"He has been amazing, you can see today the way he gambles with bowlers like bowling Jack (Carson) today."

And on his upcoming first appearance at the short format finale at Edgbaston a week on Saturday.

"I cannot wait, it is going to be class."

  3. 'Shame England players aren't at Finals Day'published at 21:37 British Summer Time 4 September

Result: Sussex beat Lancashire by eight wickets

Brad Currie was not involved in Scotland's shellacking at the Grange today and Tymal Mills credited him as a key man to bowl up top for Sussex.

"We had a lot of options with the new ball, all the bowlers bowled beautifully."

But it is not the same for England internationals:

"It is a real shame not to have any England players involved at finals day with England games sadly scheduled the night before and day after.

"That is a real shame but we have to talk about the poor scheduling another time."

  4. Jennings: 'It did nip, but it was a true surface'published at 21:35 British Summer Time 4 September

Result: Sussex beat Lancs by eight wickets

    Losing skipper Keaton Jennings:

"There are not many games you will win losing so many wickets so early.

"From the side we were looking at 170, forcing the lads to play shots they maybe did not want to play.

"It did nip but it was a true surface, you could trust the bounce."

  5. Sussex improve 'previously terrible record at home'published at 21:33 British Summer Time 4 September

Result: Sussex beat Lancs by eight wickets

Tymal Mills speaking to Sky Sports:

"I have played a lot of T20 games here in 10 years, but that is right up there.

"I am really proud of the boys, we have been pretty poor in this form in recent seasons, the boys worked hard over the winter to upskill.

"The analysts showed us what we needed to work on and we have been much better here this year, we have improved our previously terrible record at home here which is crucial."

So Sussex will play the winners of Birmingham Bears v Gloucestershire in the second semi-final on Saturday, 14 September.

Sussex fans will already be attempting to buy transport up to Edgbaston for the pinnacle of short form cricket in England, and boy do they deserve it, superb performance it was from the home side.

It started with the wicket of England T20 opener Phil Salt the first ball of the match, and did not get much worse thereonin for the home side.

  7. 'Lancashire have been abysmal'published at 21:30 British Summer Time 4 September

Sussex beat Lancs by 8 wkts

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

    Lancashire have been absolutely abysmal.

That is as poor a performance in T20 cricket as I've seen in a very, very long time.

But that should not take away from what has been a brilliant evening for Sussex

  8. 'It's time to party'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 4 September

I hope they're well stocked in the Cricketers Pub because I reckon that some of these Sussex supporters will sup themselves into the early hours of the morning.

It's time to party if you're a Sussex fan - it's been a brilliant night for them.

Tom Clark cuts for four to win it!

Another short quarter-final but the home side won't care.

Another home side win, another south side win.

The sixth time Sussex will play at T20 Blast Finals Day.

There it is, the shot Dan Hughes is well known for, but it is the other of the three left-handed top order bats that nails the slog sweep for six this time, Tom Clark takes Liam Livingstone down, now it is only three more runs to win.

  12. 'It will be wonderful for the young cricketers'published at 21:23 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 105-2 v Lancs 114

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

It will be a wonderful experience for these young Sussex cricketers - the likes of Coles, Ward and Tom Clark.

To get an opportunity to play at Finals Day in front of a sellout crowd at Edgbaston.

    Sussex 105-2 v Lancs 114

Luke Wells bowls a third, gaining no home advantage here though after spending 2009–2020 batting and bowling here.

James Coles attempts to whack him to the legside boundary a couple of times, succeeds once, then Luke Wood makes his night even more forgettable with another Lancs misfield for four, again straight through him in the ring for four.

This night just gets worse and worse for the away side with a long trip home to come.

  14. Postpublished at 12 overs

    Sussex 94-2 v Lancs 114

Tom Aspinwall is given a second, still no bowling from two Test spinners in this Lancs line-up, Tom Hartley and George Dockrell are both good fielders who can bat six and eight, but I still thought they were picked in this side as spin options.

James Coles then lofts a slot ball over cover for four, he moved outside off to make that shot even easier, then goes again, over the leg side for just two this time.

    Sussex 88-2 v Lancs 114

Sussex fans are on form tonight, and why would they not be the way their side has played.

Oohs and aahs as Saqib Mahmood feigns to launch at James Coles in his follow through, the batter having not left his crease.

Mahmood does not add to his 12 Blast wickets then, that is the tally he finishes the T20 season on, his four overs going for 39 despite getting more swing than most, and beating the bat beautifully again with his final offering.

  16. Postpublished at 10 overs

    Sussex 82-2 v Lancs 114

Liam Livingstone strikes James Coles on the pad as he attempts to sweep and it looks plumb. Not out!

Very good umpiring as snicko shows the faintest of tickles off the glove of Coles.

Could have been Bon Jovi time as we reach the 10 over mark, but Hove's music man goes for Bryan Adams, fair enough.

  17. Postpublished at 9 overs

    Sussex 79-2 v Lancs 114

Luke Wells is allowed a second, in fairness he only went for six and the final ball bye of course does not go against him, so fair enough, but is he threatening enough?

Captain Keaton Jennings thinks so, then gestures to flight it up a little bit more.

Also only five off this over, that is three overs in a row where the bowler has only conceded five, and all of them from spinners in the second powerplay.

  18. Postpublished at 8 overs

    Sussex 74-2 v Lancs 114

Perhaps the brightest spark of Sussex's impressive array of youthful exuberance, James Coles comes in at four.

Magdalen College School can be very proud of him and the two Price brothers to name just a few of their recent alumni.

Lancs were 62-5 at this stage by the way.

    Sussex 73-2 v Lancs 114

Still no Tom Hartley or George Dockrell, but Liam Livingstone is the second of potentially four Lancs spin options.

It was his left shoulder he hurt earlier, and he does not use much of a front arm in his action, so little worry for him yet.

Tom Clark squirts one over point for two as Livingstone varies his pace dramatically as he so often does.

A really slow offie does not turn as much as Dan Hughes oddly expects, and he chops on.

  20. Postpublished at 7 overs

    Sussex 69-1 v Lancs 114

Former Sussex top-order-bat-come-off-spinner Luke Wells is turned to as the first slow option.

Now the fielders are allowed out he gets away with one particularly filthy drag down.

Dan Hughes motoring, Tom Clark has plenty of time to get himself in and play second fiddle to his overseas pro here.

Last ball could have seen a run out but thrown completely to the wrong end as both were near the striker's end at one brief period of time.
