300+ suddenly looks as far away as the Bay of Bengal with Jamie Overton in the middle.

England are relying on Liam Livingstone.

Oh Joe. The Yorkshireman is gutted.

He's played a lovely, textbook shot in the air over the off side but the problem is there's a fielder standing right there. He doesn't even have to move.

Root knew as soon as he hit it and looked away in disgust.

Eeesh. That would have been some timing after the big build-up.

Liam Livingstone gets a thin nick off Ravindra Jadeja but keeper KL Rahul shells it.

Let’s see if Liam Livingstone can reproduce his classic Lord's ODI finisher innings vs Australia from earlier this year. That’s what England need to get to a competitive total with the power and depth of the Indian batting.

The sun is dropping and soaking in the ground in that golden glow as Joe Root, a little edgily, gets one away for a timely four.

Those stats look good for Liam Livingstone. Now he has to deliver.

Perfect platform for Liam Livingstone to tee off today. In the last 10 overs of an ODI, Livingstone has scored 209 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 180 and at an average of 41.8.

Did they have to chase (or set) as big scores? I'd have to check.

What many fans don't seem to realise is that ODI cricket has more in common with Test cricket (especially with its current tempo) than T20 cricket. It's not just a slogfest. The great ODI batters of the past (think Michael Bevan, Jaques Kallis) accumulated rather than blindly swiping.

We have people getting in touch to moan that England are batting too slowly. Others have said they're going well.

It probably means they're doing OK but nothing more.

Root flicks the first ball of the final 10 for four.

Shami continues, sending down a lovely yorker with his penultimate delivery that Livingstone just about blocks out.

Time for me to hand over to Matthew Henry for the exciting bit (hopefully).

Fourth half-century in nine ODI innings for Joe Root against India in India. Interestingly, his last half-century against India in India was also in Cuttack, back in 2017. Overall, he now has 56 50+ scores, the most for any English batter in ODIs, going past Eoin Morgan's 55.

Now Buttler has gone our lack of one more proper batsman will be our downfall. Huge innings for Livingstone. He needs to produce and I hope he does.

Mind you, eleven overs to go with a reasonable number of wickets in hand and passable score on the board - that is in Liam Livingstone's "get it launched" territory.

He lashes the sloppy final ball of Hardik's over away for four through point.

    A big wicket for India!

Jos Buttler goes to loft Hardik through the off side and can only chip the ball to mid-off, where Shubman Gill launches himself forward to take his second catch on the dive.

Having brought up a 50 partnership from 52 deliveries just two balls previously, the Buttler-Root stand now comes to an end.

England's most experienced pair had been setting a platform, with the big-hitting Buttler set to tuck-in from the final 10 overs, but that's not happening - the skipper whacks the ground with his bat in frustration as he walks off.

    There's the 50!

Joe Root sends Hardik to deep point for a single to bring up his half century off 60 balls.

This is the 13th time in 39 ODIs since the start of 2022 that England have reached 200 for the loss of three or fewer wickets.

They have won nine and lost two, with one no result, in those matches.

Seam at both ends as India bring back Mohammed Shami.

Buttler twos start and finish the over, bookending a set of four singles - one of them a leg bye though, so Joe Root moves to 49.

England have built themselves a good platform. They really need to capitalise on it and look to get up to 330 and beyond from here.

Three singles from Hardik's fifth over, as a Root single to backward square takes him to 48.
