Following that wicket, Marizanne Kapp has now scored 208 runs against pace bowling in Test cricket, and has been dismissed just twice, therefore averaging a mammoth 104.

The only other player to average more than 100 against pace (where ball-by-ball data is available) is her Delhi Capitals team-mate Shafali Verma, who has 323 runs against pace with three dismissals (Avg 107.66).

The covers are on and have been weighed down to keep them in place.

It's still not raining yet but the groundstaff are wandering off now so it seems as though this storm is imminent.

The groundstaff didn't immediately bring the covers on when the players went off but they are moving them into place now.

The players have also moved from the pitch side dugouts to the dressing room balconies.

That suggests that the rain is, indeed, on its way so we could be in for a bit of a wait, unfortunately.

England will think they've opened up an end. These two looked very comfortable out in the middle but they've opened the door.

You don't want this break in they'll play. They'll want to get the wicket of Nadine de Klerk and go into the all-rounders and South Africa's tail.

England needed that wicket because it's frustrating when two batters are out there taking their time, seeing off the ball, hitting the bad balls.

Ah. England will not have a chance to make further inroads because, with one ball left in the over, the umpires order the players off the field.

It's not raining. Not yet at least but it seems the umpires, or one of them at least, spotted some lightning and so off they go.

That's the reward for bowling really consistent line and length all day long.

Her dad and brother who've made the journey will not forget that moment in a hurry.

What a delivery for MacDonald-Gay. A great ball to get your first Test wicket and a great scalp. One of the best batters in the world, one of the best all-rounders. England needed that breakthrough.

    Kapp b MacDonald-Gay 57 (SA 237-4)

Bowled her! Ryana MacDonald-Gay has her maiden Test wicket!

Hit for four the previous ball, the England debutante strikes back with a very good delivery.

It's bang on the money, full and angling in to the right-hander before nipping away slightly to beat the drive of Marizanne Kapp.

Great bowling to end a stand of 99 for the fourth wicket.

A gritty innings from Sune Luus. It's not been fluent but South Africa needed this partnership.

Kapp at the other end has been free-flowing and rotated the strike. Luus has hit the bad balls. Two different approaches.

Sune Luus clips the ball down to fine leg for one to reach her second Test fifty from 124 balls.

She has dug in well for South Africa and looks determined to stay out there for a long while yet.

Every time Ecclestone's got the ball in her hand you feel like something's going to happen. But these two in the middle have kept her pretty quiet today.

Just one from Sophie Ecclestone's latest - her 22nd over of the innings already - with Sune Luus facing the last couple of balls but unable to get the run she needs to reach her fifty.

It is still very gloomy in Bloemfontein and the wind has just picked up as well...

Whenever the ball is thrown to Ryana MacDonald-Gay, regardless of the situation, she has the ability to land the ball in the same spot, plugging away.

She's yet to pick up a wicket today because they've been hard to come by for England.

  15. SA 230-3published at 72 overs

Good running from Sune Luus after guiding the ball down to deep third. She comes sprinting back for two to move to 49 and there she will remain for now after pushing the last ball of the over to mid-on.

Another steady over from Ryana MacDonald-Gay, who is still searching for her first Test wicket.

Kapp's going back to full deliveries from Ecclestone. I wouldn't be surprised if Ecclestone throws in a quicker, flatter one at some stage.

  17. SA 227-3published at 71 overs

Just that single from another probing over, there is certainly a bit of turn there for her and you never have to worry about Sophie Ecclestone's consistency.

But so far, it's just that one slightly dubious lbw of Laura Wolvaardt for the England left-arm spinner.

Kapp's played very nicely today. I think it's fair to say she's technically as sound as anyone in the game. She looks pretty unmoveable.

The ball after a thick edge goes wide of the slips, Marizanne Kapp clips a single to square leg to reach her half-century.

She's batted nicely and with real purpose since coming in, and has helped take South Africa to a strong position in the match.

England will want to be more adventurous with fields. They've bowled pretty well. Ecclestone has been outstanding, as has MacDonald-Gay. Maybe give Nat Sciver-Brunt another little burst, a bit of Lauren Filer, get the seamers involved.
