  3. 'Getting the first win, we are pumped'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 9 August

London Spirit opener David Warner speaking to BBC Sport: "Getting the first win on the board, we are pumped. We looked in control but the way Jonny [Bairstow] hung in there with Chris Green, credit to them. But our bowlers held their nerve.

"That will give a huge boost to the group and we have to go to Manchester now with some positives."

On his innings: "Once I got a bit of rhythm I was okay. I tried to be positive and build a partnership with Kane [Williamson], that's why we changed the order. The connection with the guys in the middle made my job easier too."

On whether he gets nervous coming to new franchises: "A little bit but more the expectation of you as an overseas player. At Lord's, I didn't know what to expect and no one said anything when I walked by. I got some stick on the boundary but it was good fun."

  4. 'A great game of cricket'published at 21:23 British Summer Time 9 August

London Spirit captain Kane Williamson speaking to BBC Sport: "A great game of cricket. Runs were more free-flowing at the end but to start the way we did with the ball was great.

"Jonny [Bairstow] played an outstanding knock but great for us to hold our nerve with the ball.

"They played some outstanding shots and you try to stay calm. They cleared some big boundaries but we still tried to make them take the tough option."

  5. 'To fall nine short is disappointing'published at 21:19 British Summer Time 9 August

Welsh Fire opener Jonny Bairstow speaking to BBC Sport: "We got close. That is how it is with the shorter formats of the game. We didn't get over the line and there are many things you can look back on. But to fall nine short is disappointing.

"You have a short end here at Cardiff and the ball can fly. There was some wind as well. With losing early wickets, we knew we had to elongate the game. Greeny [Chris Green] played a key knock too and we tried to pull something special off."

On the team: "We have a really great group of guys. We need to be a bit more consistent but as a group of guys we are very talented. We just need some momentum."

On the fans: "They are very passionate, like the Yorkies!"

On playing internationally: "If that comes, it comes. It is doubtful judging by the fact that I haven't heard too much. "

  6. 'We needed one more partnership'published at 21:15 British Summer Time 9 August

Welsh Fire all-rounder Chris Green speaking to BBC Sport: "That was probably more fun to watch off the field than on. Jonny [Bairstow] and I had a really special innings and we felt like we were in it until the end. Nine runs short was a very good effort from where we were.

"Anytime you lose three wickets in the powerplay it is really hard work. If you can hang in there and put pressure on then you have a chance. But full credit to London Spirit, they were the better team today.

"I had a lot of fun and I feel in good nick with the bat. When you get hit for sixes, you have to get a few of your own back.

"For two games, we haven't been at our best. When you are behind and come back it starts to build confidence and that's good for me and Jonny. One extra partnership and we would have been in that."

Former England all-rounder on BBC Two

It was a brilliant innings to watch. Some of the biggest sixes of the day. It really was a special innings.

You can't take anything away from them, but some of the bowling from Spirit, getting those early wickets, that's where they won the game.

    Sir Alastair Cook
    Ex-England captain on BBC Two

Jonny Bairstow led the Fire back with some brilliant clean hitting. The Spirit seamers will be relieved they made it over the line.

If they lost it from there it could have been catastrophic for their tournament. What a cracking game of cricket.

A boundary in the next two and you'd think Fire will be the favourites.
