Summary

  1. Eng 548-5published at 95 overs

Well, Zimbabwe have two wickets in the first 40 minutes and the pitch is looking a lot livelier than yesterday.

It's also time for the Gilbert Jessop klaxon give Harry Brook is going at just over a run-a-ball.

Ben Stokes looked very uncomfortable as he played that shot. He didn't roll his wrists and didn't play it properly.

Probably not the innings that he wanted but he breezed through it.

Stokes caught by Curran off the 'threatening delivery' of Muzarabani

A thick top edge and Ben Stokes is out for a brief nine.

It's a well taken catch by Ben Curran, who was fielding into the sun, and a deserved wicket for Blessing Muzarabani, who has bowled better than his figures of 2-133 suggest.

  4. Eng 545-4published at 94 overs

Harry Brook adds insult to injury with another boundary to breeze into the 40s.

It's all very comfortable for England at the moment. If I were Ben Stokes, I'd be happy to tick along at this rate until lunch and then declare.

There was some good pace on that ball. Harry Brook hit a bit of an uppercut, it was up in the air but that was a really difficult catch. He did well to make up that ground.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catch - Eng 536-4published at 93.4 overs

Harry Brook is handed a lifeline on 34.

The fielder on the boundary puts in a big chase but the ball goes through his hands and plops into the boundary rope for four.

I just can’t see teams not taking advantage of any injury substitution rules. Imagine an injured Mark Wood coming off ‘injured’ after his first long spell of the second innings, only to be replaced by Jofra Archer.

The feeling I get from England at the moment is to let everyone get out there and have a hit before the India series.

That's back to back sixes from Harry Brook from two balls that weren't bad deliveries.

Zimbabwe are scratching their heads a little.

  10. Eng 531-4published at 93 overs

    Stokes 7, Brook 31

He's not looking especially fluid but when he gets hold of it, Harry Brook really gets hold of it.

    Out of nowhere, he's raced from 9 (18) to 31 (36).

Harry Brook got every piece of that, he'd made up his mind. Great shot, he's really in the mood this morning.

There's no pressure for England at the moment.

"Harry Brook's looking out of touch" a voice to my right says.

He responds with back-to-back sixes. The first, a mighty pull, is the shot of the day so far.

Not new, but something that never fails to amuse me at this ground. Downstairs, just below the press box, are the Hadlee Waiting Area and Sobers Waiting Area. Two former Nottinghamshire men, two all-time greats.

I'm not sure I've ever seen another waiting area named after anything or anyone. There must be a rich seam of strange things named after sports stars to be mined.

Blessing Muzarabani is looking like a real threat with this second new ball - he is finding significantly more movement off the pitch (0.8°) than he did with the first new ball yesterday (0.5°)

  17. Eng 518-4published at 92 overs

There are fewer jumpers in the field today. Trent Bridge, bathed in sunshine, looks absolutely glorious.

Zimbabwe are going to have to do something about these over rates. To not be able to bowl 90 overs in one day when you're using spin is not good.
