  1. NZ 46-3published at 8 overs

    Target 224

England are bowling straight to Tom Latham. Brydon Carse has a leg slip in place lurking for a catch down the leg side.

    Latham continues to look good.

You might have just seen pictures on your television from Mount Maunganui of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood warming up between innings.

Archer is sitting out this first ODI against New Zealand as England manage his Ashes preparations.

The 30-year-old's omission is not injury related and he will be available for the second ODI in Hamilton.

Archer did not arrive in New Zealand until yesterday, alongside fellow Ashes quicks Josh Tongue and Mark Wood.

Neither Tongue nor Wood are in the white-ball squad, but will be in New Zealand for their Ashes build-up.

  3. NZ 44-3published at 7.2 overs

Brydon Carse has an issue with his bowling boots. Luke Wood is signing some autographs while he has a chance.

  4. NZ 40-3published at 7 overs

    Target 224

A better over for New Zealand as Tom Latham clips a four in the air but safe through square leg and twice adds further twos. The sun is getting lower in the New Zealand sky now. There was talk the ball might zip around under lights earlier.

  5. NZ 30-3published at 6 overs

    Mitchell 1, Latham 5

Former New Zealand bowler Neil Wagner is on local TV and is talking up Brydon Carse's chances of succeeding in the Ashes on Australian pitches. He's a neutral. I trust him.

Despite losing the same number of wickets (three) by the fifth over, New Zealand have shown slightly better control with 27% false shots, compared to England’s 31%.

  7. NZ 28-3published at 5 overs

    Target 224

Tom Latham, a man with more than enough experience for the situation, drives his second delivery for four to dampen any English enthusiasm.

Still, for the first time since the very first over, England are favourites on WinViz.

A seam-up delivery with shape and bounce from Luke Wood. Jamie Overton has safe hands. An important breakthrough for England.

    Ravindra c Overton b Wood 17 (NZ 24-3)

Ravindra gone! England are surely favourites now. Luke Wood probes again and when he finds the edge the ball floats perfectly to Jamie Overton's big, grateful hands at second slip. Brook is rewarded for his early aggression.

New Zealand only need 224 but that looks a long way off now.

  10. NZ 23-2published at 4 overs

    Target 224

Eeeeesh! What a delivery this is from Brydon Carse. It pitches outside leg and beats Ravindra outside off. England appeal for the catch but, if anything, it must have hit pad.

Ravindra follows by chopping a four off the back foot. A good battle.

  11. NZ 19-2published at 3 overs

    Target 224

Rachin Ravindra counters with a flowing pull shot to take four over mid-wicket. We saw from Harry Brook's innings that attacking is the way to go.

Carse to continue with his tail up...

  12. NZ 14-2published at 2.4 overs

Luke Wood whistles the ball past Rachin Ravindra's edge...

  13. NZ 14-2published at 2.1 overs

All of a sudden England are up to 47% on WinViz.

Daryl Mitchell joins the elegant Ravindra in the middle.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2 overs

    Williamson c Buttler b Carse 0 (NZ 12-2)

Two in two! Brydon Carse has Kane Williamson too. The former skipper has to trudge off in his first appearance for his country since March having got a first baller.

This is another lovely delivery from Carse - hitting hard into a good length and taking the edge with a hint of movement away.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.5 overs

    Young b Carse 5 (NZ 12-1)

Full and fast from Brydon Carse!

He had already thudded one into the pads of Rachin Ravindra and then, having been driven for four, beats Will Young for pace to splatter the stumps via a flick of the front leg.

    England have their early wicket.

  16. NZ 6-0published at 1 over

    Target 224

    Inches away from the breakthrough!

Luke Wood responds by forcing Rachin Ravindra to slash into the air and the balls goes high to backward point. Jacob Bethell is leaping there but the ball just brushes the very tips of his fingers.

  17. NZ 5-0published at 0.4 overs

    Rachin Ravindra won't miss those.

Wood bowls onto the left-hander's pads and is whipped for four.

  18. NZ 1-0published at 0.3 overs

Wickets, of course, are the crucial thing for England. They're not going to win this without them.

There's a little bit of swing for Luke Wood early on.

  19. NZ 0-0published at 04:31 GMT 26 October

    Target 224

New Zealand are still favourites but England have more of a chance than it looked like they might.
