Summary

  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.4 overs

    Hetmyer c Mousley b Mahmood 2 (WI 37-5)

    West Indies are crumbling.

Saqib Mahmood sends down a bouncer that Shimron Hetmyer decides he has to attack.

He gets nowhere close to middling it and the ball balloons up and out to Dan Mousley at deep mid-wicket.

Given the situation, that is a very soft dismissal. A well directed short ball from Mahmood but not great from Hetmyer.

  2. WI 34-4published at 5 overs

Relief for the home side as, for the first time in the innings, they get through an over without losing a wicket.

Just two from Jofra Archer's over outside of that maximum, though.

  3. 6 runs

    WI 32-4published at 4.1 overs

    Powered over cover for six!

That's some shot from Rovman Powell, climbing into a full ball from Jofra Archer and depositing it over the rope.

Smiles all round for England but what on earth are the West Indies doing?

Attack, attack followed by wicket, wicket and on we go.

  5. WI 26-4published at 4 overs

Saqib Mahmood is going to keep bowling full with this new ball swinging and, it seems, West Indies are intent on attacking him.

Twice it nearly gets him the wicket of Windies skipper Rovman Powell but an uppish drive is just wide of the extra cover fielder before a leading edge loops back over the bowler's head for a single.

Less than four overs in and it's already England's game to lose, according to WinViz.

    Edge and gone!

Driven for four the ball previous, Saqib Mahmood invites Roston Chase to go again with a full delivery, wide of off stump and swinging away.

Chase obliges but this time there is just enough movement to find the edge and Jamie Overton gobbles it up at first slip.

    England are flying again.

  8. WI 17-3published at 3 overs

Jofra Archer has a leg gully in place for new batter Shimron Hetmyer so it's no surprise he ends the over with a short ball.

Hetmyer ducks it with West Indies needing to regroup after yet another shaky start.

Roston Chase is at the other end and, after nearly pulling to mid-on early in the over, got off the mark with a push through the covers for three just prior to the wicket of Nicholas Pooran.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.5 overs

    Pooran b Archer 7 (WI 17-3)

    Bowled 'im!

Full and straight from Jofra Archer, a wild swipe across the line from Nicholas Pooran and the middle stump is rocked.

Three wickets in the powerplay for England again and West Indies are giving them away at the moment.

It was a combination of sharp fielding and dozy running for the first wicket, but Jacob Bethell is a definite star in the making.

Very good start from Saqib Mahmood.

Just two runs from the over and the wicket of Nicholas Pooran, with new batter Roston Chase opting to just pat the last couple of deliveries back to the bowler.

Saqib Mahmood now has six powerplay wickets in this series, the joint most for an England bowler in a T20I series (David Willey also six vs West Indies, 2019).

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.3 overs

    Lewis c Archer b Mahmood 3 (WI 13-2)

Saqib Mahmood strikes again in the powerplay!

For the second time in the over, Evin Lewis sends a thick edge spiralling down towards deep third as he tries to hoick leg side.

The first was wide of the fielder but the ball goes finer on this occasion and Jofra Archer comes in to take the catch.

It was far too full for Lewis to try and pull it - he pays for the misjudgement.

  14. 6 runs

    WI 11-1published at 1 over

    Out of the ground!

Nicholas Pooran is in for West Indies and smashes Jofra Archer out of the ground second ball.

Banged in again by the England fast bowler but not short enough and Pooran nails the pull shot, pretty flat but a long way over deep backward square and over the perimeter fence.

Adil Rashid was effusive in his praise of Jacob Bethell in an interview with BBC Sport earlier this week - and has backed him to make his Test debut in New Zealand.

"He’s a very good player," said Rashid. "He showed it in the first game but also in the summer when he played against Australia.

"He showed his class there even though he didn’t get big runs. He showed with the sixes and fours he scored, and the way he goes about his business, he’s mature for his age. He’s got a bright future ahead.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if he played in New Zealand – with the way he bats and technique wise, with his drive, he’s looked to be a solid and accomplished player."

Rashid was speaking to mark the launch of a new charity cookbook called Taste of Cricket, published by the England and Wales Cricket Board to celebrates the diversity of cricket teas.

Rashid has contributed, with a Moroccan tagine which is served at Lord's his favourite.

Hope run out (Bethell) 4 (WI 5-1)

Shocking start for West Indies - but brilliant from Jacob Bethell!

Jofra Archer gets the ball to jag back from back of a length to Shai Hope, who fends the ball to square leg.

The batter thinks there is an easy single but Evin Lewis sends him back as Bethell comes round from mid-wicket, swoops and then - with just one stump to aim at - throws down the stumps.

Hope is gone by a long way.

  17. WI 1-0published at 0.2 overs

Early signs of just how spongy the outfield is as Evin Lewis top-edges a short ball.

It lands safely at deep square but plugs immediately.

England will be happy to see the Windies opener look uncomfortable against the short ball again, though.

From a cricket point of view, you want a West Indies win to keep the series alive and bring some excitement. I'd like to see their power and flair on display because their batting is their strength.

OK then, more than 50 minutes after the originally scheduled start time - and more than five since the revised start time - the West Indies batters reach the middle and we're ready to go.

Jofra Archer will bowl the first over for England, the left-hander Evin Lewis is on strike for the hosts...
