    #bbccricket

Leaders Sussex have lost an early wicket away to Northamptonshire where Ben Sanderson has had Tom Alsop caught behind without adding to his overnight 23.

Sussex are 90-3 and lead by 136.

Jonathan Tattersall is seven short of a half-century as Yorkshire make a steady start at Chesterfield.

James Wharton has reached 121 and the visitors are 290-5 - 214 ahead of Derbyshire.

And Glamorgan are now within 35 runs of parity with three wickets in hand as they reply to Gloucestershire's 179 at Cheltenham.

  2. Record stand for Hampshirepublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 311-3 v Kent

Charlie Stobo beats the edge of Ben Brown's bat with one which keeps a little low as he makes to drive towards long-off.

That's the third play and miss of the morning. Kent will be hoping their luck changes.

A single into the leg side from Vince at the start of the next over takes the partnership to 255 - a new record for the hosts for the fourth wicket against Kent, beating the mark set by Michael Carberry and Neil Mackenzie on this ground in 2010.

Matt Critchley and Shane SnaterImage source, Rex Features

Thick outside edge for James Taylor off Shane Snater and that ball will run away for four, going wide of the two slips and gully.

    Out!

Shane Snater strikes early this morning, castling James Taylor with a beauty that sees the off peg cartwheel back.

Seam movement pitched up and Taylor played all around it.

Dan Worrall is in at 11 for the hosts.

  4. 'Weather suggests it's a Jimmy Anderson day'published at 11:11 British Summer Time 1 July

    Lancashire 344-8 v Notts

    David Lloyd
Former England batsman on BBC Radio Lancashire

There is a bit of drizzle but they're not putting the big covers back on so the ground staff must think that this bit of drizzle will drift away.

They are very bullish in saying that once it stops raining it won't start again and we'll get a full day's play.

It's chilly and when you look at this weather with the cloud around - it's a Jimmy Anderson day. We didn't see him at all yesterday but I'm sure we will today.

  5. 250 runs

250 partnership up for Hampshirepublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 308-3 v Kent

Ben Brown guides Grant Stewart towards deep extra cover and scampers three runs to move to 109* and bring up the 250 partnership for this fourth wicket.

    Kent continue to toil.

  6. wicket

WICKET Patel b Higgins 17published at 11:09 British Summer Time 1 July

    Leics 179 & 50-2 v Middx 86 - Leics lead by 143

Middlesex needed a fast start and they have one!

Ryan Higgins had a fine day with the ball on day one and cleans up Rishi Patel early on the second morning.

Higgins took 4-35 yesterday and gets one to come back in just a tiny touch to the left hander and it takes his off stump.

  7. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 251-8 v Essex

    Maiden for Shane Snater.

Jamie Porter will bowl at the other end.

He bowls a full delivery and the first runs are driven square by James Taylor for two.

That shot takes Surrey to 250 in the 81st over.

Taylor keeps the strike with a single off the last ball of the over.

  8. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 1 July

    Somerset v Warwickshire 379-8

Just the one over here so far.

The good news is the rain will move from west to east, which if nothing else is good for this venue.

    Hopefully just a short delay.

  9. 'We're looking at an 11:30 start'published at 11:06 British Summer Time 1 July

    Lancashire 344-8 v Notts

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

I'm afraid the cover is on however the additional covers protecting the square and the bowlers run-ups have been removed by the ground staff.

We are in for a delay but potentially for not too long. We're looking at an 11:30 start here.

There is a little bit of light drizzle starting to fall.

  10. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 1 July

    Somerset v Warwickshire 379-8

The floodlights are beaming down over a grey Taunton this morning.

Michael Burgess gets a single first ball and Michael Booth picks up a couple with a controlled edge wide of the two slips for a couple.

Booth will keep the strike with a single pushed into the off side.

  11. 150 runs

150 for James Vincepublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 305-3 v Kent

That didn't take long. James Vince punches the third ball of the morning, which was in the slot from Charlie Stobo, to the rope at long off and brings up another 150.

Absolute no-doubter from the moment it left the bat.

It came from 204 balls with 23 fours. His second milestone in less than a week.

How many more are there here for him?

  12. Rain delays start at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 1 July

    Durham 190 & 33-3 v Worcs 112 - Durham lead by 111

    Well, this is annoying.

