A poor delivery was given what it deserved. Watch out in the crowd.

Spin for the first time with Freya Sargent coming on for the final over of the Power Play. Bryony Smith climbs into a couple from the 18-year-old, lofting over mid off and then swiping a short one past the square leg umpire for consecutive boundaries.

  3. Eng 31-0published at 5 overs

Arlene Kelly is on for her first over, and with four singles nurdled from it, Ireland are pegging England back in comparison to Saturday's game

    Smith 15, Beaumont 9

Dublin must have had the weather that's spoiled things in Manchester last night - it's quite bright in Clontarf. Sorry.....

Slight update, the latest they would have to start to get a five-over match in is 17:46 BST, not 17:48.

So we've lost two minutes. I fear it won't make much difference.

  6. Eng 24-0published at 3.3 overs

    Smith 14, Beaumont 8

These two put on 72 off a ball under seven overs yesterday, and they are already giving the Ireland attack a hard time. Tammy Beaumont drives Ava Canning through cover for a lovely boundary, but then mistimes a pull, the ball dropping just short of mid on.

  7. Eng 19-0published at 2.3 overs

Bryony Smith is taking a shine to Orla Prendergast's right-arm medium, clumping her over mid on for a one-bounce four before swatting the third delivery over cover for her third boundary.

  8. Eng 11-0published at 2 overs

    Smith 6, Beaumont 4

Ava Canning takes the second over, and already keeper Amy Hunter is standing up to the stumps to keep the England openers honest.

It's a decent first over, but Tammy Beaumont gets off the mark in style off the last, guiding the ball between two fielders to the third boundary

  9. England dominant in Saturday's openerpublished at 1 over

A reminder that England thrashed Ireland by 67 runs in the first T20 on Saturday.

Set their record chase of 177, the hosts slumped to 109 all out as an inexperienced England side, featuring four debutants, eased to victory.

  10. Eng 4-0published at 0.2 overs

Bryony Smith's already in the mood, smashing Orla Prendergast's second delivery to the square leg boundary.

Ireland skipper Gaby Lewis has decided the hosts will bowl, and England's Kate Cross says she would have batted had she won the toss as well as reflecting on her first taste of captaincy for England.

"I've been really lucky to have a brilliant group of [players, and when you hand people their debut caps it is pretty special."

  15. 'We have to keep our mind open'published at 14:38 British Summer Time 15 September

Australia batter Matt Short, speaking on BBC One: "It is doubtful we will get a full fixture in. We have to keep or mind open to a shorter game. It will be hard to stay switched on as long as we can. Come game-time we have to be wary of when to switch on and get the game done."

You are kind of defending Manchester there, Dave. Always good to see the hand of friendship reaching across the Roses divide though.

I would never ever defend Manchester but to be fair it's absolutely persisting it down on the right side of the Pennines as well!

Some news that has broken in the last half an hour: Harry Brook will captain England in the ODI series against Australia after Jos Buttler was ruled out through injury.

A right calf issue forced Buttler, 34, to miss the T20 series as well as The Hundred and he has not recovered sufficiently to feature in the five-match 50-over series.

Left-arm seamer Josh Hull has also been withdrawn from the ODI squad because of a quad injury.

All-rounder Liam Livingstone has been added to the 15-man squad.

The first ODI takes place at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

News from the ground? It's raining. Has been for some time and looks like it will continue for a good while yet.

The official cut-off time is 17:48 BST so while all hope is not quite lost, it is moving quickly out of sight.
