It's been 48 balls since New Zealand's last boundary. That's eight overs ago - they are digging themselves into a horrible hole here.

  2. NZ 63-3published at 13 overs

Still no sign of any boundaries or any intent from New Zealand to find one.

Three singles are ticked off Syeda Aroob's first over.

  3. NZ 60-3published at 12 overs

    Expertly done by Omaima Sohail.

The wicket and just two runs from it as New Zealand continue to stutter.

India will be absolutely buzzing watching this from wherever they are.

That is fantastic captaincy from Fatima Sana. How often do we see in T20 cricket that you leave that massive gap to that leg side and you don't have that mid-wicket in the ring? The captain put herself there to try and keep drying up those runs and it has worked.

  5. wicket

    Kerr c Sana b Omaima 9 (NZ 58-3)

But the pressure tells on Melie Kerr!

A swish of the bat as she trudges off shows the frustration. It's a soft dismissal after a scratchy knock of nine from 17 balls, chipping it straight to Fatima Sana at mid-wicket.

Pakistan's spinners are doing an excellent job here.

  6. NZ 58-2published at 11 overs

Nashra Sandhu delivers another fine over, taking all the pace off the ball and trying to force Sophie Devine into a big shot.

The New Zealand skipper is happy to wait for now, just dabbing it around for singles as she settles in for an explosive finish, which is a job she fulfils very well.

Sophie Devine will know New Zealand's middle order is quite fragile after her, so the captain will be under a lot of pressure here.

Both these batters look quite nervy out there.

  8. NZ 54-2published at 10 overs

Another tidy over from Pakistan, with just four singles worked from it as Melie Kerr and skipper Sophie Devine get settled in.

New Zealand are still in a solid position at the halfway mark but Pakistan's spinners have slowed things down very efficiently.

Pakistan have done a really good job of restricting New Zealand in the past few overs.

Those two quick wickets have slowed the scoring significantly.

Suzie Bates was caught at the third opportunity she offered Pakistan - this was a simple chance that Nashra Sandhu put down earlier.

Another cracking over from Nashra Sandhu, who has figures of 2-7 from her two overs so far.

Pakistan are bowling really well. The spinners have been keeping it simple - nice and straight to the stumps and taking the pace off as well.

That wicket has fallen just because of the pressure that was building up from the last few overs.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.5 overs

    Bates c Dar b Nashra 28 (NZ 50-2)

    Nida Dar hangs on!

Pakistan's spinners are squeezing brilliantly here and the pressure tells on Suzie Bates, who tries to go down the ground but picks out the experienced Dar at long-on.

Omaima Sohail has bowled that over really well. She's piled pressure on new batter Melie Kerr.

  15. dropped catch

Kerr dropped on 0published at 8 overs

    NZ 45-1

    Another.

The pressure is building on Melie Kerr, who faces four dots without a run, and she tries to break the shackles by hitting Omaima Sohail down the ground.

She doesn't get hold of it, chipping the ball back to the bowler who puts it down after moving to her left, but she got two hands to it. Another poor drop.

Kerr eventually gets off the mark from her seventh ball with a sweep for a single.

I saw the New Zealand players earlier in the hotel and they were really up for this game. I think they will be relishing this opportunity.

They wouldn't admit it, but they probably thought it would be really, really tough to put themselves in the position they are in right now, going into this tournament.

  17. NZ 41-1published at 7 overs

All-rounder Melie Kerr joins Bates in the middle, and Nashra Sandhu bowls three dots to complete a very good over. The wicket and just two runs from it to put the brakes on New Zealand's positive start.

It was a real heart in the throat moment there. Fatima Sana wanted that catch, she called for it. Those few moments would have been nervy for her. It's really good to see her out there smiling, enjoying herself and leading the team.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.3 overs

    Plimmer c Sana b Sandhu 17 (NZ 41-1)

    Finally, a catch is taken!

Georgia Plimmer tries to keep advancing the run-rate by skipping down the pitch to Nashra Sandhu, but the bowler smartly throws it wider and Plimmer completely loses her shape.

It flies up in the air and Fatima Sana takes a juggling catch - eventually! Big breakthrough for Pakistan.

That is a really poor drop, I'm afraid. Nashra Sandhu needs to be taking that.
