Ben Stokes is unmoved, still in his training gear. Safe to assume he will not bat.

    Four and gone.

Atkinson plays a neat reverse sweep to turn Santner for four, moving into the 40s.

He departs from the following delivery, lofting the ball to Glenn Phillips at deep cover.

    Not long to go now.

Earlier in the evening, someone said that he'd keep Crawley rather than Pope; I think he'll be patting himself on the back right now!

    Thick edge!

Matt Henry's delivery pings off Carse's bat and races away for four behind the keeper.

The England number eight then plays an ugly scoop-y sort of shot, almost lifting the ball to the point fielder.

Atkinson has to stop him heading off for a single too.

Ollie Pope's dismissal is the sixth time an England batter has been dismissed playing a scoop or reverse scoop in Tests in 2024.

As a batting side they average 15 playing scoop shots this year.

    England are still a'swinging.

Atkinson skies Santner into the covers, with the ball dropping safely between the fielders.

Carse then gets off the mark by cleaving the New Zealand spinner over long-off for six.

New batter Brydon Carse ducks a bouncer and is then struck on the shoulder from the final ball of the over.

Wicket maiden for Matt Henry, who has 2-54 presently.

Ollie Dope not Pope. What on earth was that?

Well, that's certainly a decision from Ollie Pope.

Perhaps inspired by Gus Atkinson's antics in the previous over, and despite being well beaten by the previous delivery, he backs away attempting to reverse ramp Matt Henry and leaves his stumps wide open to be hit, which they are.

On the broadcaster feed, David Gower audibly sighs before passing comment.

Gus Atkinson goes after Mitchell Santner!

He lifts the second ball of the over straight over the spinner's head for six, and follows up with successive fours, ticking a little further around the clock face each time - 6 o'clock, 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock (well, maybe 7 and a half).

At the other end, Matt Henry takes over from Tim Southee after lunch.

His final ball absolutely tears through Ollie Pope, slicing between bat and pad but reaching keeper Tom Blundell without making contact with anything.

Gus Atkinson strikes Santner's first ball past the point fielder.

Glenn Phillips gives chase and cuts the ball off at the boundary, with the England pair running two.

Santner then delivers a ball that beats everything and everyone, running away for four byes.

That brings up England's 200 - just the 458 to go.

Actually, given I was my secondary school team's scorer, I shouldn't imply I was any cooler in my youth than I am now.

In fact, I've remained remarkably consistent in every factor bar my hairline.

Anyway, the players are back out in Hamilton.

Mitchell Santner, a man with a very impressive head of hair, will resume the bowling after lunch.

    "Some pounding beats", honestly.

There it goes, folks - the last vestiges of my youth.

This lunch time, rather than a series of documentaries where you watch Glenn Phillips do archery or Rachin Ravindra visit his old school, the host broadcaster is playing a series of montages of cricketing action backed by what I'd roughly approximate to be dance music.

I never knew I needed a Tom Latham innings backed by some pounding beats, but here we are.

    I like your style, Jordan.

Waltz in, announce your improbable belief, don't endure the difficult early hours that would likely see you proven wrong.

To quote General Melchett in Blackadder, if nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

Despite regular collapses from the Bazballers, there remains the hope we can chase down a big total. That my good friends is what defines "Bazball".

Slightly puzzled as to why I've come onto this live page and we're engaging in Zak Crawley discourse, given he got out yesterday.

Not that there's a decision to be faced by Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, but this has been the case for a while and I'm not sure yesterday changes anything in particular.

All I'm saying is, don't let Zak Crawley ruin your Christmas.

Crawley needs dropping for this summer. Go back to county cricket - blood someone new. He averages less than 20 since this summer. His career average is only just over 30 after 50+ Tests. That shows he is not a Test-quality better. I know they are hoping he will be highly effective in Australia - and it is true that the way he plays that might be the ONLY place he can be effective. But you can always take him to Australia as a horses for courses option at 1 or 3 depending on how the 1 and 3 we pick for India go this summer.

In 50% of his innings, Crawley has scored 17 or less
