  3. 'No one expected this on the final day'published at 15:16 BST 27 September

    Yorkshire 475 v Durham 346 & 85 - Durham relegated

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

What a day for George Hill with the ball, what a season for George Hill with the ball. He finished with 4-14 there from 10 overs and five deliveries, seven of which were maidens.

I don't think any of us expected this on the final day. It was about survival for both these counties - Yorkshire's was assured earlier today with that win by Surrey against Hampshire who must surely have felt that their time in Division One for the moment had also come but goodness me, what a capitulation by Durham.

You have to say and as harsh as it sounds that when you're playing for your Division One lives on a pitch that has looked good throughout - if you're out for 85 on the final day, then I think you probably have got what you deserve.

  4. Hampshire's friends in the northpublished at 15:10 BST 27 September

I've just seen Hampshire have replied to a Yorkshire social media post confirming their win with 'Drinks are on us lads'.

They owe them at least a couple!

    That really was extraordinary.

  5. LEICESTERSHIRE BEAT NORTHANTS BY 167 RUNSpublished at 15:09 BST 27 September
    Breaking

Northants 333 (target 501 to beat Leics)

    Liam Trevaskis bowls.

Stuart van der Merwe is forward to block into the covers.

The second ball is driven to deep cover point but VDM does not take the single.

A late cut... Keeper Ben Cox takes it on the bounce and there's a stumping appeal. Not out.

Forward... inside edge... caught at forward short leg by Sol Budinger! What a grab! One hand and taken over head height!

Stuart van Der Merwe is out for 116. This afternoon he became only the third player in Northants history to score a century on first class debut and the first since David Sales, when he managed the feat against Worcestershire in 1996.

    Liam Trevaskis ends on 6-85!

Leicestershire win! The runaway winners of the Division Two Championship match the Division One champions (Notts) by winning seven games out of 14. Superb season for the Foxes.

The trophy presentation will be underway shortly.

  6. Postpublished at 15:05 BST 27 September

Northants 333-9 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Five close catchers in. Nirvan Ramesh steers on the ground and just wide of slip to survive the last ball of the over.

    Back to Liam Trevaskis.

  7. 'I can't believe what's just happened'published at 15:05 BST 27 September

    Yorkshire 475 v Durham 346 & 85 - Durham relegated

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

I can't believe what's just happened, I've had people messages asking if I've seen the score and then more saying another one down, another one down.

I'm not even sure what the final score was but those wickets were falling down like minutes on a clock.

Professional sport just throws up these amazing scenarios and that's why we love professional sport.

I'm sure up at Headingley there is total disbelief in the Durham camp, what on earth is going on there?

That game was heading for a draw, it looked a dead cert to be a draw. If it was a draw they were safe, they didn't even have to go at it hard.

    Talk about a side disintegrating.

  8. Postpublished at 15:04 BST 27 September

Northants 333-9 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Over bowled. Now Stuart van der Merwe will face Josh Hull.

He pushes to the off side and declines the run.

Short and he rides the bounce to push to backward point.

He sways back inside the line of a third ball bouncer.

The fourth ball is pushed to mid off on the back foot. No run.

Chris Wright (in his last game as a county pro) does the fielding.

A single turned to mid wicket. Nirvan Ramesh to face.

WICKET and five wicket haul for Trevaskispublished at 15:00 BST 27 September

Whitehouse LBW b Trevaskis 0 - Northants 332-9 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Four close catchers in for Liam Trevaskis, who has four wickets in this innings. 4-85 at present.

Ben Whitehouse is struck on the pad but survives the LBW.

He's beaten down the leg side but again survives.

He goes forward now, pushing the ball safely past short leg.

Struck on the pad in front of middle and leg! Out!

Trevaskis has 5-85 and Leicestershire need one more!

    Here's Nirvan Ramesh.

  10. Postpublished at 14:57 BST 27 September

Northants 332-8 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Josh Hull is round the wicket to Stuart van der Merwe, who leaves a leg side bouncer easily.

A straighter bouncer and VDM almost falls forward to duck it.

