England finally have the breakthrough! It was a flinching defensive shot and Smith collects.

It didn't feel like it was coming but it has.

    The breakthrough!

Josh Tongue is rewarded for his sparing use of the short ball with one which surprised Ravindra Jadeja with its pace and bounce.

The left-hander fends the ball down the leg side and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith scuttles round to take the catch.

    England needed that.

That was brilliant batting by Shubman Gill. He has been going a little defensively against Shoaib Bashir but he is now taking his chances. That wasn't even a bad ball.

India need 20 wickets to win this Test match, Dave. Their best chance will be to get will be up the ante to give themselves enough time, and apply scoreboard pressure. I would imagine they'll keep going until they are bowled out rather than declare

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill plonks his front foot down and slog sweeps Shoaib Bashir for six over deep mid-wicket.

These two have now put on 201 for the sixth wicket.

Hi Tim. Do you think there is a total, or point in time, when India might declare? Or are they aiming to draw this test and await Bumrah's return?

Ravindra Jadeja danced down the track and tried to whack Shoaib Bashier down the ground earlier and ended up inside edging it.

The India left-hander gets plenty if the meat of the bat on it this time as he launches the England off-spinner back over his head for six.

    PitchViz rating /10 by session of Test (lower = easier for batting): 3.8, 2.8, 2.7, 2.5 .

The pitch is trending in the right way for England, they just need to get the bat in hand to make use of the placid conditions.

  10. Ind 399-5published at 106 overs

    Excellent analogy, Dave.

Josh Tongue is full to Ravindra Jadeja and the India batter times a beautiful on drive down the ground for four off the first ball of the over.

The bouncer eventually comes from Josh Tongue two deliveries later, and Jadeja ducks out the way.

India are cruise control at the moment.

England not lacking in perspiration, but not too much by way of inspiration at the moment.

Shoaib Bashir with a steady over - just one run off it - but without anything to really concern Shubman Gill or Ravindra Jadeja.

Never mind Harry Brook, I would settle for Ben Duckett bowling at the moment! Anything to break up this complete dullness.

I don’t think England are that style of team or captain to look book on their decision to bowl. They’re always looking ahead.

I think back to Headingley when India got 471 and England won by five wickets, so I think we’re a long way off Ben Stokes thinking they should’ve batted yesterday.

There is a week when he’ll get it wrong and it should’ve been last week if India took their catches. And there will be a week when the pitch starts to deteriorate and it could be here.

Chris in St Albans (@12:05) - how could you leave out the Nighthawk?!

    Mike in London

Chris, you can't leave out peak Stuart Broad; Nighthawk with a top batting score of 169. Lower bowling average than Simon Jones who he'd replace.

    Jeremy, Burford

Further to Chris from St Albans BazBall XI, I’d have to take Bairstow’s peak over Prior and Woody over Harmy owing to Wood’s ability to smash a few sixes but the rest is spot on.

Shoaib Bashir wheels away round the wicket to Ravindra Jadeja but the India left-hander looks comfortable. He picks up a single to bring Shubman Gill on strike.

The highlight of the over comes off the penultimate ball as Gill deftly reverse sweeps the England spinner for four.

Pretty boring Test cricket this. Easy runs everywhere. Expect England to match India in 3/4 the time and another one innings shootout.
