Zak Crawley creams Mohammed Siraj through the covers for four.

The best of Crawley as he stands tall and powerfully drives the India seamer to the fence.

It feels a different day weather-wise to before lunch. The sun is breaking through and the blue sky revealing itself. The afternoon conditions could end up being ideal for batting.

The runs are flowing here at Old Trafford.

  4. Eng 45-0published at 9.1 overs

Runs off the legs for the Zak Crawley now as Mohammed Siraj gives the right-hander a freebie which the tall England opener clips fine for four.

I think we thought that these Indian bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah, would've got a lot more out of this surface. They need a breakthrough soon.

They're probably looking up thinking where have all the clouds gone.

  6. Eng 41-0published at 9 overs

Ben Duckett has looked quite fluent so far, albeit he's been given a few gift-wrapped deliveries from the India attack on his legs.

The left-handed opener flicks Jasprit Bumrah off his hip for another four off the penultimate ball of what is likely to the India quick's final over of his spell.

The challenge for bowlers facing Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett is that they both play really different styles of cricket and score and aim in different areas. That is also why they are so successful together.

Re. Cricketing hills. May I suggest Mount SnowDon Bradman?

    Rebecca, Hastings

Keeping on the theme of hill based cricketers, how about John Snow-don

    David, Calne

    Mont Saint-Michael Vaughan

    Josh, Cheadle Hulme

  9. Eng 36-0published at 8 overs

Anshul Kamboj is whipped out of the attack and replaced by Mohammed Siraj.

Zak Crawley now has a big muddy stain right down the middle of his England cable knit jumper from the previous over when he had dived to make his ground for the all-run four.

Appropriately, Crawley has a filthy hack across the line to Siraj midway through the over but fails to make contact. The Kent batter has yet to really settle into his innings here.

If the series gets tied, Jasprit Bumrah will have to play again.

It's been yet another day in this series where the momentum has swung back and forth.

  12. Eng 34-0published at 7 overs

Jasprit Bumrah is clanking through his idiosyncratic approach. Running in like the Tin Man with a cob on.

Final balll of his over and Zak Crawley manages pick up four, albeit an all-run four, after a diving stop on the boundary by Anshul Kamboj.

This is looking at England batters that are maybe surviving off one good innings per series (Pope and Crawley for example).

So here's a comparison of each batter's average over their respective Test career, and their average after taking away each of their highest scores in each series.

    • Root: 50.80 / 38.96
    • Brook: 57.67 / 38.26
    • Duckett: 41.89 / 26.10
    • Pope: 35.22 / 18.55
    • Crawley: 30.89 / 18.01
  14. ouch!

    Eng 27-0published at 6.1 overs

Yikes. A delivery from Jasprit Bumrah catches Zak Crawley on the bottom hand of his bat as works one to leg to get off the mark.

Crawley grimaces in pain before sliding his hand out of the glove to inspect the painful area.

The Kent batter is off the mark, though.

  15. Who is Anshul Kamboj?published at 15:00 British Summer Time 24 July

    Anshul KambojImage source, Getty Images

Anshul Kamboj is making his Test debut at Old Trafford after being called up to India's squad as an injury replacement.

With Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh ruled out of this match, the 24-year-old Kamboj has been selected ahead of Prasidh Krishna, who played the first two Tests in this series.

Kamboj has taken 79 wickets in 24 first-class matches at an average of 22.88, and also played for India A in two matches against England Lions earlier this summer.

  16. Eng 26-0published at 6 overs

Anshul Kamboj finally settles into some sort of rhythm and - backed up by some good fielding - concedes just two off his third over.

Ben Duckett picks up a couple off the last ball of the over with a punch through the covers.

What a start from Ben Duckett but he's had quite a few freebies to be fair.

Even the best in the world can be guilty of feeding easy runs to a left-hander.

Another delivery down leg side from Jasprit Bumrah which Ben Duckett glances fine for four.

England have 24 runs and they have all come off the bat of Duckett.

  19. Eng 19-0published at 4.2 overs

Two maidens to start with from Jasprit Bumrah before he gets a chance to bowl at Ben Duckett.

The England opener neatly flicks one full on his leg stump for four. Classic left-hander's shot.
