The Bazball fallacy: Just because we can chase big, doesn't mean we should. Winning doesn't always justify the means, especially when tosses like this are won and thrown away.

I’d like to join all the people sat in offices ‘working’ keeping an eye on the cricket. My dad, grandad, uncle and cousin are all at Edgbaston today. What am I doing you ask? Filling in spreadsheets in an office. Would like to say I’m not a jealous person, but today, that’s frankly not true.

Over the past two weeks at county grounds around the country, players have been raising their bats with astonishing regularity.

No fewer than 59 centuries have been scored across the latest two rounds of County Championship matches.

A batter's paradise and a bowler's nightmare, with seamers left scratching their heads at how to use the unfamiliar Kookaburra ball.

But why have the runs been flowing?

BBC Sport's Adam Lanigan takes a look.

But for the most part, the morning session was dominated by India's sixth-wicket pair of Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja, who have steadily accumulated runs and pushed their side beyond 400.

Here are some highlights from Jadeja's 89.

    Thanks Tim.

Even with the late wicket of Ravindra Jadeja, that was very much India's session.

My dog sat on the remote and changed the channel while I was making lunch. Came back a few minutes later, changed back, and the wicket had fallen. Might have to let him sit on the remote more often...

Amazing the impact a wicket can have. England look reenergised as we tick towards the lunch break.

Washington Sundar has two to survive before the interval.

  16. Ind 418-6published at 109.3 overs

The left-handed Washington Sundar is drawn into poking at one from Josh Tongue, round the wicket, but does so with soft hands. Next ball Sundar ducks into a bouncer which does not really climb into him and strikes him on the gloves as he takes evasive action.

Let’s have a dose of realism here, as good as our fourth-innings chase was last week, India let us off the hook massively in both innings we should’ve been well and truly batted out of the game, and it feels like India are determined to do that this time.

It is a big innings for Washington Sundar because he has been selected as a batting all-rounder.

  19. Ind 417-6published at 109 overs

Washington Sundar is the new batter as England continue with Shoaib Bashir.

Shubman Gill comfortably dabs him into the leg side. It's interesting that as soon as India started to free their arms against Bashir that a wicket came.

A steady over from the England spinner with just three runs from it.

That partnership between Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja was worth 203 runs in 45.5 overs.

It was the fifth-highest fifth wicket stand in England.
