Summary

  1. 6 runs

    Eng 122-5published at 16 overs

    Target 146

Terrance Hinds sinks to his knees in frustration.

He thinks he's got Dan Mousley caught in the deep but the ball just sails over the fielder's head and all the way for six.

Three wides and a six in that over, but also the big wicket of Sam Curran.

Nicholas Pooran put down two catches, but balance that with two very good ones including that from Shai Hope to remove Curran.

It's set up for a good finish here.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.2 overs

    Curran c Hope b Hinds 41 (Eng 114-5)

    The perfect response!

Sam Curran goes after the width, but slashes the ball straight to Shai Hope at deep point. It flew off the bat so fast, that Hope falls over while taking the catch but does well to hang on considering the state of the ball.

A fine innings from Curran but he falls at a crucial time. West Indies have a narrow opening.

  4. Eng 113-4published at 15.1 overs

Terrance Hinds is gifting England the runs here.

He starts his over with three wides, trying to execute a plan of wide yorkers but the soaked ball keeps slipping from his grasp.

From bad to worse for the spinner.

Sam Curran lofts one down the ground for six with exquisite timing.

  6. Eng 101-4published at 14.3 overs

Gudakesh Motie is unhappy with the state of the ball. It is drenched from the outfield and he's struggling to grip it with the seam also appearing to be soaked.

The umpires don't have much sympathy and just give him the cloth to dry it and carry on.

  7. Eng 98-4published at 14 overs

    Target 146

West Indies continue to commit to everything in the field, maintaining high standards despite those dropped catches, with Shimron Hetmyer covering plenty of ground at cover to prevent two boundaries.

Romario Shepherd gets through his over but looks in pain, grimacing with a possible groin issue. Potentially more injury woes for the Windies to contend with.

  8. dropped catch

Livingstone dropped on eightpublished at 13 overs

    Eng 89-4

    Oh no - again!

Nicholas Pooran can't catch a break here - or the ball, for that matter.

Liam Livingstone edges behind, a big deflection which went quickly, but that should be taken. Another huge missed opportunity as Gudakesh Motie is the unfortunate bowler this time.

Oh no! Nicholas Pooran puts down a howler.

Alzarri Joseph's mood is foul. He can barely even look at his keeper there.

Livingstone top-edges another short ball, which flies up and Pooran gets there pretty comfortably despite having to backpedal. The ball lands safely in his gloves, but somehow pops out.

    That could be costly.

    Wow!

Alzarri Joseph beats Liam Livingstone with a beauty, and the batter cautiously defends the following ball too.

In response, Livingstone dances down the pitch and pulls a good-length delivery for six!

Joseph is, understandably, furious. He follows it up with a sharp bouncer that Livingstone misses.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11 overs

    Jacks c Powell b Motie 32 (Eng 75-4)

    Great catch!

England's set batter departs after drinks. Will Jacks drives firmly off the spinner but he picks out Rovman Powell, who dives sharply to his left and takes it low to the ground.

An important partnership is broken by Gudakesh Motie.

  13. Eng 70-3published at 10 overs

    You guessed it.

A cautious over against the spinner as Roston Chase twirls away, conceding six from his second over. There have been 17 runs scored from the past three overs without a boundary.

But England are still in a pretty good position at the halfway mark. The pitch doesn't look as good for batting as we first thought, and the target is a further 76 runs from the final 10 overs.

  14. Eng 64-3published at 9 overs

    Target 146

Another pretty tentative and uneventful against the spinner.

Gudakesh Motie concedes six from his first over as Jacks and Curran tick along.

Will Jacks and Sam Curran are happy to rotate the strike off Roston Chase's spin, taking five runs pretty comfortably from his first over.

    Target 146

Too wide once more from Hinds and Sam Curran just guides it for another four, again with a deft chance past point.

We should see the seamers revert to pace-off from now on. The quicker bowling has flown off the bat.

Sam Curran's improved batting record this year has been based around his spin-hitting game with his strike-rate of 165 against left-arm spin his highest for any bowling type - it'll be interesting to see if he looks to take on the quality left-arm duo of Akeal and Motie or settles into rotating the strike.

  19. Eng 48-3published at 6.3 overs

Four more to Sam Curran, who slashes a full, wide delivery from Terrance Hinds past point.

That absolutely flew. It wasn't far from the diving fielder but he stood absolutely no chance with the speed.
