Summary

  1. Postpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 23 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 327-3

Corey Rocchiccoli finished his over with his one unbowled ball from last night from the Pavilion End.

Al Davies then brings his strike bowler Ollie Hannon-Dalby on from the City End to try and dislodge the two Toms.

After 50 overs of me typing my surprise at his reluctance to bowl fine England Lions allrounder Ed Barnard, this morning Davies gives him the first full over from the Pavilion End below me, and of course he starts well.

Only four runs off the first 3.1 overs.

  2. 'Memorable couple of days for Anderson'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 23 June

    Lancashire v Kent 218-4

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

This is his 300th first-class game, Jimmy Anderson, so it's been a pretty memorable couple of days.

India and England are competing for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and he's been named Lancashire captain for this game.

That's wicket number 1,132 of his first-class career.

DOUBLE WICKET MAIDENpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 23 June

    Ingram c Patel b Green 56 (Leicestershire v Glamorgan 305-6 becomes 305-7)

Somerset loanee Ben Green strikes with the third ball of the day, Colin Ingram playing a loose booming drive and well caught diving to his left by Rishi Patel at slip for 56.

Unbeaten Division Two leaders Leicestershire then struck again very next ball, Green having Tim van der Gugten caught behind off an inside edge first ball.

Mason Crane is solidly behind the hat-trick ball, but what a start this morning for the home side - 2-2 on bonus points now.

  4. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 23 June

    Durham v Sussex 328-9

James Coles eases Bas de Leede away for the first boundary of the morning and moves to 122 with a single off the next ball.

Gurinder Sandhu is the number 11 in alongside Coles and he's playing very solidly - Sussex aren't going to just throw it away and have a bowl.

Nottinghamshire pass 300 and moments later, Ishan Kishan reaches his half-century as he gets on top of a short ball and guides it down to third for four.

  6. Postpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 23 June

    Worcs 209 v Surrey 61-0

Ryan Patel smashes a Jacob Duffy delivery to the fence for four - he looks in fine form.

Oh, hang on, almost spoke too soon as he edges the next one....to the boundary though.

Doesn't matter how they come, it's in the book.

    Patel to 46 now.

WICKETpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 23 June

    Cook b Abbott 3 (Essex 295-9 v Hants)

There are two types of leave.

Sam Cook shoulders arms to the outstanding Kyle Abbott, who nips it back off the seam and removes off stump.

Mackenzie Jones - on debut - is the Essex number 11.

WICKETpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 23 June

    Leaning c Bohannon b Anderson 4 (Lancashire v Kent 217-4)

    Captain James Anderson strikes!

Nice straight delivery catches Jack Leaning a bit off guard and he chips up a nice easy catch for Josh Bohannon at mid-wicket.

The turning point Lancashire were looking for?

  9. dropped catch

Kishan dropped on 44published at 11:04 British Summer Time 23 June

    Notts 298-6 v Yorkshire

Matt Revis charges in for Yorkshire and he really should have the wicket of India international Ishan Kishan with the second delivery of the morning.

Kishan hits his pull shot in the air straight to Finlay Bean at midwicket, but down it goes.

    How costly might that be?

  10. Postpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 23 June

    Lancashire v Kent 217-3

If Lancashire were hoping day two would be an improvement on day one, the earliest of early signs are not good.

Ben Compton drives George Balderson's opening ball of the morning straight back down the ground for four to move on to 90no.

  11. 50 runs

50 up for Surreypublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 23 June

    Worcs 209 v Surrey 51-0

Second ball of the day and Ryan Patel gets something on it down the leg side and it flies away to the boundary.

That's a 50-run opening partnership for Surrey - it could be a long day for Worcestershire.

Patel is opening because Rory Burns kept wicket for Surrey yesterday for the first time in the Championship in 10 years.

    Warwickshire v Somerset 327-3

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Edgbaston

Blustery and overcast this morning in Birmingham, but forecast sunshine across most the rest of today, though nothing like the warm temperatures we had down south last week.

Remember we are playing with a kookaburra ball on this hybrid pitch that had that low scoring T20 double-header Friday evening.

The groundstaff couldn't put the run up covers on here last night due to the wind, but they did have the heavy hessian mat on the wicket two over from the one currently being played on. Last night's rain will drain here well enough so should be no problem.

Tom Lammonby (75*) is eyeing up a ninth first-class hundred on this second morning, Tom Abell with him on 20*.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore interestingly was having throw downs this morning from Fin Hill and Shane Burger - does he feel Somerset are going to declare, skittle Warwickshire then bat again later? Or maybe just felt left out during the bowling and fielding warm-ups and wanted something to do...

