Sean Richard: England in a great position to go for 350 with this base. Attack up front, consolidate and build through the middle. Go hard in the last 10. Makes sense to me, clearly not to some though...

Oliver J: Just want to see a 2019 Jos Buttler - hit 80 off the last 10.

Ravindra Jadeja's previous over went for five singles then a dot, this one goes for a dot then five singles.

    Ticking over.

  3. Eng 200-3published at 35 overs

    Four? Yeah, just about.

Changes at both ends for India as they bring back Hardik Pandya.

Buttler pushes him out the cover boundary - Shreyas Iyer runs round on the rope and dives to cut it off, but makes contact with the boundary sponge in his retrieval.

The England skipper closes the over with a single to his opposite number at mid-off, bringing up his side's 200.

Jam Barrell: I may be late on this but looking at the pitch why on earth do we have four pace bowlers and only one full-time spinner, where is Rehan Ahmed?

This is where Root and Buttler can show their experience. Take their time and bat sensibly whilst still scoring at a steady rate. With the younger ones coming through, it seems to be a case of all or nothing! Big partnership from these two needed.

  7. drinks break

    Eng 186-3published at 33 overs

Three dot balls to start Varun Chakravarthy's over, but Joe Root relieves some pressure with a reverse sweep paddle to send the fourth delivery away for four.

He picks up two more from a similar shot to bring the sides into the drinks break.

Well, after a long wait for the replays, Joe Root survives.

His gloves are right in front of his pads and there's just a murmur on the technology as the ball passes.

That's enough for the umpires - India have no more reviews.

But has Varun Chakravarthy got Joe Root here?

They're going to use their only remaining review to find out if he's lbw on the sweep.

  10. Eng 180-3published at 32 overs

Lovely ball from Harshit Rana first up, firing the ball past Buttler's bat with a bit of lift.

He doesn't cover himself in glory later in the over, trying to throw down the stumps for a run-out that was never on and seeing the ball go way wide, sliding away for four overthrows - the only runs from the over.

The India seamer gets some harsh words from his captain, who taps his temple - think, Harshit!

Since his ODI debut, Shubman Gill has taken 34 catches and dropped just four, his catching efficiency of 89.4% is the third-best for any player in the world in this timeframe after Jos Buttler (69 catches, 7 drops; efficiency of 90.7%) and Marnus Labuschagne (36 catches, 4 drops; efficiency of 90%) among full member nation players.

India bring back leggie Varun Chakravarthy and Buttler slips his fourth delivery away through the covers for four.

I’m sure all the fans who were saying we should be aggressive are angry at Brook for taking the aggressive approach now!

Nicely disguised slower ball and splendid catch from Gill. Brook was doing most things right today but has been undone by a good piece of cricket from India.

    Remarkable catch!

Harry Brook cracks Harshit Rana's ball in the air behind the umpire but doesn't entirely get hold of it.

He'd normally be safe, but Shubman Gill makes serious ground from mid-off, taking the catch going into a dive at full pelt.

The Cuttack crowd goes wild, and rightly so.

Wow you couldn’t write it…First we say they’re being reckless then they’re going too slowly!

    Gus in Durham

England take risky aggressive shots and get out, They get criticised for it. England play conservatively for a bit without losing wickets, They get criticised for it. Seriously England cricket fans are a joke! Pick a lane, you can’t have your cake and eat it.

    Ian in Bedfordshire

This England team can’t win, people moan too slow, people moan when we’re all out after 30 overs. Get to the last 10-15 overs with wickets in hand.

Joe Root gets in on the action, pulling Axar away for his third four.

The spinner's final delivery almost bowls Brook, skidding on and almost catching the England batter out.

  19. Eng 158-2published at 28 overs

Well, someone showed Harry Brook your text, Rob.

The England batter times the returning Harshit Rana through the covers for four, then advances down the track and slaps a second boundary through the same area.

One bounce before the ropes, flat and true - cracking shot.
