight and with a high release point, whirls away round the wicket with his left-arm spin.

Adil Rashid and Harry Brook content to nudge and nurdle singles initially. Rashid chases a loopy wide one and edges it but no real chance for Tom Latham.

Harry Brook has been excellent against all the pace lengths so far:

    • Yorker - 0 (1)
    • Full toss - 4 (1)
    • Full - 20 (12)
    • Good - 20 (26)
    • Hard - 15 (11)
    • Bouncer - 8 (6)

    Eng 161-8published at 28 overs

Jacob Duffy, no relation to Boyzone's Keith I don't think, overcooks a yorker with his third delivery and Harry Brook bludgeons it to the fence for four.

It's a bouncer to finish the over from Duffy and Brook picks up the length early and swats it high over the square leg boundary for six.

  7. Eng 146-8published at 27.1 overs

The crowd gee up Jacob Duffy as he runs in for the hat-trick ball.

However, Harry Brooks survives by keeping out a yorker.

I was going to go back to bed but I might wait another five minutes to see the end of the England innings.

Adil Rashid is the new batter as Mitchell Santner rattles through an over.

Three singles milked off the over. No harm in a bit of that.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 26 overs

    Carse c Williamson b Duffy 0 (Eng 143-8)

    Two in two.

After a slower ball to get rid of Jamie Overton it's banged in short by Jacob Duffy to Brydon Carse who fends it off.

However, he fends it straight into the hands of Kane Williamson at backward point.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 25.5 overs

    Overton c Mitchell b Duffy 46 (Eng 143-7)

That WinViz predictor will have dropped a few more percent now.

A soft dismissal to get rid of Jamie Overton, in truth.

The England all-rounder attempts to work the ball to leg but it's slower from Jacob Duffy and he spoons a catch up to Daryl Mitchell.

WinViz had New Zealand's chances of victory as high as 91% as Matt Henry and Zak Foulkes wreaked havoc earlier.

Harry Brook and Jamie Overton have given England a chance after 25 overs of their innings.

It's an extinct volcano, I should point out.

Jacob Duffy changes ends and Harry Brook has a bit of a wild swing at a slower ball outside off stump.

The ball flies high down to third where Matthew Henry cannot quite make up the ground to take a catch and ends up getting himself in a 'not the face, anything but the face' position.

  14. Postpublished at 03:09 GMT 26 October

    Thanks, Matthew.

Now things have settled down, a little, I can ask a question.

Is the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui the only major cricket ground with the view of a volcano? Answers on a postcard.

  15. Eng 140-6published at 25 overs

    Brook 66, Overton 45

It's time for me to hand to Timothy Abraham. At one stage I didn't think he'd see England bat in his 25 overs.

  16. Eng 140-6published at 24.2 overs

Crunched for four off the back foot by Jamie Overton. He's attacking Mitchell Santner too.

Jamie Overton came to the crease in the 12th over today. The average entry point for him in ODIs before today was 38.2 overs.

  18. Eng 135-6published at 24 overs

    Brook 65, Overton 41

Harry Brook attempts a sweepy scoop to Nathan Smith now, suggesting this may be a tactic this pair have discussed. New Zealand look happy to be patient.

  19. Eng 133-6published at 23.3 overs

Edged over the slips by the heaving Jamie Overton.

    He's attacking New Zealand's back-up seamers.

  20. dropped catch

Brook dropped on 63published at 23 overs

This would have been a fine catch.

Harry Brook nails a sweep shot but it goes too close to Rachin Ravindra at short third. Ravindra gets two hands to the ball while diving to his left but it doesn't stick.