Light rain started falling shortly before the start so play will be delayed.

Nothing too serious, though, so should be up and running in the not-too-distant.

  13. Play resumes at Southamptonpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 301-3 v Kent

The sun is out at Southampton. Kent will start day two by taking the new ball to start the 84th over.

Charlie Stobo will take it, bowling to James Vince, who is 149*.

What Kent wouldn't give for a handful of quick wickets as they found yesterday.

  14. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 1 July

    Somerset v Warwickshire 373-8

Can Somerset dislodge Michael Burgess early?

Migael Pretorius will bowl first and try to do exactly that.

Burgess is on 126 not out.

His batting partner at the non -striker's end is Michael Booth on 13.

We're not sure if he's superstitious. Probably not.

  15. Day Two begins at the Oval as Jordan Cox absent injuredpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 248-8 v Essex

What would a par score be? 270-odd? 300?

The latter feels like a tall order for the Surrey tail against Essex bowling of the quality we saw on Sunday.

Tom Lawes is 13 not out and will take guard first this morning, facing Shane Snater at a fairly overcast Oval.

James Taylor is 11 not out at the other end.

Confirmation this morning that Jordan Cox, who had surgery after stomach problems last night, will take no further part in this match.

  17. Hope on the horizon at Southport?published at 10:56 British Summer Time 1 July

    Lancashire 344-8 v Notts

While the start has been officially delayed at Southport, the weather radar is showing the pesky finger of rain which has swept across the north west this morning should have cleared by now.

The mop-up operation always takes a while at outgrounds, of course, and there might be further scattered showers later in the day, but hopes remain high that the worst of the day's weather has been and gone in the past couple of hours in Lancashire.

The players are out and are warming up - the hope is we should only miss about half an hour. Confirmation to come.

  18. What happened in Division Two?published at 10:54 British Summer Time 1 July

    #bbccricket

Not a day for improving your batting average in Division Two where a staggering 75 wickets fell on day one.

Leaders Sussex are already batting a second time and are in pole position - 129 runs ahead with eight second-innings wickets in hand - after skittling Northants for 97.

And even better for the table-toppers, their nearest challengers Middlesex faltered away to Leicestershire in another match into its third innings.

After bowling out the hosts for 79, Middlesex were then castled for just 86 as Ben Mike and Ben Green took nine of the wickets to fall. The Foxes ended the day 133 ahead with nine wickets intact.

Yorkshire look well set for back-to-back wins to maintain their promotion charge as the ended day one on 283-5, with James Wharton making an unbeaten century.

The Tykes are 207 ahead of Derbyshire's meagre first innings total.

And Gloucestershire fought back well at Cheltenham, reducing Glamorgan to 133-7 after posting 179.

  19. Durham look to set a targetpublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 1 July

    Durham 190 & 33-3 v Worcs 112 - Durham lead by 111

    Matthew PottsImage source, Rex Features

The initiative was passed between both sides in a eventful opening day at Chester-le-Street.

The Pears made good use of a very green wicket to bowl out the hosts for 190, with Ben Stokes warming up nicely for England captaincy duties with his first half-century of the season, a 56 which was worth a few more considering the conditions.

Stokes also struck with his second ball of the match, but it was Matthew Potts who stole the headlines, celebrating his England call-up with 4-29 as Worcestershire collapsed from 99-4 to 112 all out.

But there was still time for the pendulum to swing once more late on as Nathan Smith reduced the hosts to 33-3

Durham saw out the day with their number 10 and 11, Potts and Peter Siddle, at the crease. Nothing makes sense.

  20. Vince and Brown seek to turn the screw against strugglerspublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 301-3 v Kent

James Vince and Ben Brown will resume their monster unbroken 245-run fourth-wicket stand when Hampshire return to the middle against Kent this morning.

Kent were on top after winning the toss for just the second time this season and had the hosts 56-3 at one stage.

However, Vince made it back-to-back centuries after his 166 against Warwickshire last week and was unbeaten on 149 at stumps, while Brown joined him in the three-figure club shortly before the close at Southampton.

There are still 27 overs for Hampshire to add to their two batting bonus points.

Basement-boys Kent will be desperate for early wickets to avoid the threat of another 500+ first innings score against them this season.
