When she is striking the ball like that, Tammy Beaumont is one of the best to watch.

Timed to perfection. Cross was looking for that swing but Beaumont was onto it in a flash.

  2. 6 runs

    Fire 23-2published at 80 balls

    Target 142

Boom. Tammy Beaumont dispatches Kate Cross down the ground for six, beaming as the ball sails over the rope. That's more like it.

Kate Cross doesn't often bowl down the hill at Headingley. She usually gets the difficult overs.

It was a little bit short from her there and that is one of the best shots of the day from Georgia Elwiss.

  4. Fire 16-2published at 84 balls

    Target 142

Georgia Elwiss is unruffled by being thrust into the action so early in the innings. A shorter delivery from Kate Cross is thumped into the offside for four.

  5. Fire 12-2published at 85 balls

    Target 142

Captain Tammy Beaumont gets off the mark with a boundary, driving the penultimate ball of the set through cover for four.

It's an expensive set from Linsey Smith, with 10 runs from it, but she bagged the big wicket of Hayley Matthews.

Exactly the ball Linsey Smith needed. Hayley Matthews likes playing on the back foot and she goes back on a delivery that is much fuller.

    Perfect from Smith.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 88 balls

    Matthews b Smith 5 (Fire 6-2)

    HUGE WICKET.

A nightmare start for Welsh Fire as Hayley Matthews is bowled for five by Linsey Smith. The bowler jumps up with glee.

In comes Georgia Elwiss, who's probably had to scramble around to find her pads.

  8. Fire 6-1published at 89 balls

    Target 142

A welcome boundary for Hayley Matthews, pouncing on a shorter delivery from Linsey Smith and picking up four.

Tammy Beaumont can get stuck on her crease and is susceptible to an lbw early in her innings.

Great start from Kate Cross, some lovely shape from her.

  10. Fire 2-1published at 90 balls

    Target 142

An excellent start from Kate Cross. It's a maiden.

142 feels a lot further away than it did 10 balls ago.

A brilliant bit of fielding. There was never a run there and Hayley Matthews rightly sent her back.

    Dunkley run out (Wareham/Heath) 1 (Fire 2-1)

    Media caption,

'There was never a run there!' - Dunkley dismissed after miscommunication with Matthews

Oh dear. A communication mix-up and Sophia Dunkley has to depart.

She raced off for the single and was probably halfway down before Hayley Matthews sent her back. Dunkley put in the dive but the throw from Georgia Wareham was sharp.

She looks gone. Dunkley set off for a single that was never there. It is close.

  14. Umpire reviewpublished at 94 balls

The umpires have gone upstairs for a possible run out...

That might have carried. It was a great effort but it is a drop.

  16. Fire 2-0published at 95 balls

    Target 142

So close to an early wicket for Northern Superchargers!

Kate Cross dives to her right at mid-off but it's very low and she can't quite get her hands to it. A let off for Sophia Dunkley.

  17. Fire 1-0published at 97 balls

    Target 142

Sophia Dunkley gets Welsh Fire up and running with a single.

  18. Fire 0-0published at 99 balls

    Target 142

Left-armer Grace Ballinger opens the bowling for Northern Superchargers and starts with a dot ball to Sophia Dunkley, who defends.

  19. Postpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 7 August

    The players are back out.

Welsh Fire have switched up their batting order from last year, with Hayley Matthews now opening the batting alongside Sophia Dunkley and captain Tammy Beaumont dropping down to three.

Matthews has been in impressive form with the bat. She scored 177 runs at a strike rate above 135 during the T20I series between England and West Indies in May.

  20. How's stat?!published at 16:19 British Summer Time 7 August

    Kieran Parmley
    Cricviz analyst

141 looks to be a very competitive score for Northern Superchargers after notching 41 runs off the final 25 balls of their innings.

Only once has a 140-plus target been chased down successfully in five previous attempts at Headingley in the Women's Hundred (161 by Manchester Originals, 2022).
