A pick up leg side for six and a carve for four off Saqib Mahmood sees Daniel Hughes get past 3,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Then Lancashire want to review but they foolishly wasted their review early on for that ball that was even less close to the outside edge than this one.

He has bowled three overs in the powerplay, still no spin for Lancs, maybe the customary first outside the powerplay will see Tom Hartley, but it may be too late by then.

(Hotspot showed it was not out again by the way.)

Hughes ends the powerplay with another cover drive for four.

  2. Postpublished at 5 overs

    Sussex 48-1 v Lancs 114

Too much width from Luke Wood to Dan Hughes who smashes for four square, then down the ground, just past the caught and bowled effort.

Only 67 more runs required now.

  3. ouch!

Shoulder injury for Liam Livingstonepublished at 4.4 overs

    Sussex 40-1v Lancs 114

Really worrying sign for the Lancs all-rounder who is in a lot of pain in his left shoulder having dived to stop the fourth ball of that over.

23-year-old Tom Clark is the new batter.

After a delay and a bit of physio attention Livingstone is alright to stay out there, just about, they breed them tough up north.

  4. 'Ward fireworks come to an end'published at 20:48 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 39-1v Lancs 114

It was fumbled to begin with by George Dockrell coming in from the boundary, and that looked like it might cap off Lancashire's night.

But to be fair, he managed to find a way to react and he took the catch.

The Harrison Ward fireworks come to an end.

  5. wicket

WICKET Ward c Dockrell b Wood 27published at 4.2 overs

    Sussex 39-1 v Lancs 114 all out

Luke Wood is back, and swinging it, but perhaps too much, wide first up for the England white-ball seamer.

But what a second grab that is from George Dockrell as Harrison Ward slices the ball to deep backward point.

In truth he really should not have dropped the first attempt, especially with his decent reputation for fielding in all formats of Irish cricket in recent years, but the one-handed reaction is superb.

  6. Postpublished at 4 overs

    Sussex 38-0 v Lancs 114 all out

Saqib Mahmood continues and settles into a back of a length routine that serves him better, even with a streaky edge carved over short third for four.

Six boundaries for Harrison Ward, but just that one for him off this over.

Lancs bowling better and fielding better the longer this powerplay goes on thus far.

  7. 'It's a dream situation'published at 20:43 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 33-0 v Lancs 114

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

It's a dream situation for two opening batters.

Two opening batters that have played in an aggressive way.

It's worked superbly for them through the group stage and they've come into a quarter-final tie knowing they can play that way with so much freedom.

Jarleth Eaton: Gone for 12 off the first over and lost your review. As starts go when you’re defending 115, not ideal.

It's not got much better since for Lancashire either.

  9. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Sussex 33-0 v Lancs 114

Young seamer Tom Aspinwall, only 20 years of age, is tossed the ball for the third over, Lancs hoping for a miracle.

He nearly bowls Harrison Ward through the legs with a full swinging delivery first up, then drags his length back and raps the pads.

A tidy start, just seven off it, even with a long hop which, fortunately for Lancs, was pulled straight to Tom Hartley in the deep.

  10. 'This is almost free hitting'published at 20:37 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 26-0 v Lancs 114

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

This is almost free hitting for Sussex being such a modest total to chase.

These two have played this way and they can do it with so much freedom.

    In a quarter-final as well.

  11. Postpublished at 2 overs

Sussex 26-0 Lancs 114 all out

I kept mentioning how well Sussex fielded in the first innings, well Lancashire do not follow suit, a really poor piece of fielding at backward point sees Daniel Hughes get a bonus four runs to get off the mark before a stunning cover drive next ball closes the over in style.

  12. Postpublished at 1 over

Sussex 12-0 Lancs 114 all out

Sydney Sixers opener/three Daniel Hughes scored 144 against the red kookaburra last week, how will he fare against the white one tonight as he faces up for his first ball?

Saqib Mahmood is steaming in looking to add to his tally of 12 wickets in this summer's Blast.

  13. 'We're not used to reviews'published at 20:32 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 12-0 (target 115)

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

We are not used to reviews.

I can't remember the last game we had here on telly, let alone reviews.

  14. Postpublished at 1 over

    Sussex 12-0 v Lancs 114 all out

Left-armer to left-hander and the latter wins the first over.

Anything slightly back of a length is seized upon so quickly by Harrison Ward who made his name in the One-Day Cup last August and is now proving his talents in the shortest format. Three boundaries for him already.

An optimistic review last ball from Luke Wood proves no bat involved once ultra edge is consulted.

  15. 'Sussex could win it in the powerplay'published at 20:29 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 0-0 (target 115)

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

It's going to need a special spell of bowling I reckon, it's going to need a really good powerplay.

Sussex, if they go hard, could win it in this powerplay.

  16. Postpublished at 20:29 British Summer Time 4 September

    Sussex 0-0 v Lancs 114 all out

Luke Wood did the right thing saying no to that Liam Livingstone single having deprived the number 10, who can bat, from facing more than one ball an over in their partnership. Yet it was still a pretty mammoth moment seeing Liam Livingstone depart.

He may be fired up, he takes the new ball to Sussex left-hander Harrison Ward - given a chance at the top of the order this year, a chance he has taken with both hands.

  17. Postpublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 4 September

Eligibility rules are different for different formats Matt, Hampshire brought Liam Dawson in for the One-Day Cup knockout rounds last year too having not played in the group stage, but yes Jofra Archer isn't a bad man to have come in!

Matt Cave: I thought to be eligible for the knock out games of the Blast then players had to have played in the group stage? However, I’m happy Archer is playing, and even happier that Lancs have been bundled out. Finish the job, Sharks!

  20. 'As comprehensive a performance as you could wish for'published at 20:14 British Summer Time 4 September

Sussex v Lancs 114 all out

    Scott Read

It is just about as comprehensive a performance as you could wish for as a Sussex fan.

Their fielding as been outstanding, they have bowled brilliantly, the captaincy has been spot on and they have the perfect opportunity to reach Finals Day now here.
