  1. PNG 38-3published at 6.3 overs

Bau finds a boundary off the third ball of Hosein's third over.

He went very early with the reverse sweep, but gets enough on it to send it to the rope at fine leg.

Hiri Hiri is the man to join him at the other end.

A very good catch! Roston Chase has made that position at point his own, taking some great catches. It’s no surprise that he took that but Vala should have put that away.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6 overs

    Vala c Chase b Joseph 21 (PNG 34-3)

    Never mind.

A stunning catch from Chase brings Vala's innings to a close.

Vala looked for a third boundary of the over, but a brilliant diving catch from Chase at point sends the PNG captain back to the pavilion.

A big problem for the visitors. Vala had been the first sign of runs for Papua New Guinea.

  4. PNG 34-2published at 5.5 overs

Another four from Vala, this time driven through the onside takes him into the 20s.

He is looking in the groove now and needs to turn this into a big score.

  5. PNG 30-2published at 5.3 overs

A lovely cover drive from Vala sends the third ball of this Joseph over for four.

Vala did really well to use the pace of that ball and just about finds the boundary on what is a very slow outfield.

  6. PNG 26-2published at 5 overs

Helped by that six from Vala, Chase's first over goes for 11 runs, not helped by two balls straying down the leg side.

Vala has looked the only batter so far likely to stick around, but it is still early and plenty of time for Papua New Guinea to post a good score here.

Alzarri Joseph, West Indies' express pace bowler, comes in to bowl the final over in the powerplay.

  7. 'Let's play some shots!'published at 15:53 British Summer Time 2 June

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Sounds

Somebody for Papua New Guinea has to say 'I am taking charge of this now.'

That’s a lovely shot, showing that positive intent. The average person isn’t expecting PNG to win but they can give West Indies a fright. Let’s play some shots!

  8. 6 runs

    PNG 21-2published at 4.1 overs

Chase's first ball is brilliantly dispatched by skipper Vala, pumping that over the deep cover boundary for a maximum.

Not the start Chase wanted, but one Papua New Guinea needed.

  9. PNG 15-2published at 4 overs

Russell follows up being hit for four by Bau with a wide but just five comes from that over in total.

West Indies stick with spin, but it is in the form of Roston Chase rather than Hosein.

  10. PNG 14-2published at 3.5 overs

Following four dot balls to start the over, Papua New Guinea do get off the mark in terms of boundaries as Bau forces a hack drive past Russell and it just about makes its way to the boundary.

Almost four overs in and still, West Indies have hardly given up anything so far.

Being aggressive is part of the PNG culture, it’s the way they play cricket but they have been sedated by this West Indies start.

  12. PNG 10-2published at 3 overs

Hosein with another tidy over. A fortunate edge from Vala that goes through Powell's leg buys Papua New Guinea a valuable two to end the over.

He is 1-4 off his two overs and now the experienced Andre Russell will come into the attack.

You cannot question Papua New Guinea's intent, but it has been a touch on the wild side so far.

  13. 'They are in trouble now'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 2 June

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Sounds

This is the worst thing to happen for Papua New Guinea, losing wickets so easily! The ball drifted in with the arm, a typical Hosein delivery and they are in trouble.

West Indies have got into them early and put them under pressure.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.1 overs

    Siaka b Hosein 1 (PNG 7-2)

    Bowled! Beauty from Hosein.

Siaka's innings is over almost as soon as it starts. Hosein gets a nice bit of turn and Siaka plays all around it.

West Indies are starting this powerplay excellently with the ball in hand.

  15. PNG 7-1published at 2 overs

Captain Vala getting off the mark earlier in the second over with a drive towards long off that stops short for a three.

The outfield looks quite slow early on and the hosts will look to make that count.

Hosein continues at the other end.

  16. 'Not the best of shots'published at 15:40 British Summer Time 2 June

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Sounds

Not the best of shots! His initial movement was forward and he fended at a ball short of a length. Not the start that Papua New Guinea would have wanted.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.5 overs

    Ura c Pooran b Shepherd 2 (PNG 5-1)

Tony Ura's big-swinging comes to an abrupt end.

Ura's innings lasted only five balls, but Ura looked to take on Hosein and Shepherd, failed to do either and nicked the penultimate ball of the second over to Pooran behind him.

An early scalp for Shepherd and the West Indies.

  18. 'West Indies have finishers'published at 15:36 British Summer Time 2 June

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Sounds

West Indies have a balanced side with good finishers. Their three spinners operate well on these wickets, they go very hard in the powerplay and hit more sixes than anyone. They are a strong side.

  19. PNG 1-0published at 1 overs

An very tight over from Hosein gives away just the one single, certainly a slow first over as far as Papua New Guinea is concerned.

We're now going to see pace in the form of Romario Shepherd from the other end.

  20. PNG 1-0published at 0.2 overs

A first run on the board for Ura. A swing and a miss on the opening ball would have been a concern, but it did show an intent to take on Hosein.

Captain Assad Vala is with Ura opening the batting.
