A couple of singles from the final over of the morning, bowled by England spinner Rehan Ahmed, take Glamorgan into lunch with some rebuilding to do.

After losing Zain Ul-Hassan early, to Ian Holland's first ball of the game, Eddie Byrom and Sam Northeast shared 57 for the second wicket for the home side.

But Northeast was lbw to Tom Scriven and Byrom fell to Ben Green for 41, leaving Kiran Carlson and Colin Ingram to see it through to the interval.

  2. Lunch at Derbypublished at 29 overs

    Derbyshire v Gloucestershire 84-4

Derbyshire's morning after Wayne Madsen won the toss and opted to put Gloucestershire in.

Luis Reece and Anuj Dal have picked up two wickets each, the latter bowling an excellent seven-over spell up to lunch which cost him just 11 runs.

Ben Charlesworth batted brightly at the start for 22, but the visitors will now look to James Bracey, who is 23 not out at lunch.

  3. Not much happening for Surrey attackpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 4 April

    Essex 114-1 v Surrey - lunch

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's good toss to win, but you have to make that count.

Not a huge amount has happened for the Surrey bowlers, they've stuck to their task but there's not a lot going on out there.

Walter played very nicely for his 54, Westley for 32 and Allison shaped up nicely as well. Surrey will have to have a sit at lunchtime and think about plans to frustrate and almost bore the batters out.

  4. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 29 overs

    Middlesex 130-2 v Lancashire

Luke Wells bowling for LancashireImage source, Rex Features

An important breakthrough for Lancashire in the penultimate over of the morning at Lord's as Luke Wells taps Sam Robson leg-before for 70 with a well-disguised googly.

The Red Rose started the game well, removing Nathan Fernandes in the fifth over, but Robson and Max Holden put on 122 for the second wicket to stabilise the home side's innings.

Holden will resume on 47, from 73 balls, with new partner Leus du Plooy two not out.

  5. Lunch at Northamptonpublished at 30 overs

    Northamptonshire v Kent 128-3

Tawanda Muyeye reaches his first 50 of the summer off 60 balls with a boundary off Raphael Weatherall just a few moments before the interval at Wantage Road.

Muyeye has so far added 68 for the third wicket with Jack Leaning (31 off 24) after ben Compton fell for 12 at the end of the 19th over.

England's Zak Crawley faced only seven balls before he was bowled by Northants debutant Liam Guthrie, who followed up with the wicket of Daniel Bell-Drummond and has 2-33 from eight overs so far.

  6. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 4 April

    Essex 114-1 v Surrey

Essex captain Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

A dominant morning for Essex after winning the toss and electing to bat.

The Surrey seamers were guilty of spraying the ball both sides of the stumps and under blue skies in warm conditions failed to build any pressure.

Paul Walter struck the first half-century of the County Championship season and has moved seamlessly to 54 not out from 78 deliveries.

Charlie Allison batted circumspectly early on and had made only six when Walter reached his 50 before becoming the only wicket to fall when trapped LBW by the spin of former Essex batter Dan Lawrence for 25.

Tom Westley has raced to 32 from 35 balls and Essex are on top at Chelmsford.

  7. WICKET and lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 4 April

    Hose b Aldridge 4 (Somerset v Worcs 110-4)

Kasey Aldridge has turned the morning firmly Sonerset's way with three quick wickets.

His third is another beauty as he beats the defensive push of Adam Hose with a quicker ball which knocks back the middle stump.

Hose goes for four and Aldridge has 3-14.

Gareth Roderick is unbeaten on 58, but after Jake Libby's 30, the Pears have slipped from 70-0 to 110-4 at the interval.

  8. Lunch at Utilita Bowlpublished at 27 overs

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 106-5

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

It’s been a good morning all round for Hampshire's bowlers, post Mohammad Abbas.

They’ve been tight on the whole, but Yorkshire have gifted them some dismissals.

Finlay Bean drove Brett Hampton lazily to cover and Jonny Bairstow slashed at a wide one from Sonny Baker and was caught at third man.

Dawid Malan then took on Mark Stoneman in the covers and lost that contest to a direct hit.

