  1. Not outpublished at 41 balls

    Spirit 34-3

Has Rashid Khan struck with his first ball as an Oval Invincible?

Sam Billings calls for a review after Wayne Madsen is struck on the pad.

But replays quickly show it came off the face of the bat. Very definitely not out.

  2. Spirit 34-3published at 40 balls

Excellent again from Tom Curran, varying his pace and giving London Spirit nothing to work with.

Things aren't getting any easier for the hosts, here comes Rashid Khan...

  3. Spirit 30-3published at 35 balls

Ashton Turner is the new batter and he shows some good timing early on but can't find the boundary.

London Spirit are right up against it with Oval Invincibles bowlers showing real discipline so far.

You could sense something was building and it comes in the downfall of David Warner.

Wayne Madsen comes in, who loves a bit of spin and pace off.

    Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner on BBC Two

Warner couldn't get any of the strike in the powerplay. You felt that he was twitching and he didn't get any timing on that.

    The dangerous Warner goes.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 31 balls

    Warner c Jacks b Clark 9 (Spirit 26-3)

Another big wicket for Oval Invincibles.

Slower ball from Jordan Clark and David Warner tries to hammer it over the ropes.

He drags the ball from wide of off but picks out Will Jacks at long-on.

Two of London Spirit's big-hitters have departed without making much of an impact.

Since the start of the 2023 edition, the Oval Invincibles have taken 23 wickets inside the Powerplay, the second most for any side while also conceding at just 6.5 runs per five balls, it's no surprise to see them off to a good start once again here.

Sam Curran always steps up in big games. He is a player you want in your side. He makes things happen.

  9. Spirit 26-2published at 30 balls

    Remarkable stuff from Sam Curran.

The slowest of slower balls, two of them in a row, and David Warner is befuddled.

He hits the first to cover and only gets a single from the second. So much time for the Australian, almost too much time.

  10. Spirit 25-2published at 26 balls

David Warner gets on strike and promptly finds the boundary.

Too much width on offer from Sam Curran and Warner drills it through the covers off the back foot.

  11. Spirit 21-2published at 25 balls

Powerplay over and David Warner faced just four of the 25 balls, a great result for Oval Invincibles.

Tom Curran keeps the pressure up for the visitors as his first set goes for only three.

Spirit have plenty of work to do from here.

  12. Spirit 18-2published at 20 balls

Wayne Madsen is the new batter and is off the mark first ball.

Just five balls left for Jason Behrendorff but the Invincibles will be delighted with his 1-14 from 15 balls so far.

Fantastic bit of captaincy and bowling. Bringing Behrendorff in going down the hill here at Lord's and he got the outside edge.

A fantastic start for the Invincibles.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19 balls

    Williamson c Billings b Behrendorff 9 (Spirit 17-2)

Edged and gone! Big wicket for Oval Invincibles!

Kane Williamson advances to Jason Behrendorff but feathers behind to Sam Billings as he tries to whip the ball away.

A deserved wicket for Behrendorff and London Spirit are up against it early on.

A classical extra cover drive from Williamson. He picks the gap beautifully. We have seen so many of those over the Test matches this summer.

  16. Spirit 11-1published at 15 balls

    Top shot!

It might be the shortest form of the game but it doesn't mean there isn't room for some classical cricket shots.

Kane Williamson, in at three for Spirit, shows that with a gorgeous extra cover drive that beats the in-field and runs away to the boundary.

You just had the feeling that something had to give after such a great start. Jennings tried to flick it over square-leg, but Rashid Khan was not missing that.

He couldn't have picked him out any better.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11 balls

    Jennings c Rashid Khan b Clark 5 (Spirit 11-1)

The pressure tells as Jordan Clark strikes first ball!

On the pads from Clark and Keaton Jennings, wanting to make up for a slow start, whips the ball leg side but picks out Rashid Khan a few yards off the boundary cushion.

The Invincibles debutant juggles it slightly but clings on to give the defending champs the early breakthrough.

  19. Spirit 7-0published at 10 balls

    Brilliant stuff from Jason Behrendorff.

Just seven from the first 10 balls. If London Spirit were hoping to get off to a flyer, this has been anything but.

  20. 'We are buzzing'published at 18:35 British Summer Time 5 August

Oval Invincibles all-rounder Sam Curran: "I really enjoy this tournament and had goose bumps turning up to training. A lot of the guys know each other and we are buzzing."

On having the same team: "It's great to have the familiarity of roles. In the field, we know where we field. We have a few nice additions so fingers crossed it works again."

On what he loves about this tournament: "I feel at home with people that know me really well, a lot of Surrey players. Being comfortable around people helps and hopefully we can have a good tournament again.

"We had a team dinner and there were so many familiar faces. It has been pretty plain sailing. We won't overthink it but starting this tournament well helps because you buy yourself a few losses in the middle."
