Good call, Graham Looking like 180 all out, sadly. Time for bed.

Annoyingly, Graham had the correct idea.

  2. Eng 133-4published at 29 overs

    Ouch, that is nasty.

A short delivery from Will O'Rourke does not get as high up as Ollie Pope expected and the ball cannons into his upper arm.

That was a brilliantly viscous over from O'Rourke, who looks fired up.

  3. Not outpublished at 28.4 overs

The barest of margins. Ball tracking showed the ball was just going to clip the top of leg stump for umpire's call.

  4. New Zealand reviewpublished at 28.4 overs

Another rapid ball from Will O'Rourke beats Ollie Pope's defences and hits him just above the knee roll.

The umpire turns down the lbw appeal but New Zealand ask for another look.

    Edged and out.

Will O'Rourke deserves that - he has been excellent this morning.

He finds some extra bounce and Harry Brook tries to fend it away, but can only edge the ball straight to Daryl Mitchell at first slip.

  6. Eng 133-3published at 28 overs

    Target 658

Relief for Harry Brook as he pinches a single to get off the mark.

Jacob Bethell, who looks more comfortable facing the spin of Mitchell Santner, clobbers him for back-to-back fours through the off-side.

    Just 525 more runs needed.

Joe Root sweeping left-arm spin in Tests:

    • In 2024 - 4 dismissals, 24 average, 144 strike rate

Will O'Rourke must wonder what else he needs to do to get a wicket as yet another searing delivery whizzes past Jacob Bethell's outside edge.

Bethell is not looking entirely comfortable facing O'Rourke.

Agree with Harry, Crawley is made for fast pitches and if I was to drop one of either Pope or Crawley it would be Pope every time, I feel like Crawley needs a score and he’ll be back to his best. Additionally, Pope never looks like he’s fluent or in form

Brilliant review. Ball tracking showed Santner's delivery straightened enough to go on and hit halfway up middle stump.

Root's tidy innings comes to an end. Out strides Harry Brook, who is on a king pair.

  14. New Zealand reviewpublished at 25.5 overs

Mitchell Santner gets one to straighten on Joe Root, who misses with a sweep and the ball hits low on his front pad.

The umpire turns down the appeal, but New Zealand send it upstairs.

658 is only four runs more than England scored in 1939 against South Africa for a draw - falling short of the 696 they needed for a win. This is entirely doable. Hopefully.

    Danny, London

If any modern team can touch England's 85 year old world record 4th Innings total of 654, its Stokes' Bazball! Records are there to be broken! To be honest, anything above New Zealand's modern era record of 451 would be special, even they if ultimately lose.

    Michael, Cambridgeshire

So, 658 runs in two days at 90 overs a day comes out at a run rate of 3.65 an over. Doable - should be.

50 for Joe Rootpublished at 25 overs

Joe Root recovers sufficiently to pull the ball onto the on-side for a single to bring up his half-century.

Root raises his bat to warm applause, though he still does not look 100% comfortable.

Ouch, now it is Joe Root's turn to take one right in the box from vicious Will O'Rourke delivery.

He has a smile on his face but I think that is just for show.

People calling for Crawley out need to remember his game is perfect for the hard, bouncy pitches down under and facing the Aussies pace attack. Crawley in.
