Essex 74-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Runs this time. A fuller ball, driven through cover by Matt Critchely for four runs.

A checked drive if anything. Very good timing.

A shorter ball from Jake Ball hits Critchely on the pad but it's leg side and too high.

The floodlights come on as Critchley sees out the over.

    Dark cloud overhead.

Hampshire are not relegated yet despite the defeat to Surrey - but it does leave on the brink of going down.

They need Durham to lose to Yorkshire in order to avoid dropping into Division Two for the first time since 2014.

Durham now know they only need to avoid defeat in order to stay up as even a draw will be enough to see them stay in Division One.

  3. Postpublished at 11:33 BST 27 September

Essex 70-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Matt Critchley drives down the track and Jake Ball fields off his own bowling.

A shorter ball has Critchley trying to pull on the front foot but he's missed it.

He was really dancing down the track.

  4. Postpublished at 11:33 BST 27 September

    Yorks 475 v Durham 346 & 11-0

Eight overs gone and Durham's intentions are clear.

Not a great deal of help from the pitch for Yorks and fielders are furiously working on the ball to get something from the air.

But Alex Lees and Emilio Gay are not taking risks.

  5. Postpublished at 11:31 BST 27 September

Essex 70-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Lewis Gregory beats Charlie Allison on an off drive but this is a no ball.

A shorter ball is defended leg side on the back foot.

    Essex need 25.

Glad Essex are safe already, otherwise the nerves would've been unbearable. This suddenly looks like a hard total to chase down...

Essex 68-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Lewis Gregory to continue from the other end.

Charlie Allison defends on to the back foot.

Allison throws his head back a little in frustration as he's beaten on the outside edge.

Gregory can do little more than hold this line as Allison is struggling to connect here.

This time Allison connects to block down the ground.

  8. Postpublished at 11:27 BST 27 September

Essex 68-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

A swing and a miss from Matt Critchley and the ball goes through to keeper James Rew.

    Frustration for Jake Ball.

A drive and a miss to end the over. Essex are getting twitchy.

  9. Postpublished at 11:26 BST 27 September

Essex 68-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Deft touch from Matt Critchely, who guides Jake Ball safely to deep third for four.

A square drives slows up in the outfield but that's a safe two runs.

  10. Postpublished at 11:24 BST 27 September

Northants 173-5 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Two fours in the Josh Hull over as Stuart van der Merwe twice cuts short and wide deliveries through the off side.

Tennis ball bounce and very much a help yourself type of delivery.

  11. Postpublished at 11:23 BST 27 September

Essex 62-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

A streaky four for Charlie Allison, half forward to Lewis Gregory and getting an inside edge past a diving James Rew behind the stumps for four.

A heave and a miss next ball.

Allison misses and attempted nudge to deep third.

  12. Postpublished at 11:21 BST 27 September

    Yorks 475 v Durham 346 & 7-0

    Close but no edge.

Jack White sends one down which leaves Emilio Gay off the pitch and oh so nearly gets a first wicket for Yorks.

Just a reminder that this is not done and dusted.

  13. Postpublished at 11:21 BST 27 September

Northants 164-5 (target 501 to beat Leics)

Shot! Saif Zaib is back to Liam Trevaskis with a savage pull over mid wicket for six!

Only a tad short. Brutal shot.

That's a 50 partnership with Stuart van der Merwe in 109 balls.

  14. Kent lose seventh wicketpublished at 11:19 BST 27 September

    Kent 271 & 170-7 v Derbyshire 698-6 dec

Ben Compton (65) and Harry Finch (11) have both been dismissed by Ben Aitchison in the past few overs to leave Kent seven down and 257 behind.

Grant Stewart and Corey Flintoff are out in the middle for the hosts.

  15. Postpublished at 11:18 BST 27 September

Essex 57-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

The shot was on for Paul Walter. Just didn't quite middle it.

Matt Critchley is off the mark straight away, driving Jake Ball to mid off.

    Charlie Allison plays and misses.

He withdraws his bat from the line of the next ball, but is late in doing so.

38 needed and it feels like a lot.

  16. Durham's destiny in their own handspublished at 11:15 BST 27 September

    Durham 6-0 - trail Yorkshire by 123

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

News of Hampshire's demise against Surrey couldn't have come at a better time for the players here in Leeds.

It happened just as Durham were about to begin their second innings, 129 runs behind Yorkshire, after bowling them out for 475.

Jordan Thompson was the last man to go, on his final appearance for Yorkshire, caught off the bowling of Ben Raine, by Alex Lees, at long off, for 50.

Raine, who scored a century in the Durham first innings, then took 5-76 with the ball. If only Durham had a few more like him! He's given it his all to keep them up.

All they need to do now is bat the day out to stay up. Surely they can't mess this golden opportunity up! Can they?

I expect the cricketing equivalent of Coventry City v Bristol City in 1977 next. Ask yer dad!

As for The Yorkies, they are now safe.

    Walter c Gregory b Ball 30 - Essex 56-3 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Bowling change. Jake Ball replaces Craig Overton from the Sir Alastair Cook End.

Out! Paul Walter goes down the track, lofts Jake Ball away to long on and that's a well-judged catch running in the deep from Lewis Gregory.

    Matt Critchley is in next.

  18. Postpublished at 11:13 BST 27 September

Essex 56-2 (target 95 to beat Somerset)

Shot! Paul Walter steps outside the line of off stump and lofts Lewis Gregory to long off for four.

A drive and a miss off the next ball, which is straighter and swings a bit.

A loose push and that ball just evades the outside edge.

Walter gets a single whipped through mid wicket.

Charlie Allison is across with a cut to the off side but no run this time.

  19. Postpublished at 11:10 BST 27 September

Northants 156-5 (target 501 to beat Leics)

The ball is being changed. The umpires pore over a box of replacements...and we are now ready to go.

Ian Holland to bowl to Stuart van der Merwe.

  20. 'Thompson will be chuffed with himself'published at 11:09 BST 27 September

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Jordan Thompson gets himself a 50 in his final innings for Yorkshire. He deserves that, he's batted very sensibly out there in this knock.

He'll be pretty chuffed with himself to have come up with a performance in his final match for the county, his 65th first-class match and that is a 12th first-class half century.

He gets the applause for a player to has given very good service to the county for the past seven years.