Hampshire will rely heavily on Kyle Abbott and Liam Dawson to provide stability when they are in the field this season - but having the opposition give away wickets as we’ve seen this morning helps the team get over the hole left by Abbas.

  9. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 4 April

    Notts v Durham 118-3

Durham fought back well from a shaky start with a 78-run third-wicket stand thanks to Alex Lees’ half-century.

He fell shortly after picking up his half-century and not long before the end of an even opening session.

After putting Durham into bat on a sunny day early wickets were vital and Fergus O’Neill obliged, taking 2-31 this morning.

Colin Ackermann remains at the crease and looks ominously good. He will lunch unbeaten on 41, with Ollie Robinson not out 6.

  10. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 4 April

    Warks v Sussex 88-3

Ethan Bamber had Sussex wobbling at 40-3, including being on a hat-trick at one point.

The home debutant has all three wickets to fall.

James Coles and Tom Clark have steadied the ship to give them something to build on after the interval.

  11. Malan 'will be kicking himself'published at 13:00 British Summer Time 4 April

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 105-5

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

If you're going to take it on, you've got to make sure you get home. Dawid Malan will be kicking himself.

It's classic run yourself out territory, unfortunately. He's probably played it better than he thought he did, so it travelled quicker to the fielder and he's not given himself enough time to get back.

    Warks (88-3) v Sussex

A second successive maiden from Vishwa Fernando.

Warwickshire bring on young spinner Tazeem Ali for the seemingly obligatory over of spin before lunch.

  13. Postpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 4 April

    Notts v Durham 113-3

Fergus O'Neill has had a super first morning at Trent Bridge.

He's only been signed for the first four matches of the season before Mo Abbas joins the Notts attack.

But he's made a strong case to stay for longer, particularly after Olly Stone's long-term injury.

New Durham batter Ollie Robinson is happy to see off the Australian's ninth over which costs just the no-ball.

  14. 100 up for Essexpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 4 April

    Essex 106-1 v Surrey

Tom Westley leans into an over-pitched Dan Lawrence delivery and sends it skidding along the ground to the extra-cover fence.

The home skipper then rocks onto the back foot and slices one down to the third-man rope.

Westley moves to 26 from 26 balls.

WICKETpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 4 April

    Brookes c Overton b Aldridge 0 (Somerset v Worcs 102-3)

    One brings two.

Somerset are fighting back hard before lunch as Kasey Aldridge picks up a second wicket of the over to remove Ethan Brookes for a third-ball duck.

Another super ball right at the top of off. Brookes had to play and it takes the most genuine of genuine outside edges to the big, safe hands of Craig Overton in the slips.

Adam Hose has to quickly pull on his pads for an awkward pre-lunch spell.

  16. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 4 April

    Warks v Sussex (85-3)

Ethan Bamber is back on and wants the wicket of Tom Clark - he's not getting it as the umpire decides there was no touch through to Rob Yates.

No wicket this time but he does make things happen.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 23.2 overs

Malan run out 31 (Hants v Yorks 96-5)

    What are Yorkshire doing?

Dawid Malan pushes Sonny Baker to extra cover, calls for a run that wasn't there and is run out by a direct hit at the bowler's end.

Yorkshire bat deep in this game - with Will Luxton at seven - and it's just as well, the way this is going at the moment.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 4 April

    Kashif b Aldridge 6 (Somerset v Worcs 102-2)

    Boy did Somerset need that!

No sooner do Worcestershire bring up their 100 than a second wicket falls.

Kasey Aldridge, into his third over, sends down a beauty which came back in a little and through the gap between Kashif Ali's bat and pad and takes the middle and leg.

  19. Postpublished at 22.4 overs

    Hants v Yorks 95-4

When he's batting like this, Dawid Malan really is a pleasure to watch.

Kyle Abbott is wide of off stump and the left-hander eases it away for the sixth boundary of his innings.

  20. Postpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 4 April

    Essex (89-1) v Surrey

The Essex captain Tom Westley collects his second boundary by flicking a wayward James Taylor delivery away to the mid-wicket fence.

It's the second time Westley has found the rope in this over and the Surrey seamers continue to struggle.

Time for some more Dan Lawrence spin...
