    Smith c Jennings b Gleeson 3 (Fire 12-1)

    Richard Gleeson strikes second ball!

Steve Smith tries to ramp him over the rope but sends the ball straight up in the air and into the waiting hands of Keaton Jennings at third.

It's been a great start from London Spirit.

This is a big old ground so there are lots of opportunities for twos. Sometimes teams forget that you don't just need to go for boundaries.

You can get runs just by getting bat on ball.

  3. Fire 12-0published at 90 balls

    Target 164

It's another good set from London Spirit, this time from Dan Worrall.

After conceding four off his opening delivery, his next four cost only two runs, including three dot balls.

Jonny Bairstow's been beaten a couple of times.

Jonny Bairstow in Hundred games at Cardiff:

    • 72 off 39 - win
    • 40 off 38 - win
    • 16 off 7 - loss
    • 5 off 8 - loss
    • 3 off 9 - loss
    • 0 off 4 - loss
  5. Fire 10-0published at 94 balls

    Target 164

And there's the first boundary of the innings.

Jonny Bairstow plays Dan Worrall's first delivery into the legside and a diving Ashton Turner can't prevent the ball from reaching the rope.

Luke Wood finds swings so quickly and he often gets wickets in his first few balls as batters struggle to line him up.

Jonny Bairstow was not expecting that. He nods in appreciation.

    An excellent delivery.

  8. Fire 6-0published at 95 balls

    Target 164

It's a good start from Luke Wood.

His second ball is a beauty, coming back in and beating Jonny Bairstow all ends up.

He has to re-bowl the final delivery after sending down a wide but still only concedes six runs from the set.

Steve Smith has really worked on his T20 game and he won't want to be outdone by his mate David Warner.

Luke Wood is a dangerous opening bowler. If there is swing, he will find it quickly.

  10. Fire 1-0published at 99 balls

Steve Smith is up and running straight away with a single.

Coincidentally the one successful 150+ chase here was by Welsh Fire against London Spirit back in 2021 with Spirit posting 163-5 - exactly the same score as today.

    Thanks Sam.

Yes, this has been billed as David Warner vs Steve Smith and with Warner finishing unbeaten on 70 (45), Smith has a tough act to follow.

  16. Fire need 164 to winpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 9 August

David Warner has done his bit for London Spirit, next it'll be the turn of Steve Smith for Welsh Fire.

Chasing down 164 at Sophia Gardens won't be easy if Spirit's bowlers get their plans right but with Jonny Bairstow opening with Smith, you can be sure Fire will give it a good go.

To see how they get on, it's over to Elizabeth Botcherby.

David Warner had a poor first game but he's delivered the goods in the second game here. A really good score and he didn't panic.

  18. Spirit 163-5published at 100 balls

    Warner 70, Jennings 5

A pair of twos for Keaton Jennings to end the innings.

That looks a very handy total for London Spirit, led by David Warner who bats through the innings to finish unbeaten on 70 from 45 balls.

  19. Spirit 156-5published at 96 balls

That's a gorgeous shot from David Warner.

Slightly overpitched by Riley Meredith and his fellow Australian just punches the ball back down the ground, dead straight and all along the turf, for four.

This is only the fifth score over 150 batting first here in the Hundred, just one of the previous four was successfully chased down.
