It's been a great day from England. Rishabh Pant wobbling out there was remarkable. When England desperately need a breakthrough, they somehow find it. There hasn't been as much lateral movement but India have bowled poorly. On a day like this, England will go after you.

England's day most definitely - they didn't get as many wickets as they might have expected from their quality of bowling in the opening session, but finished the job in the afternoon.

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley then put on a superb opening partnership of 166 - both fell before making their hundreds, but England will be confident they can push on from here and establish a first innings lead.

  3. Close - Eng 225-2published at 46 overs

    Pope 20, Root 11

Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the final over of the day.

His penultimate delivery is a decent yorker but Ollie Pope gets enough bat on it to send the ball fizzing down the ground for four.

Bumrah closes with a bouncer that Pope ducks and that's it for day two - England walk off the field trailing India by 133.

Anshul Kamboj has shown his skill, he can swing it both ways but he's not quite got it under control today.

  5. Eng 220-2published at 45 overs

Beautiful straight drive down the ground for four.

Joe Root sends Anshul Kamboj away with a perfectly timed shot.

We'll get one more over before the close.

    Crikey, that is close.

Jasprit Bumrah's delivery cuts through Joe Root and the India seamer goes up for the caught behind, with keeper Dhruv Jurel also seemingly keen.

India go into conference and ultimately decide not to review - a good decision, the ball clipped the top of Root's pad.

We've batted brilliantly but this is also the worst India has bowled all series by far. Strange with the conditions and a good score on the board. Did opening with Kamboj release some pressure? I'm not complaining though!

Anshul Kamboj sends one down the leg side, it clips Ollie Pope's leg and disappears for four through fine leg.

We've got just over 10 minutes until close.

Duckett is caught by Jurel off the bowling of Kamboj

The delivery that dismissed Ben Duckett pitched at the shorter end of a good length, but with the extra height of Anshul Kamboj's release point (2.1m), the highest of all Indian seamers in this series, it got big on the short stature of Duckett.

Not a particularly threatening start from Jasprit Bumrah.

I wonder if Jasprit Bumrah can just find a little spark. He's had a bit of an off day but that could all change very quickly. He hasn't quite got it right but he will know the importance of this spell.

  12. Eng 210-2published at 42 overs

Aha, here's Jasprit Bumrah for a spell before the close.

Five dots and then a scoring shot again, this time it's just a single as Ollie Pope runs a leg bye off a ball that runs to fine leg.

Today has been one of my proudest days as founder and CEO of the Zak Crawley fan club. A scintillating innings and a fierce surge of membership applications.

You'd feel that Anshul Kamboj will be more comfortable bowling to right-handers. He was visibly struggling to bowl against a left and right hander at the same time.

  15. Eng 209-2published at 41 overs

Now Joe Root faces five dot balls from Anshul Kamboj, but he denies the seamer a first maiden in Test cricket by striking the final ball of the over off his legs for four through fine leg.

England now trail by less than 150.

You'd think that they'd give Jasprit Bumrah a spell, considering there's two fresh batters out there.

  17. Eng 205-2published at 40 overs

Joe Root faces four dot balls from Ravindra Jadeja before getting a single into mid-wicket.

Ollie Pope then guides the over's final ball past slip for two.

Big half an hour now for England not to let India back into this game. Finish what has been a sublime day strong!

What a moment for the debutant that was. It just goes to show that there is jeopardy with every ball, even if it is your favourite shot.

Hopefully India can get one more tonight to just give them some hope. I think they should give Jasprit Bumrah two more tonight.

Kamboj has found a bit of rhythm all of a sudden. He's getting shape and some bounce. That wicket will give India some heart. It's an awkward passage of play until stumps for England now.
