I don't know what Jos Buttler has had for breakfast, but I'll have a bit of whatever he had.

Jos Buttler finishes the over with a couple more runs. He has 44 off 26 balls.

  3. Eng 58-0published at 5.4 overs

A brief heart-in-the-mouth moment for Jos Buttler as he skies one off Nosthush Kenjige but Steven Taylor is unable to make up enough ground to get under it.

Buttler strikes back-to-back boundaries, afterwards, though. He chips one down the ground for four which just about beats the fielder then more clinically reverse sweeps to the fence.

England look like they are going to do this at a canter.

England, like the West Indies on Friday, are looking to finish this off as quickly as possible to boost the net run-rate.

  6. Eng 48-0published at 5 overs

    Target 116

England's current run rate up at 9.00 an over. They could be home well inside 15 overs at this rate.

  7. Eng 42-0published at 4.3 overs

More crisp, clean and delicious ball striking from Jos Buttler as drills Ali Khan for four straight down the ground

England are looking to get this done as quickly as they can.

  8. Eng 37-0published at 4 overs

Sloppy from USA seamer Ali Khan who begins his spell with five wides down the leg side. A poor delivery.

I have a theory - cricket grounds are not big enough for men's cricketers any more. What if we build bigger grounds? I don't know how we'd do that, though.

Jos Buttler is on the go here. It's almost too easy for such an accomplished player.

  11. Eng 32-0published at 4 overs

Jos Buttler is on the charge now. He moves on to 27 off 17 balls with a four off Nosthush Kenjige, biffed over long-on.

Phil Salt has a rather pedestrian three off six balls.

A reminder of the subplot here that England need to chase this target in 17.4 overs to be guaranteed to overtake South Africa's net run-rate and qualify for the semi-finals regardless of their result against West Indies.

Don't quite buy the "cricket is doing well in the USA"... I was in Las Vegas last week and couldn't get any World Cup game on in any sports bar... they did show hot dog eating competitions though....

    And another six!

This time it's not quite as cleanly struck by Jos Buttler, who half pulls a hand off the bat as he is through the shot, but he gets enough on it to clear the boundary at long-on.

    England are motoring.

  14. Eng 18-0published at 2.4 overs

Boom. England are up and running now.

Jos Buttler again uses his feet and this time he meets the ball on the half-volley and crisply dispatches Saurabh Netravalkar high into the stands for six.

    104 metres that one.

  15. Eng 12-0published at 2.3 overs

England's first boundary up. Jos Buttler shuffles down the pitch and thrashes Saurabh Netravalkar through the covers for a stylish four.

The tournament has generated a lot of new fans but some of the legacy is yet to be determined. Once the carnival leaves town everyone will wonder if it can be sustained.

USA don't have any fixtures planned against full ICC members until the 2026 T20 World Cup and you don't want to have a situation where there's a two-year gap where people aren't getting the opportunity to support Team USA.

Objective number one is to simply get some fixtures and have matches scheduled so fans have an opportunity to support them after the World Cup ends.

  17. Eng 8-0published at 2.1 overs

First signs of intent from Jos Buttler as he skips down the pitch and attempts to go down the ground against Saurabh Netravalkar.

The England captain doesn't quite middle it, but the ball plops safe and two runs are added to the total.

Currently in New Jersey where I can't find the cricket anywhere. The most common statement when I ask is "I did not know the USA even had a cricket team"

A tight start from left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh bowling round the wicket.

For the time being England's opening pair are content to knock him into the gaps as they get to grips with the pitch in Bridgetown.

A wide and three singles off the over.

  20. How's stat?!published at 17:22 23 June

Jos Buttler (908 runs) is 92 away from becoming the first England batter to 1,000 runs in men’s T20 World Cups.

Only three players have scored 1,000 runs or more - India duo Virat Kohli (1,207) and Rohit Sharma (1,062) plus Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene (1,016).

However, Buttler has scored more than 25 runs in just one of his five innings in the tournament so far (42 vs Australia on 8 June 2024).
