    Yorkshire 282-2 v Northants 147

Jack White is bowling his 15th over of the innings and his fifth ball is driven through cover for three as the ball is chased down a foot or so from the rope.

James Wharton keeps the strike with a cut to point for one.

It's looking rather gloomy at Headingley.

But Yorkshire will be desperate to stay out there for as long as possible to try and clinch promotion tonight.

They need 350 and that third precious batting point.

  2. Postpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex 33-0 v Middlesex 271

Toby Roland-Jones ends the seventh over with a leg side ball but Tom Haines is unable to work the ball away.

Oli Carter is forward to Ryan Higgins, trying to drive the all-rounder away through the off side and that's a great stop from Roland-Jones.

A no ball is blocked into the off side and Tom Haines only just makes his ground as the Sussex pair sprint a single.

Haines takes a more comfortable single into the off side.

Cater tries to cut the ball away into the off side but he's stopped at point.

Champions Surrey have fought back with the ball after tea, with Ryan Patel claiming three wickets, but Essex are still on for a mammoth first-innings score at Chelmsford.

Matt Critchley has just gone to his ninth first-class century with the hosts on 474-6.

Kent spinner Matt Parkinson finished with six wickets as Durham were bowled out for 360. Some collapse from 289-2.

Glamorgan are on course to end a disappointing Championship campaign with a victory. Gloucestershire are 152-6, chasing a target of 382 at Sophia Gardens.

Leicestershire are ticking along nicely against Derbyshire on what is effectively day one at Grace Road. The Foxes are 206-3.

  4. 50 runs

50 partnership for Balderson and Phillippublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 28 September

    Worcs 180 v Lancs 171-8

If Lancashire are going down, they're going down fighting - and this has been a courageous stand between George Balderson and Anderson Phillip.

Balderson guides Matthew Waite for a single to raise that 50 partnership and he's on 34 not out, with Phillip on 28.

It's also the highest partnership of this innings, which is one reason why Lancashire find themselves staring down the barrel.

    Yorkshire 275-2 v Northants 147

Fateh Singh is bowling his seventh over and Adam Lyth misses with a sweep shot...

Given! That's a first wicket for the left-arm spinner in first-class cricket.

Hit in front of middle and the second wicket partnership is broken after a hefty 260 runs.

A superb innings ends for the veteran opener, who is applauded all the way back to the dressing room.

    Will Luxton will bat next.

  6. Parkinson gets Parkinson for five-wicket haulpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 28 September

    Durham 358-9 v Kent

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Matt Parkinson has taken a five-wicket haul at Chester-le-Street and it's his twin brother who is his fifth victim.

Callum was caught and bowled for one. It is the third time Matt has got him out in County Championship cricket. He dismissed him last year at Grace Road, while on loan with Durham. They got each other out in 2019 as well.

Callum's dismissal left Durham nine down but Colin Ackermann then hit a six off Matt to bring up the Durham 350 and a third batting point.

    Sussex 22-0 v Middlesex 271

Ryan Higgins has been moved out of gully and into fourth slip as Toby Roland-Jones bowls his fifth over.

Oli Carter defends into the off side.

The fifth ball fizzes down the leg side and the umpire awards four byes.

    Notts 487 v Warks 105-4

Two wickets in three balls for Farhan Ahmed - it's a double wicket maiden for the 16-year-old!

Dan Mousley departs for a second-ball duck, trapped lbw on the back foot and Nottinghamshire are back in the ascendancy.

    Yorkshire 269-1 v Northants 147

Ben Sanderson is bowling a tight line to James Wharton, but the batter has just enough room to leave outside off stump.

A leg side ball is dabbed fine for one.

This session looks very comfortable for Yorkshire at present and the hosts still have 32 overs tonight to reach the magic 350. We might only get 20 overs in though with clouds about.

We may have mentioned that the third batting point will be enough to seal promotion.

WICKET: Rhodes b Farhan Ahmed 37published at 16:28 British Summer Time 28 September

    Notts 487 v Warks 105-3

OK, the relegation issue has just become a bit clearer...

Nottinghamshire have their first bowling bonus point - and that means Lancashire will be relegated today unless they score 250 in their first innings.

Great delivery by teenage spinner Farhan Ahmed to pierce the defences of Will Rhodes and break his partnership of 99 with Sam Hain.

  11. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex 17-0 v Middlesex 271

A maiden over from Ryan Higgins.

There's more frustration for Toby Roland-Jones though as the Middlesex captain watches Tom Haines drive off a thick edge behind point for four runs.

Still waiting for this third Warwickshire wicket to fall.

Lancashire are still eight down and hopeful.

    Nothing is certain yet!

  13. 100 runs

100 for James Whartonpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 28 September

    Yorkshire 264-1 v Northants 147

That's his third century of the season and how sweet will this one feel if he's still there when and if Yorkshire reach 350?

He reaches the landmark with a lovely straight drive past Ben Sanderson that almost guides the ball into the stumps at the other end for a glorious four runs.

154 balls with 15 fours and a six.

  14. Postpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex 11-0 v Middlesex 271

Not an ideal start for Middlesex or Toby Roland-Jones.

The first ball of the innings is driven through cover by Oli Carter for three.

A streaky four off the third ball as Carter drives and edges it wide of third slip and a more convincing four smashed through point.

    Sussex are up for this!

  15. First batting point for Yorkshirepublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 28 September

    Yorkshire 251-1 v Northants 147

That's the first batting bonus point.

Two more needed to seal promotion.

Justin Broad gets the ball to jag back off the seam and somehow fly past the inside edge of the bat, strike the pad and run away between keeper and first slip for four leg byes.

A bit of luck there for James Wharton.

    Worcs 180 v Lancs 143-8

Anderson Phillip has looked pretty comfortable at the crease so far, defending solidly and taking a couple of boundaries off Ethan Brookes and Jack Home.

Phillip is on 11, with George Balderson 23 not out as Lancashire inch towards the Pears' first innings total.

But it won't do the Red Rose county any good unless they can overtake Worcestershire's 180 - and add at least another 70 on top of that.

Here comes Tom Haines and Oli Carter.

Toby Roland-Jones has the new ball from the Cromwell Road End and the Middlesex captain will bowl to Carter.

    Yorkshire 244-1 v Northants 147

Just the one batting point for Middlesex is a boost to Yorkshire, who end the 52nd over of their innings within 110 runs of promotion to Division One.

Three batting points (350) will put Yorkshire out of reach in second place.

Adam Lyth drives with a thick edge past first slip for four.

A leg side ball is tucked away to deep square for one.

  20. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 28 September

    Notts 487 v Warks 85-2

Steady progress from the Bears since the tea interval, with the pressure almost completely off them thanks to Lancashire's travails with the bat at New Road.

Sam Hain has advanced to 40, with Will Rhodes on 27. The visitors still trail by 402, however.
