Essex 99-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

"The damage was done for Somerset yesterday afternoon when they were bowled out for 99.

"They gave it their best shot this morning, Lewis Gregory bowling unchanged from the Graham Gooch End, picking up two wickets and one for Craig Overton at the other end.

"But it was always asking a little bit too much."

    Middlesex 634-9 dec v Glos 286 & 103-1

Glos pass 100 runs in the follow-on and Ollie Price helps himself to a half-century from 91 balls.

  5. 'Durham have got their work cut out'published at 12:05 BST 27 September

    Yorks 475 v Durham 346 & 25-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Emilio Gay didn't give me the impression that he looked like he hit that, he looked rather surprised to be given out.

Durham have got their work cut out here.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:04 BST 27 September

    Gay c Bairstow b Hill 9 (Yorks 475 v Durham 346 & 25-1)

George Hill round the wicket, he finds the inside edge of Emilio Gay's bat and Jonny Bairstow takes the catch moving to his right.

And Hampshire ears prick up in Southampton.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:02 BST 27 September

    Flintoff c Donald b Chappell 11 (Kent 271 & 190-8 v Derbyshire 698-6 dec)

The short ball does it for Zak Chappell.

He tempts Corey Flintoff into a pull which gets a big top edge to send it flying skywards and he is already walking off by the time the ball is caught.

That's a first wicket of the innings for Chappell.

  8. 'Positive end to a disappointing season'published at 11:55 BST 27 September

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

I think for Essex to finish with a win is a positive but there's no doubt about it and they'll make no bones about the fact that it's been a disappointing season.

They finish their County Championship season with a flourish. It's their third win of their campaign but by the standards they've set in recent times it hasn't matched that.

They'll look to regroup, gather and try to go again with the reinforcements they'll look to add to their side.

  9. new ball

New ballpublished at 11:54 BST 27 September

    Yorks 475 v Durham 346 & 20-0

Yorks have managed to get the ball changed and the first delivery from George Hill showed a bit of promise, getting a bit of movement away from Alex Lees.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:50 BST 27 September

    Zaib c Eskinazi b Hull 58 - Northants 189-6 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Breakthrough. That could open the door.

Saif Zaib is very much the prize wicket given his fine form.

Josh Hull gets him driving expansively away from the body and Zaib is caught at backward point by Stephen Eskinazi.

    George Bartlett to bat next.

  11. ESSEX BEAT SOMERSET BY SEVEN WICKETSpublished at 11:49 BST 27 September
    Breaking

Essex 99-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

    Jake Ball to Charlie Allison...

Smashed over long on, over the commentary box and heading for the river.

    Essex have won!

The first innings of this game was near parity, with Essex responding superbly to a Somerset score of 433.

Essex openers Dean Elgar and Paul Walter both scored centuries, also putting on 277 together before Craig Overton inspired a fightback with 6-88. The lead was cut to five.

Under gloomy skies and floodlights, Jamie Porter put the pitch into a completely different perspective with 4-18 late on Day Three and Somerset were routed for 99.

Although Somerset kept a few nerves jangling in the Essex dressing room with three early wickets this morning they did not have enough runs on the board.

Somerset finish third in the table and Essex have a mid table finish with first division cricket guaranteed for the club next year.

  12. Postpublished at 11:48 BST 27 September

Essex 93-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Lewis Gregory bowls to Matt Critchley.

He's across to drive into the leg side but hasn't timed it. No run.

A push to mid off for no run. A dab to backward point. No run.

A drive going forward to mid off brings no run.

An LBW shout is turned down to end a maiden over.

    Anthony Gibson

There was nothing unlucky about that, it wasn't a very good ball and handsomely dealt with by Matt Critchley.

  16. Postpublished at 11:41 BST 27 September

    13 more needed.

  18. Postpublished at 11:39 BST 27 September

Essex 80-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

15 to win. Charlie Allison pushes into the off side and wisely opts against the idea of a single.

  19. Postpublished at 11:38 BST 27 September