Deep square leg moves in closer. Where can he get a single now?

Leg side bouncer and he tries to lift it to long leg. Missed.

Last ball and the fielders move up a bit. He's back to a short ball pushing to the off side but there's no run.

Ben Whitehouse went halfway down the pitch and back again and now he'll face Liam Trevaskis.

  11. Postpublished at 14:52 BST 27 September

Northants 332-8 (target 501 to beat Leics)

A minimum of 38 overs left and the sun is shining.

Stuart van der Merwe pushes Liam Trevaskis defensively out into the covers.

He's forward with a thick inside edge into the ground, picked up by Sol Budinger at forward short leg.

Clipped to short mid wicket and they run. Ben Whitehouse is well back but the throw goes to the wrong end! They're safe.

    Whitehouse blocks out the over.

  12. Postpublished at 14:51 BST 27 September

Durham lost their last eight wickets for 28 runs.

You'll struggle to find a bigger collapse than that, whatever the circumstances, but when you consider what was on the line here.

Durham only had to draw to stay up.

  13. Postpublished at 14:49 BST 27 September

Northants 331-8 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Well, who would have predicted Northants would bat 100 overs after 189-6 in the 62nd?

A stand of 128 between Stuart van der Merwe and George Bartlett and VDM is still there.

Josh Hull is now on from the David Capel End and Van der Merwe, who ducks comfortably under a bouncer.

He might get a few here.

He goes back and drops the fourth ball into the off side for one.

A bouncer and Ben Whitehouse ducks. 101 overs bowled.

  14. 'What a shameful performance'published at 14:48 BST 27 September

    Yorkshire 475 v Durham 346 & 85 - Durham relegated

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

What a capitulation this has been from Durham, unbelievable.

Hampshire, you cannot have believed your luck today that Durham have been as bad as they have.

    What a shameful performance.

  15. Postpublished at 14:45 BST 27 September

Northants 330-8 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Inside edge from Stuart van der Merwe, but he decides not to run.

A nudge to deep third and again the single is declined.

Full toss. Bunted over mid wicket and Chris Wright for four.

Sharp single taken off the fifth ball. Four close catchers in for Ben Whitehouse, who is over the ball and pushing safely to mid wicket.

  16. 'Quite stunning stuff'published at 14:44 BST 27 September

    Yorkshire 475 v Durham 346 & 85 - Durham relegated

    Kevin Howells
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

This has really puzzled me. I didn't think it would be easy but I didn't think it'd quite play out this way.

Full credit to Yorkshire who have just kept at it throughout.

    It's been quite stunning stuff.

YORKS WIN BY INNS & 43 RUNSpublished at 14:41 BST 27 September

Rhodes lbw b Hill 6 (Durham 85 all out)

    And that is that.

Crack open the champagne in Southampton and pack your bags for the second tier Durham.

Having had a lifeline thrown to them by Surrey's win at Hampshire, Durham have grabbed the anchor instead.

That was a huge capitulation with the innings lasting just 44.5 overs with the last eight wickets going for 28 runs.

Jordan Thompson raises his cap as they go off the pitch on his final Yorkshire appearance. George Hill takes 4-14 and Dom Bess 4-22.

  18. Postpublished at 14:40 BST 27 September

Northants 325-8 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Logan van Beek will try to wrap this up.

Stuart van der Merwe pushes to deep point and takes the single.

Two slips, gully, forward short leg and short mid wicket.

Ben Whitehouse pushes defensively to mid on.

He sways out of the way of a Van Beek bouncer.

Fuller now and Whitehouse blocks down the ground. Over bowled.

    Hogg c Bairstow b Bess 0 (Durham 83-8, trail by 46 runs)

That has come back in and Hogg has just got an edge and Bess is on a hat-trick.

Will Durham last another six balls of George Hill and give Bess the chance to get it?

  20. Postpublished at 14:36 BST 27 September

Northants 323-8 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Ben Whitehouse is forward, pushing defensively to mid on.

He's a bit late on the next ball, but keeps it out, again pushing to mid on.

Over bowled. What does Stuart van der Merwe do from here?
