South Africa will be wanting to pick up as many wickets as possible in this short period and really apply the pressure. They've got two slips in and a gully.

The surface is getting slower and slower.

Maia Bouchier drives nicely and then cuts but can't beat the in-field on either occasion.

Maiden to start for Marizanne Kapp.

  3. Eng 0-0published at 0.3 overs

It's Maia Bouchier, rather than Tammy Beaumont, facing up to the first ball of the innings.

The first-innings centurion is happy to have a look early on, leaving two of the first three balls from Marizanne Kapp.

The players are back out and we're ready for this last phase of the day.

Quite how long they can play following that earlier delay for lightning is unclear at the moment but we'll update as soon as we hear any specifics.

Marizanne Kapp will bowl the first over for South Africa.

I don't think England need to change anything. They've been scoring quickly enough. The middle phase yesterday, they were scoring at six an over and they're already 114 runs ahead.

If they carry on like they did yesterday, they'll be fine.

Not too long left in the day but England will have a chance to add to their lead before the close.

Tammy Beaumont and Maia Bouchier are padded up, just going through some final preparations on the boundary edge, as the roller goes its work on the pitch.

England have been patient. They've had passages of play where they weren't on top and you can get frustrated by certain batters.

What I loved about England, and particularly Sophie Ecclestone, is they consistently targeted the stumps and set up batters.

Before that partnership between Luus and Kapp was broken, England stayed in the game and as soon as that partnership was broken, the collapse was on.

Since the wicket of Marizanne Kapp, South Africa have lost 7-44 and have played 25% false shots in that time frame. That is an edge, a play and miss or a ball hit in the air once every four deliveries.

Some performance from the England bowlers as South Africa go from 237-3 to 281 all out.

    That's a collapse of 7-44.

Lauren Bell finishes with 4-49, while Lauren Filer and Ryana MacDonald-Gay took two wickets apiece. There was also one each for Sophie Ecclestone and Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Nat Sciver-Brunt finishes it off for England.

Full and straight does the job again. Unlike Mlaba, Ayanda Hlubi does get in line with the ball but still doesn't get any bat on it.

The ball thuds into the pad and the umpire raises the finger.

Excellent work from England since the break for lightning to earn a big first-innings lead.

It has been a bit of a collapse from South Africa. It's similar to what we saw from England in their first innings, with batters getting scores and not going on. Wolvaardt, Luus and Kapp all got fifties. But England have been patient.

This pitch is starting to misbehave ever so slightly.

    No hat-trick for Lauren Bell.

She targets the stumps again but it's angling down leg and Ayanda Hlubi clips it to fine leg for one.

Play and a miss to end an excellent over from Bell. England just one wicket away from batting again - likely with a significant first-innings lead.

What on earth was Mlaba doing there?

That's why you bowl full and straight at tailenders.

    Mlaba b Bell 0 (SA 278-9)

Lauren Bell is on a hat-trick!

The England bowler did what she had to by hitting the stumps but quite what Nunkululeko Mlaba was doing there, I don't know.

She almost jumps out of the way to leg as the ball was fired in towards her pads and then looks back to see it has smashed into middle stump.

That is a beauty from Lauren Bell. One of the better deliveries we've seen today.

    A jaffa to Jafta.

    Jafta b Bell 8 (SA 278-8)

    Brilliant from Lauren Bell!

A nip-backer that pitched wide of off then goes through the gate to hit the top of off stump.

Not a whole lot Sinalo Jafta could do about that one. It shaped away from the right-hander before that movement back off the seam.

England need two more wickets to wrap up the South Africa innings.

Apart from that catch with Sophie Ecclestone and Heather Knight, we haven't seen the slip cordon being troubled too much.

It's another over briefly delayed by a sightscreen malfunction but when it is completed, South Africa have taken three from it.

The ball nibbles around a bit for Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sinalo Jafta plays and misses late in the over as a result.

Interesting. After three threatening overs with the new ball, Lauren Filer has been whipped out of the attack.

Nat Sciver-Brunt replaces her. A change of ends? A bit tired late in the day? Hopefully not an injury but a curious call, regardless.

With no Shabnim Ismail in the camp, South Africa haven't quite had the practice against someone with Lauren Filer's pace.
