Summary

  1. Bat dominates ball againpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 23 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 446-5

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

The bat has again dominated the (Kookaburra) ball on a fine, breezy morning at Edgbaston, with Tom Lammonby - batting elegance personified - going to his highest first-class score of 133 before holing out in search of quick runs and a fifth batting point.

Abell suffered a similar fate after a classy partnership of 132 with his fellow Tom, leaving Tom Banton and Archie Vaughan to see Somerset through to lunch, minus that fifth point but still, surely, on course for a mammoth total.

  2. Honours even in Northamptonpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 23 June

    Northants 71-1 v Middlesex 413

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

Northamptonshire's efficient finishing off of the Middlesex first innings was followed by a formidable start to their own only breached by a late lapse on the verge of lunch.

Joe Cracknell's maiden first-class century was ended by a change to around the wicket by the left-arm seamer Liam Guthrie, who in turn claimed his career best.

A slash to gully brought the Middlesex wicketkeeper's end in his first Championship appearance of the season.

The hopes of maximum batting points - which would have double Middlesex's return for the season - was ended by Lloyd Pope sliding one through Tom Helm's gate.

Vasconcelos swept Gohar to deep square just before the interval after a solid start that had seen Middlesex revert to a 7-2 field on the leg side off Higgins as the Kookaburra ball quickly brought an end to seamers bowling proper lines and lengths.

The hopes of developing 90mph bowlers with this ball in English conditions proving once again to be folly.

  5. Lunch in Blackpoolpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 23 June

    Lancs v Kent 279-5

Those two early-morning wickets from James Anderson have proven a false dawn for Lancashire.

Ben Compton remains unruffled, reaching lunch on 124no, with Harry Finch (28no) helping prevent further damage after Jack Leaning and Joey Evison both fell cheaply to stand-in skipper Anderson.

Kent have one bonus batting point after 91 overs - how many more can they attain?

  6. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 23 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 446-5

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Edgbaston

It was 444 for five, but that Tom Banton two last ball ruins it.

A 13:10 lunch today as we are making up overs after that shower causing an early lunch yesterday, 104 to be bowled do not forget.

Jacob Bethell took the last two overs from the Pavilion End, his first of the morning, to no avail, plus Rob Yates snuck in his first from the City End too. Neither part-time spinner (who should also make up the top five alongside Alex Davies, Tom Latham and Sam Hain) looking threatening.

I am now off to hear from Warwickshire's chief executive regarding the proposed schedule changes over my lunch in the Tom Dollery Lounge.

  7. Division Two updatepublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 23 June

Harry Came and Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen both end the morning session on 82no, putting on a magnificent unbeaten 147 partnership that has left Gloucestershire needing snookers in Bristol.

Derbyshire are cruising at 242-2 in reply to Glos' 187 all out and there looks only one winner there if the weather holds.

Middlesex have removed Northants opener Ricardo Vasconcelos for 34 at Wantage Road, where the hosts are 71-1 in reply to the visitors' 413.

It's been a magnificent morning for Nottinghamshire, but a torrid one for Yorkshire.

Ishan Kishan struck the ball to all parts as he compiled 87, before Dillon Pennington took up the mantle as he smacked only his second first-class 50.

Amid the carnage, Liam Patterson-White has made 65 at a steady pace.

Will a declaration come sooner rather than later?

  9. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 23 June

    Worcs 209 v Surrey 147-1

Too easy for Surrey with the only surprise being they lost Ryan Patel to a miscued pull shot for 61.

Dom Sibley's reached a third 50 of the season to go with two centuries and his skipper Rory Burns has looked good for his unbeaten 32 as the visitors added exactly 100 runs in that session.

The Worcestershire attack has toiled away gamely but have found nothing to help them with the conditions and will need some assistance from their opponents to get back into this.

  10. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 23 June

    Leicestershire 36-0 v Glamorgan 353

Leicestershire's opening pair have navigated the first period comfortably enough.

Glamorgan running the early changes, surprisingly giving their opening bat Zain ul Hassan an early two overs.

Play to resume from 1.43pm in this one.

  11. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 23 June

    Essex 296 v Hants 89-2

It's been an entertaining morning at Chelmsford as Hampshire took the two remaining Essex wickets quickly before setting about their work with the bat.

Sam Cook dismissed Ali Orr and Nick Gubbins with successive deliveries, but Fletcha Middleton has held things together with an unbeaten 58, while Tilak Verma has looked composed for his 20.

  12. Lunch at the Riversidepublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 23 June

    Durham 50-0 v Sussex 361

Jofra Archer bowling for Sussex against DurhamImage source, PA Media

Durham kept us waiting to see Jofra Archer bowl in the County Championship for the first time in four years.

James Coles and Gurinder Sandhu added 39 runs this morning with Coles finishing unbeaten on 148 having been dropped when he had made 35.

Archer's first delivery on his return brought an appeal for a catch down the leg side off Emilio Gay but it was turned down and he bowled four overs for 11 runs with two maidens.

Durham reached lunch relatively comfortably on 50-0.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Dillon Penningtonpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 23 June

    Notts 452-8 v Yorkshire

A generous round of applause ripples around Trent Bridge as Dillon Pennington moves to 50 from 38 deliveries.

He's struck seven fours and two sixes and has taken this game further away from Yorkshire.

  14. dropped catch

    Notts 450-8 v Yorkshire

Yorkshire have had a dreadful day two so far and their woes continue.

Dillon Pennington picks out Matt Revis off the bowling of Dan Moriarty and it's straight through the fielder's hands.

He's been watchful, careful and circumspect for the most part but Dom Sibley has also taken advantage of anything loose.

He has a 48th first-class 50 from 132 balls with two fours and one six.

    Warwickshire v Somerset 436-5

Well the game within the game is over now, until Warwickshire bat for 110 overs there can be no more bonus points accrued (see our Ask Me Anything post at 11:50 if you are new to cricket and any of this is confusing you!)

Neither side managed full bonus points despite decent efforts from both who arguably left it just too late this morning to accelerate with bat and creative field placements.

  17. Postpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 23 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 436-5

Alex Davies requests Che Simmons to bowl short with plenty on the leg side for Archie Vaughan, he pulls for one.

A completely different field for Tom Banton. A dot to mid off, then a leave outside off stump, Banton has decided the chase is no longer on.

Though Alex Davies goes back to the bouncer ploy for the last three balls of bonus point chasing. Do not forget Warwickshire need one more wicket for a bowling bonus point too.

  18. Postpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 23 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 434-5

Archie Vaughan struggled to score off that over, three dots then he and Tom Banton just getting three singles at the end of Ethan Bamber's 20th.

Crucially Tom Banton is now at the non-striker's end with Somerset needing 16 off this 110th over to be bowled by Che Simmons, if they are to claim the fifth batting bonus point.

Proper limited overs chase feel to this last 12 overs or so since Tom Lammonby and Tom Abell decided they were going to go for it, which had to be done on this benign pitch against the Kookaburra ball.

  19. 50 runs

50 Partnershippublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 23 June

    Worcs 209 v Surrey 137-1

A Rory Burns boundary brings up the 50 partnership with Dom Sibley.

The Surrey skipper has contributed 26 of those runs.

  20. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 23 June

    Durham 41-0 v Sussex 361

It was just the four overs to start with for Jofra Archer and Ollie Robinson replaces him as Sussex look for a breakthrough.

Archer has 0-11 with two maidens.
