Summary

  1. Aus 305-3published at 88 overs

Lauren Filer bowls fairly tightly in the remainder of the over, but it feels a bit like a forlorn cause at the moment.

Well England have been expensive since taking the new ball - that one was short and wide. Annabel Sutherland, great shot. That was timed so nicely.

  3. Aus 303-3published at 87.1 overs

Annabel Sutherland rides the bounce from Lauren Filer and she cuts it behind point for a boundary. Beautifully timed.

Another four. Rinse and repeat. It's been the story of Sutherland's day.

Australia are the better team. They've outplayed England in all disciplines. When England go back home, they need to look back and work out why that is.

  5. Aus 299-3published at 87 overs

If you want an insight into the standards set by Australia, Beth Mooney has just given Annabel Sutherland a bit of tongue lashing for not having the alertness to take a second run off Lauren Bell's second delivery after the throw to Amy Jones went over the England wicketkeeper's head.

Six runs off Bell's over as Sutherland and Mooney continue to find the gaps with ease.

That was a really good piece of fielding but she's in.

  7. 50 runs

Fifty for Mooneypublished at 85.5 overs

The old build 'em up, then knock 'em down, eh, Risbo?

Lauren Filer bowls the second over after the dinner break and Heather Knight has a shy at the stumps after Beth Mooney knocks it into the covers.

The deflection off the stumps allow Australia to pinch a second run and the third umpire says no hope of a run out. Mooney has a half-century.

I think the media are to blame for this performance. They have billed them as superstars and unfortunately the players have believed the hype. What's needed now is acceptance that we are a long way behind Australia, and a return to basics and hard graft.

One positive thing to come from this tour is that things can only get better, they can't get any worse.

This should, in theory, be the time when England's bowlers are able to make the most of the conditions with the pink ball at the MCG and make some inroads into this Australia batting line-up.

They are going to have to get rid of two set batters in Annabel Sutherland and Beth Mooney first, though.

Mooney picks up a boundary off the penultimate ball of Lauren Bell's first over after tea with a delightful flick through fine leg.

Right, England are out in the field. Lauren Bell has the ball in hand at the top of her mark.

Annabel Sutherland has just marked her guard again.

I really thought these two teams were going to compete in this series. Australia have just dominated, been so consistent. England have been sloppy.

  14. 'Keep England out there'published at 08:23 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland: "How did it feel? Pretty special. It's a pretty special place, especially for someone from Victoria. Stoked that I could spend a bit of time out there.

"We're in a really good position which is nice. We are a bit over a hundred ahead and I'm sure we'll keep them out there as long as we can and get as ahead as far as we can.

"I thought England bowled really well in patches, they started well. We knew the longer we are out there the more we would get so started to cash in towards the end of the session. I love batting and it's so much fun out there. I put on a good partnership with Beth Mooney and it was lots of fun.

"I've got some friends, cousins and family here and nice to have them here to enjoy it with me. It's a cool occasion for all the players and hopefully we can get the win across the line. We'll talk to the team and try to get as far ahead as we can then look to take 10 wickets."

Annabel Sutherland has just spoken to the host broadcaster in Australia after coming off the field for the dinner break. It looks like Australia want to grind England down in the remainder of the day, rather than declare.

This Australian team do the basics very well. They have solid defence and pick off the poor bowling. England on the other hand can’t even catch, never mind run about in the field. I hope this Ashes is a line in the sand moment where we wake up.

A session that pretty much sums up this Ashes series for England.

They are staring down the barrel of 16-0 unless they can produce something very special at the MCG.

The chances of that look slim as I head off to find some breakfast. Perhaps the return of Timothy Abraham will improve the tourists' fortunes...

England didn't help themselves, there's been so many missed opportunities. The fielding has been poor throughout the whole Ashes campaign and has continued here today.
