England's openers have the freedom to play themselves on this wicket, and then accelerate.

  2. Eng 2-0published at 1 over

Jos Buttler picks up a single with one worked off his legs.

An impressive start by Saurabh Netravalkar, who I think has barely turned down an interview request during this World Cup. He's a part-time software engineer, part-time cricketer, in case you missed it.

    We'll have Chris Jordan's hat-trick shortly.

However, Adil Rashid picked up arguably the two key wickets - Nitesh Kumar and Aaron Jones - in the USA's batting line-up.

    Enjoy.

Phil Salt is off the mark first ball with a nudge into the leg side.

Right, England openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler are in the middle. Saurabh Netravalkar has the ball in hand for the USA.

By my calculations England need to chase this target in 17.4 overs to be guaranteed to overtake South Africa's net run-rate and qualify for the semi-finals.

That's covering the possibility of South Africa v West Indies being a five-over game.

If that game tonight is a 20-over game then England can do it in 18.4 overs.

  7. England's path to the semi-finalspublished at 17:16 23 June

England are heavy favourites to win this game after restricting the USA to 115.

Victory would give them a good chance of reaching the semi-finals regardless of the result between West Indies and South Africa.

If South Africa win they will progress as group winners, if West Indies win it will come down to net run-rate between all three sides.

England's current net run-rate is 0.412 and they need to nudge that above 0.556 to progress regardless of that result as that would be the highest South Africa could reach in defeat.

Incidentally, England cricketers lost a home Test to the West Indies for the first time in their history on the same day as footballers lost to the USA.

The national papers had a meltdown.

I'd be amazed if England do not chase this total down with relative ease, though.

USA famously beat England 1-0 at football in the 1950 football World Cup. Is Bridgetown going to be the cricket equivalent of what Belo Horzonte was for football?

It is quite remarkable to see how many people have embraced with USA team during this tournament.

All you have to do is look at Saurabh Netravalkar as an example. He's become a folk hero. His Instagram following has grown from about 2,000 to 300,000.

That is just a microcosm of how many people have latched onto USA and enjoyed their success.

A spectacular end to USA's innings thanks to Chris Jordan's hat-trick.

England look in a pretty good position here.

Well, that was very entertaining, wasn't it? England are in pole position, and take you through their innings I'll pass things over to m'learned friend Timothy Abraham.

Chris Jordan celebrates his hat-trickImage source, Getty Images

England bowler Chris Jordan: "It is an unbelievable feeling, to at least restrict them after a solid fielding performance. To do it at a special place like this is always nice.

"I've been on a hat-trick a couple of times before but got it wrong so I'm just glad I was able to do it.

"It was a really good performance. We summed up conditions well. Adil Rashid controlled it and Liam Livingstone bowled well and really set the game up well for us.

"We'll want the points first and foremost and then we'll think about net run-rate in the innings if we get into a position to."

  14. USA all out for 115published at 17:05 23 June

That is a proper clatter of wickets at the end, and it means England need just 116 to win.

Chris Jordan's figures? 2.5 overs, 4-10. Take a bow, sir.