    Essex 292-8 v Hampshire

Charlie Allison made it back-to-back centuries as he steered Essex into a commanding position on the first day of their County Championship match against Hampshire at Chelmsford.

Before his 140 against Surrey last month, Allison's highest first-class score was 28. But the 20-year-old right-hander followed up his heroics at the Oval with 101 on day one.

He was the senior partner in a 107-run seventh-wicket stand with Simon Harmer that carried Essex towards 292-8 at the close after they chose to bat. Allison also put on 66 for the fifth wicket with Matt Critchley, whose 71 came from 104 balls and included nine fours and a six.

Kyle Abbott took three wickets to lift his season's tally to 35, but Hampshire let slip their morning advantage as a blustery, overcast day gave way to bright evening sunshine.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore struck his 12th first-class century as Somerset laid the platform for an imposing total against Warwickshire on day one.

Somerset chose to bat on a pitch offering bowlers no help and closed the opening day on 327-3.

Opening pair Kohler-Cadmore (104 from 138 balls) and Josh Davey (64) added 186 and Tom Lammonby followed them with an unbeaten 75.

It was a gruelling day in the field for a Warwickshire side without Chris Rushworth due to a tweaked hamstring, and including Australian spinner Cory Rocchiccioli, on his debut at the start of a short-term contract.

    Durham v Sussex 322-9

A resilient unbeaten 117 from Sussex's James Coles defied an excellent bowling performance from Durham's Bas de Leede on day one at Chester-le-Street.

Jofra Archer, playing his first red-ball game since 2021, enjoyed a fine cameo of 31.

De Leede (4-83) bowled well on his first Championship appearance of the season.

But Coles remained at the crease, frustrating the hosts, and he reached his hundred just before close, with Sussex finishing on 322-9.

  17. Notts' Slater hits 96 against Yorkshirepublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 23 June

    Notts 298-6 v Yorkshire

    Ben SlaterImage source, Rex Features

Ben Slater made 96, captain Haseeb Hameed 52 and new signing Ishan Kishan is 44 not out but struggling Yorkshire had a case for claiming honours even against County Championship leaders Nottinghamshire, who finished day one at Trent Bridge on 298-6.

Yorkshire, for whom seamer George Hill and spinner Dan Moriarty took two wickets each, are next to bottom of Division One with only one win from seven matches so far.

They had the disappointment, too, of being unable to field Pakistan batter Abdullah Shafique after a visa delay prevented his debut.

Ishan, the India wicketkeeper-batter, had no such problem as he starts a two-match stint as cover for South African Kyle Verreynne, and Nottinghamshire will hope he can yet extend his innings significantly after a number of their batters made starts but failed to build on them.

  18. Surrey start strongly against Pearspublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 23 June

    Worcs 209 v Surrey 47-0

Matthew Fisher bowling for SurreyImage source, Getty Images

Surrey's bowlers dominated day one against Worcestershire, as Matt Fisher's 3-34 helped bundle the hosts out for 209.

A middle- order collapse saw the bottom-side in Division One slip to 87-5, after both Jake Libby (28) and Henry Nicholls (31) made starts at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

Jordan Clark impressed with three wickets of his own, as Matthew Waite dug in for a resilient 68 in an otherwise underwhelming batting display from the hosts.

Dom Sibley and Ryan Patel batted through the remaining 15 overs of the day, as Surrey closed the day 47-0 and took charge of the contest.

James Anderson's first day as Lancashire interim skipper was spoiled by Ben Compton's 86no and the rain as Kent (213-3) dominated day one in Blackpool.

Asa Tribe hit a maiden first-class century with 107 for Glamorgan as they reached a solid 305-5 on a mostly slow-scoring day against unbeaten Division Two leaders Leicestershire.

Jack Morley claimed career-best figures of 6-55 as second-placed Derbyshire dominated Gloucestershire, dismissing the hosts for 187 before closing on 116-2 in reply.

Joe Cracknell scored an unbeaten 106, his maiden first-class century, while Leus du Plooy struck 66 as Middlesex staged a spirited fightback from 160-6 to 397-8 at stumps against Northamptonshire.

  20. Division Two standingspublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 23 June

Leicestershire's unbeaten start could be under threat after third-placed Glamorgan and Asa Tribe in particular shone with the bat on Sunday.

Any Foxes slip-up is likely to be pounced on by Derbyshire, who assumed a very commanding position on day one in Bristol against Gloucestershire.

Middlesex and Kent got the better of the opening exchanges against Northants and Lancashire respectively in the battles between the bottom four.
